It's towards, I like the idea of a rechargingspren I'm not sure about the tiredness thing, the only thing I can find that spren can affect is sticking things together (windspren), moving very small objects and the Nahel bond. So yeah, I'm quite interested in what's going on with Cusicesh.

How to defend against shard plate, shard blades, wind runners, ect.
Voidus replied to RJWB0mb's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think in the case of stealing the others stormlight the advantage has to go to Szeth as he has the advantage of surprise, Kaladin might be able to get some from the surrounding still as Szeth would probably fight for a bit to get to them but yeah I don't think it's just going to be Szeth walks in and then announces he's going to kill Dalinar, and Kaladin steals all the stormlight while Szeth is busy monologuing As for whether or not they can lash each other, I'm not sure but I would suspect the answer is yes. We know that they can at least do it to themselves, I think that Shardplate is particular in that it is difficult to invest in it again. We know that hemalurgic spikes could still be pushed/pulled so I think that they could probably lash eachother. -

Kaladin doesn't even know how to lash yet, also considering Szeth has the exact same ability and is more practised with it, he would probably outmanouever him as well. Kal is the only person who stands any chance, but it's still not good odds I think. -

Actually the blade could also chop through Kaladins spear like it was butter. Which would leave him without much of a weapon, I don't think Kaladin would beat him one-on-one -
Oh right so you mean learning all the Aons and modifiers? Could work but it doesn't really lie with Aonas intent.

The Movement of Metallic Compounds in Allomancy
Voidus replied to Odium's_Shard's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think that it seems like that is just the most common reaction of burning Lerasium, not necessarily its primary use (although I suppose it depends on how you define it) but it certainly has other uses. For Duralumin I don't think it's a temporary increase in your preservation connection, as that would just mean you get more power for the amount of metal you have, it wouldn't cause them to burn faster. It definitely seems to affect the metals themselves in some way, changing the speed at which they burn and consequently releasing more power all at once. -

but denying them stormlight is difficult as it is quite common and portable so they will have their own, you would almost certainly have to capture him before you could do it, letting his residual stormlight drain from their body while not providing any new sources. So you'd still have to catch him first, either that or somehow drag the fight out for a good hour if Kaladins stormlight retention is anything to go by, it does seem as though Szeth can't hold it as well but still considering most of his fights last only seconds you'd still have to have some very good delaying tactics, also if he does think he is about to run out he could always just escape to find more and come back another day. -
I can't answer that second one I think, you have to actually record the time for it to take effect so if someone just mis-remembered the time and wrote it down then it wouldn't do anything, as for averaging the recorded times I don't think so otherwise it wouldn't be so consistent, some people would have written down approximate times, recorded with something less accurate than a clock and so might have written say 8:00 but it always comes at the exact same time so I think it must just go off of 1 measurement somewhere, either that or it arriving at that time is just a fixed part of its nature somehow. On the pedestals I would think that the hands would just reach down to the ground where the pedestals used to be, after all the pedestals were built for it so it must have had its hands in those same spots before they were built.

Yeah, one of the things I've always loved reading is the action sequences of Szeth and to a slightly lesser extent mistborn. So much better than 'they shot flames at each other, one was better. The other one died.' makes for much better basis for theorising as well XD Yeah I doubt there will be much more mention of Shards until we get to the third mistborn trilogy or dragonsteel I think.

Mostly Aons, couple of allomantic symbols, the bird (dragon?) in the middle is the only one I don't recognise, as for the writing no idea although it might have something to do with WoK I'll check my copy when i can

Ah cheers, I thought it might have been from an interview I haven't seen yet and I got all excited I do need to go back and read through the epigraphs again, for some reason I never retain much information from them, ugh I need some copperminds

*cough* Hoid *cough* but yeah I remember when I first saw Hoid in 2 books and then I went online to see if it was intentional and spent the next 3 days glued to the screen reading pages of the forums and interviews, I don't know that I'll even remember to eat when we finally get a guide to the cosmere Also I have recently determined that windrunners are my second favourite in magical abilities after TLR so go the Windrunners!

When did we find that out? That's what I'm thinking, especially if it is done on deathbeds and such, or without actually killing them, people could sell their abilities off (Think Drabs) yeah I suppose that Sazed would intervene at some point before it got to the world-hopping invaaders. Oh actually another idea, compounding nicrosil don't forget, and actually if investiture can also boost allomantic ability then potentially this could reduce the effect of hemalurgic decay even more.
-
Yeah but that was between Moiraine and Kelsier, I think that that once the others start facing eachother they'll start getting a lot more votes.

