  1. It looks like Dalinar doesn't need Stormlight to open perpendicularity and perpendicularity can't be open because of concentration of investiture only in SR - SR is spaceless. I think what's happening is that Dalinar is opening an active conduit of Honor's investiture from SR through CR into PR, and that flow of investiture - Stormlight - keeps his perpendicularity from collapsing. Bondsmith's perpendicularity is different from a Shardpool, which is just static investiture concentrated in PR, massive enough to pierce realms. And because there is an active flow of investiture from SR into PR, it fills spheres with light, unlike any other perpendicularity. Location doesn't matter when you can reach into SR. The Spiritual Realm is spaceless, if you can reach there, you will grab investiture of your Shard wherever you are. Dalinar can be on Threnody and still be able to reach into SR and grab Honor's investiture and push Stormlight out. It's just like with Allomancy, you can use it anywhere in Cosmere and you will be always drawing from Preservation, no matter where you are. If Dalinar can leave Rosharan system somehow, he would be able to open a perpendicularity no matter where he is and he will be drawing from Honor even if he's on Scadrial - in the same way Allomancy always draws from Preservation. Only Selish magics are location based and they can't be used outside of Sel without hacking them. Perpendicularity is just that, a massive concentration of investiture piercing realms - one thing. But you can use different types of investiture to open a perpendicularity. However it doesn't matter what type of investiture you're using, it still does the same thing. But generating lights is a different thing. Jasnah's perpendicularity doesn't fill spheres with Stormlight, nor do Oathgates or Shardpools do that - that's a unique ability of Bondsmiths to generate lights and pull investiture from SR to fill spheres in PR, just like the Stormfather can do that. Bondsmiths only can do that. Perpendicularity in TLM was an accident at first. It started manifesting due to the large concentration of Metalborns in the area. But the Set carried investiture from off world to open it, and that's most likely was pure Dor, because it was unkeyed investiture that every Allomancer could use. TLM ch 59: He draws from Honor. That is what makes it Stormlight. It's not just that the Stormfather can reach into SR, he pulls investiture from Honor and Honor only. The same goes for both Dalinar and Ishar, but Ishar draws directly from Honor, while Dalinar is doing this through the Stormfather I think (because it's the spren that grants Radiant their powers).
  2. Considering that there are ~20 compressions, your tapping time will be shortened to a minute or two if you account for the loss. That's not very useful. This strategy simply doesn't work if you need to tap with diminishing returns. It works only if you need to for example increase your strength only by 10%, unless you're not using your attributes often, like Wax and weight. For every metal that you're using often it just won't work with that amount of loss. Not viable for F-bronze, but also for some other attributes. I think it would be a distracting mental exercise on its own, forcing yourself to store attributes when you want to fall asleep. Additionally, storing some attributes might be simply too irritating - like heat. But if the mental focus required to actively store attributes isn't that great, or if you personally can ignore that when trying to sleep (I can't), it is a handy way of storing. I think the Flicker tactic would be handy for every task you engage your "muscle memory." Something very repetitive that you've done hundreds of times before and you don't really think about what you're doing when you're performing this task. It can rage from taking a shower, brushing your teeth, cleaning or even some repetitive hard work. You might be able to just shut down your brain and allow your "muscle memory" to do that instinctively for you. Yeah, the last thing you need before sleep is getting severely depressed. Overall I agree. That was fun to read. It just means you won't get sober. For Wayne that's a positive. He was doing sick weeks, it was said many times that Wayne was spending weeks in bed to store up his goldminds and when they got empty, he was storing on pages as much as he could. He didn't lie about serious stuff like that. Before the AoL ballroom shootout he spent two weeks in bed and that was only enough for healing 3 or 4 gunshot wounds. Wayne needed a lot of health, which he could get only by storing as much as possible. AoL ch 6:
  3. The point is Jasnah is not the best. "Power is an illusion of perception" - people think she is "the best" but she really isn't. There were several moments when Jasnah's facade just dropped and she exposed her true self to others, mainly to Shallan. She got her bond the earliest of all characters, except for Shallan and possibly Szeth, but her bond persisted and she had a lot of time to figure it out and advance in her Oaths. Still, she'd sworn the 4th Ideal in between OB and RoW, that's very recently. Right now she is a background character, not a lot of arc and development is going on, but in the future she will probably have a bigger role, her traumatic past will get explored and she will get a true arc. And true, I'm not a fan of Jasnah and Hoid relationship too.
