Not weird Cosmere jargon, but it is a weird science unit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barn_(unit)

Revival? You do realize that was planned from the start? On your next Hero of Ages reread, keep Secret History ready next to it. There's some things that can't be explained without it.

From Mistborn we know there is quite the difference between what Dalinar can do and what a Shard can do. Additionally, the intent is inherent in the power. I would think that, if you use enough power, you will have to adhere to it's intent simply because you can't force it anymore (kind of like you can force a small stream with your hands but can't force a river and it'll just tug you along instead).

That's similar to saying investiture is magic. Yes, it's true, but the term encompasses a much wider idea throughout speculative fiction, whereas fabrials (and investiture) are specific to the Cosmere and bound to it's rules.

I actually finished my reread of Mistborn Era 1 last week, and though I of course remembered the story I didn't really remember any of the details. All I can say is that it was amazing and extremely well-thought out, to a degree far beyond what I remembered. Great cast, great worldbuilding, great story, and there's always another secret. (I actually read Hero of Ages in under 48 hours because it drew me in so much. A story where I already knew how it ended, mind you)

I'm sorry, my thoughts were so disjointed I forgot to explain what I found odd about it: Assuming the spike in the back has as only purpose to keep the Inquisitor together, those 8 other spikes can together only grant 8 powers, so how do Inquisitors have healing powers? Either they are missing powers of the standard Mistborn set of the 8 basic metals, or they're missing that one.
-
I know, but I'd assumed that pewter could only store Feruchemical tin, pewter, iron and steel; that's what "stores physical Feruchemical powers" implies to me. And another thing I just noticed (sorry for adding that to a question): In chapter 5 of HoA Vin mentions that a 'standard' Inquisitor has 9 spikes: 5 steel (eyes, back, two in the ribs) and 4 bronze (also through the ribs). In that chapter, they're surprised to find that the Inquisitor she and Elend killed has a 10th, pewter spike through the heart (for the record, this spike seems to have granted him feruchemical steel, as he was moving extremely fast for a moment).
-
One of the epigraphs of Hero of Ages (which are from the Words of Founding) has this passage (chapter 36 if people want to look it up): "For example, all of the original Inquisitors were given a pewter spike, which - after first being pounded through the body of a Feruchemist - gave the Inquisitor the ability to store up healing power." According to the Coppermind, however, pewter stores Feruchemical Physical powers, while healing is related to gold, which is in another quadrant. So is this a mistake or am I missing something myself?

Well, if Khriss and Brandon disagree it's pretty easy for me. Khriss is an in-universe scholar who doesn't know everything but is an expert in her field (paraphrasing from Brandon) while Brandon is the author who created the universe and never lies. So if Khriss says "there's Surgebinding, Voidbinding, something else, oh and there's also these Fabrials" and Brandon says "there's three magic systems, Surgebinding, Voidbinding and Fabrials" (paraphrased of course), then I'm going with Brandon.
-
There is one thing you can keep in mind. Brandon may misdirect and obfuscate, but he does not lie. At worst he changes his mind. If he straight up says he considers Fabrials a separate magic system, it's safe to assume that it is. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if Fabrials are only part of the magic system. Perhaps there's a bigger underlying principle that will be discovered eventually, while currently only the specific use of the Fabrials is known.

Didn't it appear next to him, showing he was most certainly dead? I'd assume it ended up in the hands of the Fused.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Leyrann replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor you mean? But... but... Shardplate wasn't invented. You're clearly not a true Sanderfan! They just haven't recognized the awesomeness that is the Cosmere yet. Keep at it, and one day you will convert them. -
Do we know what Aon the name Alonoe is related to? Neither Alo, Ono nor Noe is mentioned in the list on the coppermind.

[OB] Shards averse to interacting with people?
Leyrann replied to Wandering Investor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's related to the powers of Ruin and Preservation creating Scadrial, I believe. -
I don't think Rayse was supposed to be at the Shattering

I want Brandon to write a non-canon short story about this. -
He will be a main character, to me that sounds like he's going to be a (even if maybe not the) protagonist. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/39-sandersonchat-twitter-qa-with-audiblecom/#e436

It would tear my soul apart if the main characters from different books (the immortal ones, at least) would end up fighting one another in the end. Then again, it would probably make for a very good story.

Copying my post from discord, as I believe many people aren't often online on discord (you really should be though! We can do much more with discord than we can with a single forum thread) Considering no one is actively opposed to it, I will soon officially remove the Hall from the Alleyverse, meaning people's characters in the Hall are no longer linked to their roleplaying characters. Instead, I'll add a progression system where everyone starts at the First Ideal and can progress through the Ideals over time. I intend for this to be a long-term system where it can take more than a year to reach the final Ideal while active, but I am looking for ideas on how to do this system. The first option is more roleplay heavy, where you are required to do certain things during roleplay in order to advance to the point where you can say the next ideal. The second option is less roleplay heavy, instead it has a point-based system where you can earn points for various things, for example faction related tasks, and where higher ranking members might hand out points for things they like or because you did something for them (up to a cap). In this system, earning a certain amount of points will allow you to advance to the next ideal. If you have any ideas regarding this, throw them into #hall-of-the-surges-discussion or some other place. Additionally, everyone will get a chance to change to a new Order, but after that has been chosen people are expected to stick to it (pun intended). If the first, roleplay heavy system goes through, non-canon Orders will also be removed to make it easier to define requirements to advance. Edit: Also, @Nerd3.14159265358979, how do you feel about joining TUBA to remain part of the Alleyverse? Or, alternatively, you can leave the Alleyverse. Not sure how active you are/want to be in the Alleyverse...

[OB] King's Drop breaks the First Law of Thermodynamics?
Leyrann replied to KalaDANG's topic in Stormlight Archive
Let's be real though, the "Spiritual Realm leaking out" is really just a way to more-or-less scientifically (in cosmere terms) justify the gem shining, which is there because of the rule of cool. -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Leyrann replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you get super happy upon realizing one of your favorite songs is associated with your first Stormlight Archive read in your mind because you got to know the song around that time. -
Actually I think we can cross off quite a few of them. Very unlikely, plus we know that he's been working on bringing Dalinar to his side. Honor has been dead for quite some time. ...Kraken? Anyway, we know that a number of people have recieved the visions over time. In fact, considering Sunmaker aimed to unify Roshar, he may have had the visions as well, and he would probably have been as good a candidate for Odium as Gavilar or Dalinar in this case. This has been happening continuously, but has been stifled by the Skybreakers. Always possible. Likely not, as Hoid comments Odium doesn't know where he is (or he'd flatten Kholinar for the chance to kill Hoid). Another possibility. Seems unlikely but possible to me. Let me add I) It just took this long to get all the pieces to line up.

Most popular theory is actually that the gods aren't the Shards, but rather the large spren, namely the Stormfather, the Nightwatcher and the Sibling. The most consensus for what those spren belong to is actually Stormfather with wind, Nightwatcher with spren and Sibling with stone. Also, spren don't feed off of people; they're sapient Investiture and exist by themselves, though their ideas are shaped by people. It does seem like the large spren are less affected by this however. As for the Shard attached to the Sibling, there's either no correlation between Shards and large spren, or it's Odium, as we know from Brandon there hasn't been a fourth Shard involved on Roshar. Also Rushu is suspected to be one of the Heralds, I believe Battab (?).
