So I started with Way of Kings. Did I spoil anything?
Eluvianii replied to AlexC's topic in General Brandon Discussion
There's no wrong reading order since all his series are their own thing to some degree. But, if what you want is to see how Brandon's Universe, the Cosmere, is slowly being revealed, then I would recommend publication order, since you'll get to see how at first there's nothing but with time, references to other books start appearing and they get bigger with each series. Something like: -Elantris -Mistborn Era 1 -Warbreaker -Mistborn Era 2 -The Stormlight Archive with the novellas and short stories wherever you want to put them save some exceptions like Edgedancer which you have to read after Words of Radiance for example. I'm no expert though, and I myself haven't read everything so maybe someone with more experience can give you a better answer. And welcome to the Shard! I hope you enjoy your stay -
Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)
Eluvianii replied to Zurvanight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Sorry, I probably made that sound more complicated than it is, so here's a summary. If you only bought Cold Steel, you're safe, the first three games are localized, all of them available on ps4 and pc. Trails in the Sky is localized too, all three games, available on psp/psvita and pc. Zero and Ao are not localized but there are fan-translations playable on psp/psvita and pc. Basically, nearly all of them can be played in english, but as of now, only three of them on ps4. -

Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)
Eluvianii replied to Zurvanight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
It does come out in April but only in Japan. This is not only a niche series but a storming monster text-wise, so it's had a pretty rough way into the west, meaning among other things that the second arc (the Crossbell arc) never got a localization and it's still not confirmed that it will. Last I remember hearing is that the company currently localizing the games "is aware of the Crossbell problem" but nothing since then. Considering there are three games that haven't been localized it's understandable they would have trouble aproaching the issue. Right now there are fan translations available which are pretty good but you would need, again, a pc or a psp/vita. Actually, all of the first 5 games can be played on psp/vita so there's that. Sorry, I know this isn't very helpful but as I said, the story of this series coming to the west is really rough (seriously, just reading the localization process for the second game is kind of depressing), and the pc is the place that got out winning. -
Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)
Eluvianii replied to Zurvanight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Well, this is where it gets complicated, since CS at some point will start assuming you've already played the Crossbell arc, to the point where iirc, Cold Steel gives closure to both Erebonia and Crossbell arcs. So it comes down to if you can enjoy the story even though you've missed more than half of it (because it will assume you've already played Sky too). If you do enjoy it regardless and want to go back (I don't really recommend doing things in that order but your situation seems to be a little complicated regarding available platfoms), the biggest changes are graphics and a few quality of life stuff, and the combat system being somewhat more complex. But the story and characters are just as good. -
What I gather from this, since you mention stuff like Twilight, is that you and I have different definitions for abusive relationships and bad romance stories so we probably should leave it in an "agree to disagree". As for stuff related to the thread, i just remembered when I read Mockingjay and people started dropping like flies and then I got to that scene where they're tending the wounded if I recall correctly and then I don't know, at the time that left me pretty, well, bad. I probably hadn't seen a scene quite like that in a book before so it was just so new, and shocking, and incredibly sad.

Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)
Eluvianii replied to Zurvanight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Argh! I'm so impatient to know, well, everything. I actually gave up on playing Sen I for now, playing it on the pc I have is just too demanding for something that's supposed to be relaxing, I didn't even talk to NPCs like a decent Kiseki fan because I didn't want to risk a single loading screen more than necessary. I just got a small job so I'll try and get a ps4 with those versions hopefully during summer. And I hope they localize the ps4 versions for Crossbell, it might sound silly, but even if the arc wasn't as good as it is, it would be worth a replay in my book just to see the new dialog by the added NPCs. I agree that you should probably get that for pc if you can, the game would run on a toaster so virtually anything would be fine, and they go on sale pretty often. Besides, there's some nice mods for the pc version, I think some of them kind of don't work anymore, but at least the one for the Evolution soundtrack I know still works and it's pretty awesome. -
Wow, you're the first person I see getting that impression from the book. The way I see it, both characters are pretty bad in the beginning, which is why the story works as a comedy. But they slowly get better.
-
I would say it's probably worth it, but I don't have the money, nor a shelf that big.
-
I hope you're right, and about this. I don't think Moash is loathsome, but this dogma perfectly sums up Brandon's abilty to write. Wise words indeed.
-
The backlash the book will most likely receive. Seeing what everyone wants it's clear most of it contradicts what other people want. Some want Maya to be revived, some don't. Some want Moash to be redeemed, some want him to die. Some want Shadolin to work, some want Shalladin to be given a second chance. So no matter what happens, half the community won't like it.