  4. It's possible, Divine Breath can heal body, mind and soul, but there is one limitation, the same as in every form of healing in Cosmere - self-perception. If Taln views himself as mad or having traumas, this won't help him, just like Kaladin wasn't able to heal his scars, just like Rysn can't heal her legs. I think it's really hard to say if Divine Breath can heal Heralds. Probably not, part of their madness would manifest as perceiving themselves as mad and traumatized. Not to mention that perception of other people also plays a role here. True, part of the problem is that they have lived for too long and their mind can't comprehend that long lifespan. Remembering being tortured doesn't help at all. Getting rid of that and sorting their memories might be helpful.
  5. This WoB is not about this tbf. A Smoker shields others around him from being detected by bronze, but he also shields him from emotional Allomancy - only Smoker is protected and nobody else. The question was if a Smoker can shield others around him from being affected by soothing and rioting. A normal Coppercloud won't do it but it's possible to learn in the future. But yeah, I agree. Tinfoil hat for a win.
  6. It helps but it won't make you immune. Each spike makes a hole in your soul that will allow emotional Allomancy to affect you easier. We've seen this with the Lord Ruler's soothing and Vin - Vin with one spike could feel Rashek's soothing even though she was burning copper, while could not. TFE ch 14 ch 31: ch 26: ch 34: ch 35: Here it is when Vin was imprisoned by inquisitors and her earring was taken away from here. She noted that TLR's oppressive Allomancy is not as strong as it was earlier. ch 36: And here is when Rashek deliberately pierced Vin's coppercloud ch 38: Yes, I know Rashek is so strong he can pierce Copperclouds, but in the last quote the difference in power compared to other situations is very noticeable - it was the full power of his soothing and that would pierce any Coppercloud. Kelsier was speaking from experience - burn copper and you won't feel the Lord Ruler's emotional Allomancy - he met him up close years ago. What I conclude based on these quotes is that Rashek uses general emotional Allomancy in the area around him. Because it's general and unfocused it won't pierce Copperclouds. When he focuses his pushes on a single person, it strikes like a physical force, much stronger than any of his previous soothings and that pierces Copperclouds. But Vin could always feel his general soothing, even when Kelsier told her burning copper will make her immune. Kelsier had never experienced that, he couldn't feel that through his Coppercloud. Vin did. It was weaker when Vin had no earring, thus no spike. For me it means that Vin is more susceptible to emotional Allomancy because of her spike. This spike cracks her soul and opens her more to soothing and rioting and with that to hemalurgic control if you have enough spikes. Sure, a Coppercloud can help if you already have 4 spikes. It can make it difficult but you're in no way invulnerable, you're just a bit harder to control, but it isn't outside of possibility of duralumin powered soothing or a normal "team of soothers." It would take a little more time to break through a Coppercloud and establish Hemalurgic control, but a normal Coppercloud won't save you.
  7. I think there are 2 main reasons. First one already happened, he brought Nightblood to Roshar. Second one is less important - to set up and introduce us to Cosmere and Worldhoppers. Except for Hoid, Vasher is one of the most obvious characters showing up in another book. But I don't want to dismiss the possibility of him having a greater role in Roshar. Vasher was originally planned as one of the "main characters" of WoK Prime. He was there from the beginning, he probably has something greater waiting for him in the future. He already was busy during the RoW occupation of Urithiru, Vivenna is looking for him, they will probably reunite in KoWT and Nightblood might be involved too. What's next? No idea. Some cool Awakening I hope.
  8. They might just call it the 1st Epoch, not because they were expecting more Desolations, but to emphasize that it's the start of a new era. Or they might call it the Heraldic Epoch, and when Heralds returned starting the 2nd Desolation, they called that one the 2nd Epoch and retroactively named the previous one the 1st Epoch. We don't know, but it doesn't really matter. What they now call the 1st Epoch most likely started with Heralds, thus the 1st Singer Desolation was happening during the 1st Epoch.
