(spoilers) Just finished reading Warbreaker and loved it!
Devout Pathian replied to Matt O's topic in Warbreaker
I just finished the book as well tonight and it was great. Oathbringer spolier: I think I like Warbreaker better than Stormlight. I still think Mistborn is my favorite of Sanderson’s work that I’ve read. I still need to read the other books. Elantris is the next book I plan to read, or maybe the White Sand comic. Anyway back to Warbreaker. I’ll be honest I didn’t the twists coming, execpt I did guess that the God King didn’t know what he was suppose to do with Siri those first nights. It seemed that the priests don’t tell him much, so it make sense. Denth’s betrayal makes so much senese, but I liked him so much that it took me by surpise. He might just be my favorite villian Sanderson has written. I wasn’t a huge fan of Viviania (sorry if that’s spelled wrong), but Denth made her chapters worth reading until of course he showed his true colors, but then thankfully she became a better character. Also with the reveal of who Vasher really is. Well he and Viviania are talking about what to do and Nightblood butts in, I was like oh my he’s Peacemaker, then no he’s Claude. Or I guess just both. It was great. Oathbringer spolier: -
Welcome! I also just started Sanderson this summer and it’s been great. Have fun reading and chatting with the rest of us. It’s always good to have another person. Don’t take the cookies. I’m not entirelly sure why, but something is iffy about them, such as always getting poked by a sharp piece of metal.

Carrot (from Terry Pratchet’s Discworld) would totally be a Skybreaker. He likes to follow the law too exactly (espcially in Guards Guards!). Along the same thought process, I think Nobby and Lopen would get along great. Carrot’s squires would be all the people in the city watch. Vimes would soon swear his ideals and become a full Skybreaker thereby still out-ranking Carrot, even though we all know Carrot was better at policing first. One more thought, I would love to see Vimes screaming “Where’s my cow?” with a shardblade in his hands. That would be terrifying.

I always assumed that he knew Vin was at least a misting, but I could be wrong.

[OB] Who’s your favourite radiant?
Devout Pathian replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
Dalinar isn’t my favorite character (that would be Adolin), but after OB I love Dalinar even more than I did. Before OB I probably would have voted for Jasnah, but Dalinar now is definitely my favorite Radiant. -

[OB] Which moment in Stormlight gave you the feels?
Devout Pathian replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
That was exactly the part I was thinking of. It was so beautiful and I love Dalinar so much more. @ICanDream I agree with your “Honor is dead but I’ll see what I can do.” I also want to add the part when Kaladin is at the honorchasm. -
(OB) Most Disliked Stormlight Character
Devout Pathian replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
My thoughts also as well. I can't decide if I like or dislike Lift. It depends if she is being irritating at the time. -
poll Favorite Surges
Devout Pathian replied to Lord Mistborn Bondbreaker's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don’t really feel I can honestly vote, because I don’t know what they all do. I have some ideas for a lot of them, but we have more view of gravitation, so I’m drawn to that, but honestly I don’t think I would like flying. I would probably be (Oathbringer spoiler.) Anyway, I voted for illumination, because it’s cool, but again I don’t think it’s fair for me to say that when I still don’t know much about the others. -
poll [OB] Who is your least favorite Antagonist?
Devout Pathian replied to Lord Mistborn Bondbreaker's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree. I know with Taravagian’s curse and boon that when he is “smart” he isn’t compassionate, so I understand that and forgive him for it. However, when he is “dumb” and more compassionate he decideds to trust and follow his “smart” self, so no matter what he feels he is choosing not to be compassionate. He is evil and yes I know he is trying to save his city from Odium, but at what cost? -
Same thanks for letting me nerd about Latin with another. However, it definitely is bellum. You’re right that it needs to be in the same case, but it also has to have the same gender and number. Bellum (war) is nominative, neuter, singular, so beautiful (bellus, bella, bellum) needs to be the same, therefore bellum. It’s what makes the pun so great, since when bellus, bella, bellum (beautiful) is in the neuter it can’t be told apart from bellum (war), execpt of course in context. Anyways, thanks CJ for the conversation. It’s not too many people who are Sanderson and Latin fans.

poll [OB] Who is your least favorite Antagonist?
Devout Pathian replied to Lord Mistborn Bondbreaker's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree, Tanalan wasn’t a great person, but he was trying to fight what he saw was an opressive tyrant. Dalinar was the villian in that part, but honestly I think out of the three main characters Dalinar is my favorite, depsite that he was a horrible monster when he was younger. -
poll [OB] Who is your least favorite Antagonist?
Devout Pathian replied to Lord Mistborn Bondbreaker's topic in Stormlight Archive
When going to this poll, I assumed I would vote for Taravangian or Sadeas. However, once I saw Straff on here I had to vote for him. I hate him so much, there is nothing about him I like. At least Sadeas is sometimes funny and Wit makes fun of him. Straff there is nothing good about him. When I finished the Final Empire, I mentioned to my mom how much I hated him. My mom was then like you’ll hate him more just read book 2. I didn’t think it would be possible to dislike him even more, but my mom proved right. As far as Moash goes, I have conflicting feelings about him. He is a buttface and needs to be smacked. He makes me angry at times, but then I reread book one and found I loved him again. I like Moash. I just wish he would turn around and become good again. -
Yeah that’s one thing great about Latin is all the different ways to say similar things and how they can translate the same, but it has subtle different meanings. Ante does work, but I think I personally like prae more, but I also concidered using pro. (I’ll assume this is a typo, but mortae should be morte. It’s in the third declension. I don’t know if you’ve gotten there yet. But you got debiltate right down below, so I assume it’s just a typo.) I like virtus prae debiltate. I quite like debiltate. There was so many words I looked through yesterday that it was hard to pick which to use. I had concidered using virtus, but decided against it, because it is more about manly virtue, (battle) courage, and exellence than strength. Although virtus still works. As far as the difference between via and iter. Although they can mean the same things, I perfer iter, because via applies a road more than a journey, such as Via Giulia, which is a road in Rome. A lot of the roads would have names with via in it. One more thought about Latin, I think it would fit the Alethi very well. Their language is very different, but the war aspects of Latin would work so well. “Bellum est bellum.” (“War is beautiful.”)