Where Do You Get Your Books for Cheap/Free?
Eluvianii replied to Snakenaps's topic in Entertainment Discussion
There's a library (of sorts) where I live that from time to time just puts a table with books for you to take home, I'm not even sure where they come from, I should ask. They're mainly technical books and novels in english (in a spanish-speaking city, books in english don't have a lot of demand) so I have quite a few novels I haven't even touched yet, but it's kind of addictive to take home books I can buy with pocket change or with no change at all. -
Things got bad in a matter of seconds. Edwin stepped aside holding the straps of his backpack. Storms, how could I forget? He ran, looking in every direction. How would they hide something like this? Even if there was something that prevented normal people from noticing, this was a normal neighborhood, full of people, that could be destroyed in the next ten minutes. This needed to end quickly. He reached a tree, several houses away, and hid his backpack among the branches. Hopefully it would be safe there. Now, he needed to find a way to help. He couldn't fight without a weapon -he could barely fight with one- and he was just a step above useless with his surges, but they were all he had. Edwin ran towards the house, the fight already obvious from afar, and saw two new figures. Were those Cassie and Draug? That helped a lot, maybe they would get out of this alive and without destroying the street after all. Still, he couldn't just stand doing nothing, but he couldn't fight either, so he resorted to the only trick he knew and started making holes and sinking feet, hoping to make the fight even a little bit easier for his friends.

Lewis stared at Wita for a moment, that had been a strange change in her behavior. But no time to think about that, there was an obstacle already. "It would probably be safer to take them out, better now that they're alone than later when they rush in as reinforcements."

Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)
Eluvianii replied to Zurvanight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Hey, as long as you try it, any time is perfect. Just bear in mind though, that 1-3 are just a small part of something way bigger -
379. If you need to carry out any kind of plan/operation, make sure you're working only with impartial people, and that anyone who's not directly related to the plan is at least ten miles away from the zone where you'll be working. Ignore this advice and either someone in your team will ruin the plan or that one person you left waiting in the car will suddenly appear at a critical moment, ruining all the progress and causing someone's death/the bad guy to escape/get stronger, along with a six-month time-skip.

Who LOVES The Legend of Zelda!
Eluvianii replied to Ironwill2112's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Who doesn't love Zelda would be a better question. My personal favorite is Twilight Princess. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that it was the first one I finished but still, it's pure magic even to this day. Plus, it has my favorite boss battles, maybe not too hard, but all of them absolutely epic. Skyward Sword would be a close second but that might change as I keep playing more games, I've been a fan for years but still relatively new when it comes to finished games. -

Weird, something must have changed in the 3ds version since I don't remember ever getting so little experience. And in the first three bosses I've barely grinded. Quality of Life improvements I guess. -

A few hours into Dragon Quest VIII and I can't believe I didn't start on this series before. Games like this one make me realize that hundreds of twists and turns are not a requirement for a great story. It's just so relaxing to go through. -
Edwin blinked, trying to understand what the woman was talking about, and even then he really didn't. Jenna? As in, the substitute teacher? What did she have to do with anything? "What do you mean? she's just our art teacher." Unless maybe... She had made some weird questions and comments. "Do you mean she is..." a Radiant? @Sorana @Ookla the Maybe-Existent @Wyndlerunner

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Eluvianii replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted. A fleet appears behind you and starts following you, and in their loyalty they're always behind you, whether you're trying to conquer the galaxy or using the bathroom, they will be there. I wish to recover twice the normal amount of energy per hour while sleeping. -
She knew they were coming. She wanted them to go inside. They had fallen into a perfect trap. If they left they would be open to an attack on the way back, or even the house now that there was no secret. If they refused to enter the civilians in the surroundings would be in danger, just as she said. And if they went in... Edwin didn't want to think about what would happen then but, what option did they have? "I, don't think we have a choice." he said after hearing James and took a step forward. @Wyndlerunner @Sorana @Ookla the Maybe-Existent

The reason plants on Roshar hide all the time is because they're afraid whoever is coming is Taln. Dalinar would give his pain to Taln. Taln gives blessings and curses to the Nightwatcher. Taln didn't like the tenth pancake, so he willed it out of existence.