  9. Those are Heraldic Epochs, named after Heralds. I think the first one was after/during the First Singer Desolation, when Fused and Heralds were made. The First Epoch probably ended when the 2nd Desolation started.
  10. This vision takes place in the 8th Epoch, year 337 - that's thousands of years ago, before 9th Desolation, which was far in the past. We don't know when humans started to mix with Aimians but that didn't happen overnight. It started with one person and over millennia it slowly spread across the entire Natanatan. Because this vision takes place so far in the past, this intermixing either hadn't started yet or it wasn't so widespread to be present in the countryside. We have no dates for when the first blue-skinned Natanatans appeared.
  11. You can just edit your post and put that part in a spoiler box. Use the 3 dots menu at the top right of your post to edit Yeah, sounds right. I was just nitpicky about details. Nah, everyone can use a perpendicularity. It's just a massive collection of investiture that pierces all realms allowing one to travel between them. Three realms there become one. You only need to know what to do - command it to let you through. There are even customs on Nalthis, this is that common.
  12. Lifeless act like a living being when cut by a Shardblade: Their flesh won't be cut, their eyes will burn.
  13. Stormlight. It's a Bondsmith power, he's using his Honorblade. Ishar is still pulling from Honor. And yes, it would work on Braize too - Stormlight comes from SR and it's still within the Rosharan system. Another question is if Ishar with his Honorblade can renew the light of spheres at all, or is it just bonded Bondsmiths powers. Navani can create Towerlight, Dalinar Stormlight, Nightwatcher Bondsmitch probably can make Lifelight. I think Ishar can pull Stormlight with a perpendicularity.
  14. I don't really get what you're talking about. Everyone can use Perpendicularity to transfer between realms. You don't need anything to "hold your soul together" or anything like that. We've seen uninvested worldhoppers even - Felt, Iyatil or Kaise for example. Everyone can use Perpendicularity if you know how to do that - Adolin did that in OB. Marasi did that in TLM but only with her grenades. There are so many worldhopper merchants going around Cosmere, you've seen many of these in OB and RoW in Shadesmar. Those are ordinary people just going around planets and using Perpendicularities when needed. They don't need to be invested. TLM ch 64: And just to be clear, Demoux is just an ordinary electrum Misting: You can't learn that unless you're native MaiPon. The Sunlit Man spoilers are not allowed here Spoiler: We don't know if that's possible.
  15. Oh yeah, I know it's an insane idea but that's what Dalinar wants to do. You can't argue with crazy. RoW ch 115:
  16. Cohesion is "molding stone (or other materials) as if it were clay." You can alter the shape of a solid object with that but you can't affect flesh. Tension is making flexible things stiff and vice versa. It's likely it also can't affect flesh, for the same reasons as with Cohesion, explained in the WoB below. If you want to get something like rubber, Tension is the way.
  17. You can't fool the eyes: And you can't fool the valve:
  18. Lifeless are basically on the human intelligence level, they are already responding to certain actions in a pre-programmed way. For example if criminals are surrendering, they have to drop weapons and say "we surrender" and Lifeless won't fight them, they will arrest them. If you pre-program them in a specific way, you can have Lifeless responding to your actions, hand signals, flags or whatever - smoke signals if you want. But if you're talking about inserting new Commands into them, without vocalizing then unless you're a God-King, you probably can't. It's hard to say if Lightweaving would count, maybe? One thing to consider is that an Awakener has to speak Commands in their native language, and if somebody was born deaf, they can Awaken using sign language. But because it has to be your native language you're forced to issue a vocalized Commands in other cases.
  19. I can't find correct words. It was something about an Allomancer swallowing a ball made out of two metals, one which was Allomantically inert on the outside, the other burnable on the inside. The question was if an Allomancer can feel and burn the metal which is inside, the answer was no to both. I think the inert metal was lead but I'm not sure. This WoB implies strongly that you burn metals outside-in.
  20. Well, maybe, it's a lot of metal and you have to redo your piercing every time you burn it. You can even break it in half and the piercing would fall off your tongue if you burn only part of it not all of it. It's not that comfortable. Sure, it's good to have such piercing for an emergency, but I would say vials are just better, more convenient and more easily manageable. Piercings also rusts, which probably makes them not Allomantically viable. And because you burn metals from the surface into the center (there was a WoB on that, can't find it), a rusty metal would not be burnable.
