Is Kaladin made in part of tanavastium?
Eluvianii replied to Ripheus23's topic in Stormlight Archive
And then we'll find that it was actually Kaladin who chose Syl to be his Knight. -
Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)

I should do the same at some point. I finished the entire arc on my phone and let me tell you, it's terrible when you have sweaty hands. Also, battery becomes kind of a big deal when you know the last session is going to be two hours long at the shortest. -

Ohh, those were great, the one thing that bothered me though, is that in Zero they say "As expected" enough times that it has become a personal meme of mine. Maybe the Geofront one will fix it. Last I checked it was at 90% I believe? -

Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)
Eluvianii replied to Zurvanight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Okay, here it goes: Spoilered because this may become a novel in and of itself and because. You know. Spoilers I guess. Liberl Radiant Orders: The list right now is kind of a mess, incomplete and with no particular order. I will be updating it as I have time to (because right now I'm running out of brain processing energy) and as I replay the arc to get a better grasp of certain characters, because when I said all of Liberl I meant ALL of Liberl. -
Then maybe a year before choosing and a year after? They're at war so they'd probably want to keep it short.
-
I guess, but since it has been shown that people become squires after already some time with a Radiant, I figured it needed to be decided with plenty of time. I could be wrong though, do we know how much time has passed since the start of the series?

Edwins' eyes opened like plates. "Wait, did you say a spren? Any spren?" he said and as if she had read his thoughts, Twin hurried to the center of the kitchen now visible to everyone, and looked directly in Cassie's direction.

They were going to the house of the dead man. It didn't really concern him anymore. It was true that he had got curious but actually investigating at another location implied more commitment than he was planning. But his curiosity didn't go away, and he had already almost died tonight, might as well find out why. "I'll go." Then there was the problem of getting there. There were a few ideas, some better than others, some that bordered on dangerous. "I have a car, but you can't complain about my music taste if you're gonna ride with me." said one of them finally. "I vote for that one." said Lewis. Who cared about what kind of music he listened to as long as they got to the place?

Lewis followed when the girl started walking. That looked slightly dangerous, it would be ironic if, having managed to come out of the fight unharmed, she fell and hurt herself. He kept an eye open just in case. "What's your name? It seems impolite not to ask, since you helped us out and all. Mine's Kira." she asked. "I'm Lewis." he answered and kept walking, it was strange somehow, having nothing to say. Uncomfortable. Had silences always been this heavy? He decided to break it and try to get the full picture while he was at it. "Did you know him?" he asked, gesturing towards the man lying on the floor.

Well, judging by the list you put below, you may be right that we disagree less than it sounded like, I just went for the first impression. In my case I plan to (still studying so haven't really started yet) weave my life project around video games, music and literature because the first comes with the other two the way I see it. A few years ago I would have said that it's good because it lets you escape from reality. Now I believe it's good because you can learn from it to improve your own reality. It doesn't matter how irreal something may be, it has some base on the real world so there's always something you can get out from it. Also I'd like to apologize for using the word 'elitism', it was the best I could think of at the time but I think 'picky' would fit better for what I meant. And I'll stop here, I wanted to reply so here it is but this thread has been derailed enough.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When your university introduces a virtual library with over 100,000 books and the first thing you do is look for Sanderson books. (There weren't any. Figures) -

Oh no, I didn't mean it like that. The decision actually came partly because I didn't want to stop enjoying simple stories, and it has worked because I do, quite a bit (sometimes more so than I would be proud to admit). But yeah, the point was that I don't need too much persuasion to get into something and honestly enjoy it. Where the standards would come into play is whether or not that something will acompany me through the years. I can watch, say, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and enjoy it, knowing that it won't have any effect on me save for making me laugh for a couple hours (it also got me into the original book so that's a plus but I digress). On the other hand, there's The Neverending Story for example. It's the first fantasy book I read apart from Harry Potter so it was the first step on making me aware of the genre. It's also a book that, although intended for children, always has something I didn't find on my last read every time I reread it. It's a book I know will follow me to my grave. I fully enjoy both of the aforementioned stories, the difference is that one changed my life and the other didn't. It's not that I watch/read whatever because I've given up on finding good things, that would be ridiculous. Just out of curiosity, which art forms do you mean? We obviously disagree quite a bit but it would be interesting to see how similar our interests are.

