[OB] How long Dalinar courted his wife
Devout Pathian replied to Devout Pathian's topic in Stormlight Archive
Thanks, this helps. I guess I assumed it was shorter than it was. I tried to pay attention to the amount of years inbetween flashbacks, but I was mostly focused on reading. -
[OB] How long Dalinar courted his wife
Devout Pathian replied to Devout Pathian's topic in Stormlight Archive
You have a point about Dalinar’s broken memories. However, I disagree that Dalinar never loved Evi. He didn’t love her when they got married, but I think he did learn to love her. He tried to find a peaceful way at the Rift, before he was betrayed, because she wanted him to. It’s a different type of love from the tradidtional type, but still love. I also think that now with how Dalinar has changed Evi and Dalinar would be perfect for one another. I love Evi much more than Navani, although I do like her and Dalinar. -
[OB] How long Dalinar courted his wife
Devout Pathian replied to Devout Pathian's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think you are right that there was some romance, but the quote says that Dalinar “persistently” pursued Evi for three years. The word persistently doesn’t fit for the story in Oathbringer even if he “courted” her (with all the ways you mentioned) for three years. -
[OB] How long Dalinar courted his wife
Devout Pathian replied to Devout Pathian's topic in Stormlight Archive
Maybe, that would be intresting. I keep wondering what type of spren each sword is. I particularly want to know Oathbringer and Maya (although I think she is one of Cultivation’s.) -
I was rereading the Way of Kings and I noticed this on page 421 where Dalinar is thinking of how Adolin changes who he courts so often: Okay, so to me this seems to contradit the story we get of Evi and Dalinar in Oathbringer. Evi and her brother come for protection and Dalinar becomes betrothed to Evi for political reasons. The feeling I got in Oathbringer was that Dalinar didn’t pursue Evi at all even when they “courted.” Is this just a mistake Sanderson made? Or is there a way to explain the differences? (Sanderson can make mistakes; he is still better than most authors.) Also on a completely different note, Moash’s eye color changes. In book one he has dark green eyes, but after he gets the shardblade in book two his eyes change to tan. Shouldn’t they just change to light green if his eyes were dark green before? I don’t know afterall Kaladin’s eyes are brown, but then he has blue eyes after summoning the Sylblade. But isn’t the blue a windrunner thing?

What was the name of the religion the lord ruler started
Devout Pathian replied to Zape's topic in Mistborn
I’m not sure if we have a name for the religion, but I plan to reread book one soon, so if I see anything I’ll let you know. -

I think Sazed probably told the people worshiping the survivor that their beliefs fit into a church and religion. That’s all I can see. He was already fascinated by the survivor religion at the end of book 1. -

Probably from the books Harmony left behind. Also people starting worshiping the survivor even before they would have called it a religion. -

I agree, although most people didn’t know much about the religion. Elend didn’t seem to know that much, but they did have doctrine. Afterall Yomen still beleived in the Lord Ruler even after Vin killed him. There is a reason that Sliversim became a religion. -
[OB] Do you think Jasnah likes Kaladin?
Devout Pathian replied to The Night Watcher's topic in Stormlight Archive
Okay, I’m glad you specified not romantically, because I don’t think Jasnah likes anyone that way, but we’ll see maybe someone will come along she’ll fall in love with, but she won’t want to. (Although if I’m honest I kinda ship Jasnah and Kaladin.) I bet Jasnah gets annoyed at Kaladin (but who doesn’t), but sure she probably likes him. She probably doesn’t care that Kaladin doesn’t smile and is broody. I bet she likes it more than Adolin being happy all the time. Also what does BROTP mean? Thanks. -
Staff Venture or Torol Sadeas
Devout Pathian replied to Lord Mistborn Bondbreaker's topic in Stormlight Archive
I concur Staff doesn’t do anything good or redeemable. He’s just nasty all the time and willing to do a whole lot more than he actually does. Also Sadeas makes me laugh a few times, which makes me like him more. (“‘I don’t where he gets it?’ Indeed.” One of Sadeas’ best lines.) Sadeas is more competent, but Staff is more evil. -
Okay I guess that makes sense the Shin might know a lot of languages. I wonder if Szeth’s training is normal for Shin.
-
I just reread the prologue to the Way of Kings. I always knew Szeth wrote the message to Dalinar, but I wonder how Szeth learned to read and write Alethi? I could see how he would know the language of the Shin and maybe some other languages, but who would have taught him Alethi? Afterall he is a man, so I don’t see most females teaching him. I don’t know, maybe it was someone who had his oathstone at one point. Has anyone else noticed this? Also any other theories?

I’m such a language nerd (I’m studying Latin and about to start Ancient Greek). I was also extermely intrested by the meaning of names. I would have to look at it more to see if I can guess at the other name meanings. I’m no linguist, but I’ll see what I can come up with.

I get what you’re saying, but Vin and Kelsier weren’t romantic at all. It was a father and daughter relationship. Kaladin might very well sacrifice himself, because it fits his character so well. Either way I feel the love triangle is going to end when either Adolin or Kaladin dies, which I don’t want either of them. I like them both, but I do ship Shallan with Adolin, which she finally opened up to him about her mulitipul personalities. Hopefully she won’t go back to hiding from him. Oh and Elend and Vin are absolutely my favorite couple I’ve come across in fiction, so I wouldn’t mind another one of them.
-
Moash, you can now go die in a hole. Although part of me still wants me to be redeemed, but the other part doens’t. I do want him and Kaladin to talk. I loved how Adolin saved Kaladin and brougth him out. As far as someone who said that no one was greiving Elhokar, that is just not true. What do you think Kaladin is doing? Yes, the other deaths also traumatized him, but Elhokar’s death was part of it. Adolin would have grieved, but if he had they would have died. Adolin can’t let himself think about his cousin’s death, because he couldn’t fight then. People are counting on Adolin to lead them. He’ll grieve, just not until later. I saw that a lot of people loved Wit and Shallan’s converstation. When Shallan started crying in Wit’s shrit, it was really tender and I didn’t know Hoid could be that compastionate. It was a beautiful scene.

So far reading hasn’t been ruined for me. I’m just preserving that experience while I continue to read Sanderson. I have quite a few more books to read left. Mistborn is the best there is. I think it’s better than Stormlight, but that’s just me. Stormlight is good, but . . . it’s not Mistborn. (I’ll be honest I just love Elend and Vin. Okay I love other things about Mistborn as well. But seriously those two are just too cute.)

Vin instinctively burning gold in the first book.

This is really interesting. I’ve noticed this part before, but never connect it to burning gold. I like the theory though.- 6 replies

How is Dahn determined? and what do they mean?
Devout Pathian replied to Stormblessed Dolphin's topic in Stormlight Archive
Wait I’m confused. Is it rare to have the right of travel or rare not to have it? Also I agree that I’ve been confused by the ranking system. -
When you get to read Stormlight for a class
Devout Pathian replied to Devout Pathian's topic in Stormlight Archive
That is a great idea. I’ll definitely do that. I also don’t think it will be strickly an LDS-based analysis, although I’m sure we’ll talk about that as well. Thanks for the suggestion of sharing it. I agree with your assessment.