Preservations shard managed to act on it's own (sort of anyway)

Well the power of AonDor comes as a result of the Shaod which strikes people who are particularly devoted to something, so I don't know about that mastery trend :S EDIT: we do know that at least SOME of the Dhakor powers come from the sacrifice of others.
-
Yeah, I don't think it will feature in the future trilogies on a population-wide scale but I do think that given the incredible powers you can achieve with compounding, it does negate hemalurgic decay quite a bit. Now that I think about it given that a single spike can be split into several pieces this could be even more achievable, it does accelerate the decay but ANY amount of allomantic power allows you to compound, it's just about how effectively.
-
They should have a maximum storage, but I'm not sure about whether they can have attributes from different people. I don't think it's likely but it's definitely possible.
-
I was just thinking about hemalurgy again and I had a thought about what would inevitably happen in scadrial. Once the population reaches the peak that the planer can support the population will also stabilise, once this happens there is some very interesting potential, given enough hemalurgic spikes and enough generations EVERY single person on the planet could eventually be given spikes granting both allomantic and feruchemical properties, most interesting will be those given compounding spikes (eventually everyone) as even with very limited amounts of both allomancy and feruchemy (as per the law of hemalurgic decay) you could still compound, and given the ability to compound it doesn't at all matter what your allomantic abilities are you could still store an (almost) limitless amount of an attribute, this means that eventually everyone on scadrial will probably be able to. 1. Gain 10x their current muscle mass whenever they want. 2. Travel faster than a speeding bullet... or say an elantrian? 3. Survive on no food, water or air. 4. Heal limitlessly. 5. Crush buildings with their weight. 6. Remember everything. (like where there enemies live.) 7. well you get the idea. So basically this is an entire army of Miles that also needs no food, water or air and can zip around faster than a bendalloy misting while being able to crush buildings and (if one felt particularly suicidal) ignite the atmosphere of a planet with compounded brass. Basically if you live on any planet other than Scadrial, you are going to die.

Definitely makes sense, I think it would be primarily martial in application as well something that requires devotion to master and allows you to dominate others?
-
Yeah I don't think that all balance systems involve a neutral amount of energy, that was only the case because if it was either net-gain or net-loss then it would lean towards either preserving or ruining and so wouldn't be a balance. On Sel the balance magic system (Which we assume is ChayShan) would just be something in between devotion and dominion, I'm not sure what that would be but I suspect it wouldn't just be something that did neither as they are not opposites like Ruin and Preservation were, it would probably be some concept that was in line with both.

How to defend against shard plate, shard blades, wind runners, ect.
Voidus replied to RJWB0mb's topic in Stormlight Archive
But to regenerate he'd have to be given stormlight again which kinda starts the problem all over again, although I suppose you could make some kind of Windrunner proof cell, walls that were thicker than a shardblade so he couldn't just cut through them and a door of the same (although then I'm not sure how you'd open it... door made of shardplate? so that he couldn't lash it out. -

Voidus replied to RJWB0mb's topic in Stormlight Archive
Problem is that you could only capture him if he ran out of stormlight, if it just came to a duel with him vs. Adolin the only way it could end is with one of them dead, Shadrblade do nothing to living flesh other than kill someone or paralyze a limb forever, so unless they want to make him a paraplegic he does have to die. That is a good point about if there was a Windrunner there whether he would be able to attack since he could potentially die. Even a direct order cannot make him directly threaten his life, so possibly he just wouldn't attack. So I'll add that to my list of hopeful outcomes, he doesn't attack at all or he is released from being Truthless are I think the most likely outcomes. -

Voidus replied to RJWB0mb's topic in Stormlight Archive
That's exactly what I'm hoping for, otherwise I can't see how they're both going to be alive for the rest of the series, we know that Szeth gets his own book at some point and I think Szeth will have to arrive and attempt to kill Dalinar some time in the next book and we also know that Dalinar gets his own book so he obviously survives, this means that either Szeths orders are changed or he no longer follows them, there is also something obviously goingg on with him having KR powers so I think that somehow the appearance of Kaladin will free him from being Truthless somehow. -
Haha, yeah sorry I meant the Ketek, it's great!
