  1. It was hard to see outside, not because of a lack of light but because there was so much movement, you couldn't set eyes on anything for more than a second before something else took its place. Edwin swung his weapon at a Voidbringer coming at him. He aimed for his upper half but only cut through his leg slightly, making the Voidbringer fall and Edwin with him a few meters apart. The thing was heavy and hard to control. Games make this look easier. He didn't have time to complain more because the Voidbringer got back up and tried to run towards him, limping but gaining speed. Edwin turned the naginata around and with an effort swung at a wide arc in front of him that caught the Voidbringer in his run, making him fall again. Edwin got up slowly and walked to the figure on the ground. The man wasn't moving, but with Light he would be up in no time. Instead he slammed the blade into the man's heart, the Voidbringer's heart, and started running, looking for the next one. It was the first time he killed somebody, but strangely he didn't feel as terrible as he thought. Maybe it was because he knew the redeyes wouldn't have hesitated to kill him. Either way, it was for the better, as that one wouldn't be the last.
  2. This was, just a standard meeting between power figures. The lack of formality was even more astounding, and they were just fighting. It was more familiar than Ryan expected to see in such a different world. Of course, the insults were likely just a greeting, the serious stuff would probably be discussed through that weird communication of theirs so only they would listen. A shame.
  3. Edwin went to the training hall, he needed a weapon, this time he knew they would need every bit of help available. There wasn't time to be picky but he instantly laid eyes on a naginata, or something that looked like one. The weapon wasn't his specialty --he didn't have one to begin with-- but with the chaos outside, anything was better than his bare hands. Even in the current situation he couldn't supress a grin. He had a soft spot for that thing, even if he barely knew how to use it. He climbed back upstairs and looked at the pandemonium outside. They were attacking the housem their home. They couldn't allow themselves to just knock them out and run somewhere else. They would have to kill this time, each and every one of them. He took a step forward and joined the others.
  4. Edwin had been watching for a while now, it was already dark. There was plenty of light around the house but it dissipated into darkness at a distance, it gave a strange effect, like if the house was the only thing in the world. That just made the red dots stand out even more. There weren't just three pairs like a while ago, he stopped counting at ten, and those were only the ones he could see coming from the front, there were probably more preparing for an ambush around the house. "Guys," he called, without getting his eyes off the walking figures. "I think those three were just the beginning."
  5. Edwin had stopped to just turn back and see. Getting a weapon? What was the point? It was all over in seconds. They were a great team and all of them miles ahead of him. The time he had been on the house was still relatively short, but in that time barely anything had happened. It seemed like he had all the time in the world to become a good Radiant, but these last few days had turned those expectations upside down. It was still a mistery to him why he had become a Radiant. From what he knew, Radiants were people with bad memories. Those who had seen things they want to forget, the kind of thing that breaks you, those were the people who encountered spren. The others in the house, they didn't seem to be any different. He didn't ask, he didn't have the right but, sometimes, the look on their faces was enough to know. Life had been harsh for them, and it had given them a chance to make things better, for them and for the rest of the world. After all, who was better suited to fight for a better life than those who knew how bad it could be? Except he didn't. Life wasn't a bad memory for him, he had lost people close to him, true, but no more than anyone else, he was a lucky person. And that meant he didn't have the right to be here. He knew that but even so, he didn't want to give up, not in the beginning and even less now that he knew what they were fighting against and not now that he knew these people who were willing to risk their lives for those of others. He wanted to catch up and be able to stand by their side, fight with them, he wanted to earn that right. But they were just so fast. Edwin walked up to the others, the fight was over but they had been hurt and one of the Voidbringers was still alive, not to mention there could be more, somewhere, hiding. Things could get bad again any second. Even so, they seemed to have everything under control, how did they do it? He was about to offer help but, with what? They had everything sorted out already. Instead he just walked outside and stood there, so in case there were more, at least he would be able to alert the others. It was a really small step, but still better than sitting around, watching the others work.
  6. Edwin looked back at the three figures. They were definetely coming to the house and those red eyes were unmistakable. He ran back inside, his mind still trying to process what was going on. Of course they would attack again, last night they had failed but that didn't mean they had given up. He felt terrible for being worried about the world finding out, he had been so clouded by that that he had forgotten the original problem. The real problem. Now they had to fight again. What little Cohesion he could use wouldn't do much, he needed a weapon. They had weapons in the house, for now his only option was to get one, even if it meant losing time.
  7. "Looking for fresh air, I guess. Chances are we'll be in there until morning so it's now or never." he paused for a moment before asking. "Will you be alright here? It looks nice now but weird stuff it's been known to happen in the house. You know, Voidbringers, you've probably heard about them."
  8. "Yeah, you're Nym, right? If you don't mind me asking, why are you here? The fun is inside."