"Yeah, lets." said Lewis, a bit distracted. Such a kind, normal conversation. He didn't remember the last time he had talked to someone about anything that wasn't business. Whether he was looking for a job, food or a room, it was always business.

Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)
Eluvianii replied to Zurvanight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I don't have a ps3, ps4, ps vita or ps tv. I'm saving up for a ps4 though. It would be impossible to have one before Sen III comes out (and I haven't even got to Sen II so it doesn't really matter), but I plan to have everything ready before Sen IV. I'll get the opportunity then. -
Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)
Eluvianii replied to Zurvanight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Oh Eidos, as someone who's in chapter 6 of Sen I, I feel threatened. I actually discovered them in a far more ordinary way. I was looking for rpgs for PSP and this always came up. Though like two years passed before I played them, the name and cover just didn't seem like something worth playing. Oh the irony. The character development is great, but I think something that tends to be overlooked is the way it tells stories. They get you used to a routine both gameplay and story wise so you never expect anything too big to happen, and then suddenly everything explodes. That's some use of the status quo I had never seen before. I remember liking FC just like any other game until the ending of chapter 3. From that point onwards it started scalating quickly from a pretty good game to the freaking best I had played, and that was before I knew everything that was hiding behind. I haven't played Tokyo Xanadu (my pc doesn't run it), or any Ys game for that matter. I played VII for a while on PSP but stopped for reasons I can't remember, and now my PSP is dead so... I am planning on playing them starting with Oath in Felghana when I have the opportunity. As for the Gargharv trilogy, wasn't Kondo a big fan of them from before being director? He might come back to them sometime. I do think the voice acting is pretty good but there are some voices I don't like (Millium for example) and I don't know if I'll be able to like the voices when the Liberl and Crossbell parties arrive. Good thing it'll be dual audio iirc. And you guys have suddenly created a need in mind to sort all of Liberl into Radiant orders. -
Trails of Cold Steel (and the Kiseki series in general)
Eluvianii replied to Zurvanight's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Ooh, Kiseki. At last a thread where I can let the fanboy inside me out for what is going to be my favorite series until the day I die. Kiseki fans are really hard to find so I'm glad there are some people here who like both the Cosmere and Kiseki. -
I was the exact opposite of this. When I was a teenager I only wanted to watch/read/play masterpieces (whether or not I was good at judging what is a masterpiece and what is not is a completely different matter) and turned down things like comedies simply because they were comedies. With time I realized this made me enjoy things way less, like when you start having too high standards they just keep going up and suddenly almost nothing is good enough and you get annoyed all the time because you can't see how people could like something like that. In the end I'm just happier accepting each story for what it is but that's only my own experience.

Edgedancer. He had never heard of that. "I just heard noise over here and got curious, then the guy attacked me." he grimaced remembering the stabbing. "Besides, I didn't last two minutes, you guys seem to have fared far better over here."

"I believe we're going into this blindly. We know the problem but we're still looking for the solution. That means making mistakes, lots of them. True, innocents got involved last night, but that just means we now know we have to be more careful, be prepared every time we go out, look for ways to take the fight away from other people. True, we don't know if they can be saved, but that just means now we can focus on looking for a way, it's a step forward. Making mistakes isn't wrong in an of itself, it's the only way to eventualy reach a satisfying conclusion. Of course, we're in a bigger problem than most people, and that means we have to be brave enough to make bigger mistakes and face them in order to improve."

I don't see Star Wars as that big of a thing. I like them as entertaining movies about spaceships and magic I can watch on a weekend just for fun. Therefore, I like all of them and can see past their issues since I'm not expecting a life-changing experience from them (I don't even know why people do expect that in the first place.). On the same note, I don't get all the complaints about bad writing in Doctor Who. I had them too, at first, when I thought the series had a consistent overarching plot. Now I see it as just adventure for the sake of adventure and it doesn't need to be more than that, really. Still one of my favorite shows of all time. And still on that note, just in general, I think we should learn to enjoy "bad" stories. Like, people are too elitist about what they seek in a story. I can finish virtually any story as long as I mildly like one or two of the main characters, sometimes I just want to distract myself for a while. If among all of those a masterpiece comes out, I'll certainly appreciate it but it isn't a requirement to enjoy something.