I love Stormlight and Latin, so this kind of happened while I was supposed to be doing Latin homework. . . Vita prae morte. Postestas prae defectu. Iter prae destinatione. This is the one I like due to it’s words and more subtle meanings, but I also made one that is more poetic. (They can still be translated as the same.) Vita prae defunctu. Vis prae defectu. Via prae destinatione. I like my translations, but I must disclose there isn’t a word in Latin that directly means destination (at least that I was able to find), so I picked the word (destinatio, destinationis) that destination is derived directly from. Destinatio can mean determination, purpose, design, as well as others.

[OB] Unpopular Opinion: Evi's death was underwhelming
Devout Pathian replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
I didn’t think Renarin would be the champion, but I agree a lot of my theories don’t have too much evidence or none at all. Agreed that it makes reading fun. -
[OB] Unpopular Opinion: Evi's death was underwhelming
Devout Pathian replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree with this wholeheartedly. I love Evi and she did change Dalinar. One thing I find sad is that Dalinar currently is so much better for Evi than he was. Dalinar and Evi are perfect for each other now, but she’s dead, and that’s heartbreaking. I agree with @maxal. The way she described Evi’s courage is so beautiful. Another point I love Dalinar. He isn’t my favorite, but I’ve loved him since WoK. He is a monster in his flashbacks and I was so intrigued by his story. I needed to know why he changed. However, even though I continued to love him, if he had physically killed Evi with Oathbringer (or another means) I would hate him forever. He is responsible for her death and the death of everyone at the Rift. The fact that he was willing to let the people escape makes him redeemable, even if by the time he made that decision it was too late and everyone died. -

@I am Witless I love Carrot so much! He actually would probably join the Skybreakers, seeing how he follows the law too perfectly. Although I would love to see Vimes in the cosmere. However, I if I could only pick one character I would choose Haplo from the Death Gate Cycle. (or maybe Alfred, but no he would faint too much.) Haplo would handle being in another world, because he’s traveled worlds in his universe. I think him on Roshar would be funny since when he uses magic the runes on his skin glow either red or blue, so people would assume he’s a surgebinder.

[OB] Favorite Bridge Four Member?
Devout Pathian replied to Devout Pathian's topic in Stormlight Archive
You described why I love Sigzil so much better than I did. I get what you mean. There is a reason why Renarin doesn’t have any votes yet, because we are all thinking of bridgemen and Renarin does, but doesn’t really fit. However, Rock said he was Bridge Four, so Renarin is Bridge Four in my book. -

Hey everyone, so I was going to include everyone’s name who we know was or is in Bridge Four, but this site will only let me put in 30 different answers, so some people had to go, so I could include Lyn, because she is more awesome than someone who just died on one of the first bridge runs (sorry whoever you are). Also I didn’t include any of Lyn’s friends. Anyway, I’m sorry if for some reason your favorite bridgeman isn’t listed. I tried to include the best ones. I excluded Kaladin, because he is the viewpoint character, and this poll is looking for other answers. I’ve been thinking of this poll ever since I read the Bridge Four chapters in part two of OB. Also now that I’m rereading WoK, I’m noticing all the bridgemen and what they are doing, now that I actually know who they are rather than getting a random name like Moash being the one who Kaladin picks up the first day as bridge leader and takes outside. (I still can’t decide if I love Moash or hate him.) I love Bridge Four, and although it’s a hard choice, I picked Sigzil as my favorite. I love that he is orderly and tries to mesure the Windrunner’s power. As I’ve been rereading WoK, he is one who pushes against Kaladin in the beginning. He also tried to kill someone (I got to know this story). One last cool thing about him is that Hoid’s his master and he is a worldsinger. I love when he tells people what other cultures are like. I’m intrested in seeing who people like and why? I love bridge four and find many of them awesome, so what are your thoughts?
-
No, I did as well. But then again I also find Lopen sometimes too much. I still like him, but at times . . . Anyway, as far as the best spren I voted for Pattern, because on his own he is just so awesome. Even without Shallan, Pattern would be great. I love Syl as well, but she and Kaladin work really well together. On their own they wouldn’t be as awesome, Syl included, so Pattern wins best spren. I also almost voted for Maya, but I don’t know her as much as I assume we are going to in the end. I love how she saved Adolin a few times even though she is “dead.”

[OB] How long Dalinar courted his wife
Devout Pathian replied to Devout Pathian's topic in Stormlight Archive
Sweet, thanks I’ll use that too.