  9. Edwin sighed when Jace walked away to Cassie. Seriously? It wasn't formal? Now that he noticed, Jace and Ax were the only ones wearing formal clothes. Well, nothing to do about it now, at least he wasn't in full suit. He took a taco and walked outside, the music followed him until it sounded muffled and it occured to him that they maybe should have set up some tables outside, it was a party after all and it could get a bit crampy inside. Besides, it was late, a party outside would mean stars, it felt fitting for a wedding. Maybe they would do something later. For now, no one was there save for the new girl, Nym if he recalled correctly, she was stretching. When she arrived things had went pretty fast and there had been only a quick introduction. Nervousness maybe? It couldn't be easy to just pop in the middle of so much new people. And she was young, he wondered if she would have to fight too. It wasn't a nice thought. "Hi." he said to announce his presence.
  10. Ryan ducked behind a chair, not really sure why they had to. Until the room changed. What in the name of Aidios? It was like they were in another place, were they? No, the chair was still there, likely everything else was too. There was more people in the room, or were they illusions too? Their hosts joined two figures at the center, a meeting of some kind then. It was obvious then that he had to listen. He wasn't sure he entirely trusted these people yet, that meant this probably was a good moment to get some information about them besides what they had told them. And so he listened.
  11. A week. That wasn't so bad, he could work with a week. He repeated it quietly. He knew he was ignoring what John said after that, it was more of a hopeful estimate but he needed something to cling on to. "Right." he said. "Sorry about... I didn't mean to explode like that but I needed to know." Some bracer he was. Decision making and level headedness were supposed to be his strong points, and now he had been on the verge of a panic attack. It wasn't right. Even after coming back, he couldn't allow himself to stay like this. It had taken an extreme situation for him to see it but he really wasn't ready for this job. Those guys on Liberl were younger than him but he was sure they wouldn't even flinch in this situation. I can't go back like this. I have the time so might as well use it. Use it to become worthy of those he admired. It was the only thing there was to do, thinking about it. And for now that meant... what exactly? "Sooo, now what?"
  12. "Wait, it was? But you are..." he didn't finish. No need to tell them he had been nervous about dressing right. "No matter. Well, I hope you like the party, everyone's been working really hard on it."
  13. Twin flied back to Edwin's room where he was waiting. He had run upstairs when there was noise by the door since he still needed to know about a little detail. "They have formal clothes." Just as he had thought. It was a wedding after all, what else could be expected? Of course, wearing a suit was... not again, please, it's only been one day. Besides, it was dirty. Happy with that conclusion he pulled out one of his formal shirts, deep blue. It needed ironing but it would do. With that, his jeans and a pair of black shoes he looked semi-formal. He went downstairs and looked for them. They were by the food. "Hey guys, congrats!"
  14. Alright, that might work, and maybe I should start avoiding sweet things too Both of them things I would hate to do... I'm a disgrace for my culture.
  15. When you realize girls can subtly show they're Sanderfans on public by wearing a glove, so you start looking for something that works for guys. Edit: Also, when you just got Call to Adventure and the main reason is that Brandon recommended it, and are now anxiously waiting for the Stormlight expansion.
  16. Don't ask why but I'm picturing something like that abyssal fish that attracts prey with a glowy thing that hangs from its head. Imagine that but instead of a glowy thing it's the shape-shifting thing. I really don't know why but it's the first thing I thought of when I read the post.
  17. "Wait." Ryan started. "What does that mean for us? You want to know what's so special about us and we want to know too but it doesn't end there, right? You won't make your tests, open a portal to our worlds and be done with it, right? Something comes after that. So, what comes after that? Forget about the universe and metaphysics for a moment and answer me something simple. How long will we be in this world? I know what you'll say, you don't know but just an estimate is enough. How big is this and how long will it take? What chances do I have of seeing my friends and family again in a day or two?"
  18. "Me too, I think" Lewis shouted. He walked to where they had started before going on. "Our man had some weird friends, not the good kind but maybe the only kind he could find." The good kind? Did he even remember what that meant? Yeah. He did. It was the kind he had in the past. He had left them precisely because he had become the bad kind. Stop it. You have to focus. He shook his head sending away those thoughts, it wasn't the time. "What about you guys?" he asked a bit loudly, waiting for the others to come back.
  19. After the table was set, Edwin started to relax. He didn't know how he had managed to get it on time (especially with all the running around between shops) but he had. Ax and Jace weren't there yet but they probably wouldn't be long now. As he was thinking this, he passed the front door and found it open. There was a girl standing there, she looked really young. Was she a Radiant? He thought the flood of new people was over after the dream incident but apparently that wasn't the case. "Hello?" he said to her. "Umm, who's the new face?" he then added turning to Cassie. There was already a crowd forming but she was the closest to the door so he guessed she was the one who had seen her first.
  20. Alright, similarities then. "I'm Ryan, a human." he felt weird making that clarification, but went on. "I'm a bracer, my job is to help mantain peace without intervening with the government. Most of the time we only do errands or exterminate small monsters, really. I don't really have magic, not in the way you guys do. I have this orbment which is attuned to me and allows me to do magic but there isn't any energy actually flowing through me." Was there something else? "Also I'm twenty one, though I don't know if that means anything if you are from different worlds."
  21. "Yeah, thanks." he said, putting the bags on the floor for a moment. They weren't exactly heavy but it was an interesting experience to carry them around the city. "It hasn't started yet, has it?"