  21. It isn't possible because Kaladin never had a Shardblade before speaking the 3rd Ideal. As for Shallan, keep reading RoW, you will have an answer for that. What was happening with Shallan, Kaladin, Renarin and others before OB, was that some spren felt that the Desolation is near and decided to transfer themselves into PR in hopes of finding and getting attracted to someone who's worthy of bonding. Syl was attracted to Kaladin that way, but that was all because Kaladin was a right person who wanted to protect others. Shardblades are granted generally to all orders after speaking the 3rd Ideal, but it depends on the order (WoB). Now there is another way of bonding. Radiants can have squires. Squires are those close to the Radiant who are getting powers from their Radiant only - almost the entire Bridge Four was made into Kaladin's squires. None of them was bonded with any spren yet, none of them had a Shardblade, but they were getting their powers through Kaladin and Syl. They became squires not just by saying the 1st Ideal, but by living it, wanting to protect (for Windrunners) and believing in those words. Once a squire breathes in Stormlight, it means their 1st Ideal was accepted and they are on the path to become Radiants (you saw some in OB struggled with it). Other Honorspren who wanted to bond just gathered and watched Kaladin and his squires (you can see Honorspren arriving to watch the Bridge Four in OB ch 37), choosing those who were ready and bonding with them - like Teft. Unlike Syl, they didn't have to wander mindlessly around the Physical Realm of Roshar in search of a person to bond, they now stick together and choose from those who are proven to be worthy of bonding, because they've become squires. Squires swear up to the 2nd Ideal, they need to bond a spren to speak the 3rd Ideal and become a full Radiant. That's when they also get their blades. However no matter if you want to be a squire or you're doing it like Kaladin, you need to be ready, be worthy of bonding, be in line with Order's ideals - for Windrunners it's the will to protect. That's what attracts Honorspren. The Windrunner who swore the 3rd Ideal was a squire, who attracted one of the Honorspren watching Windrunner's squires and bonded with her before the RoW even started. This Windrunner has already bonded with a spren, one chose her while she was a squire. Swearing the 3rd Ideal is difficult, she had to overcome her personal struggles and that also takes time. Because there is more squires than Honorspren (around 50), many squires will not bond their spren unless a Windrunner has fallen, thus they have to wait as squires, stuck at 2nd Ideal - with powers only when their close to their Knights, with no Shardblades however.
  22. Yes, but there are some minor side-effects of using such a body: If the color is drained entirely, not only on the outside, but also on the inside, you simply can't Awaken it. Warbreaker ch 21: ch 46: No. Yes I think? Probably like regular type 3 Awakened objects - via Steelsight: No, Lifeless see normally, through their eyes. Awakened objects like ropes and strawmen see like Inquisitors. But I agree, if there were no eyes, Lifeless would see like regular Awakened objects. Keeping Lifeless in the darkness is a bad idea, they are self-aware: No. A Returned that gave up their Breaths uses up their own body color to Awaken and heal. No color, no Lifeless. Warbreaker ch 58:
  23. Yes. It simply needs to be in their body. It probably involves some mental exercise - a proper intent - but as long as it's in the body, they can burn it. Even hemalurgic spikes can be burned. They can burn it, it "touches" their soul, that's what's needed. I don't know if they can control which metal is burnt, but intent matters so with a little bit of practice they can probably learn to do that. There is no need for contact with bones or the nervous system. It's inside their body, they can burn it. Yup, they can burn it. It's unlikely that the coin has the right Allomantic mixup, it's probably not viable for burning. But if it's specially made, with the right proportions, they can burn it. All of them - if intent is there and if leecher has enouch chromium.
  24. That's not entirely true. Reverse Lashing isn't a resonance, having more squires is Windrunners resonance. But it's true the more powers you have, the less resonance there is:
  25. In this particular quote it was not aluminum that Miles was shot with. It was just regular metal from a shotgun, which Wax even pushed. ch 18/19: I don't remember Miles being shot with aluminum bullets, nor did I find any scene like that in the book and I went through all mentions of aluminum in AoL Marasi shot Set's Lurcher with one, but not Miles because of that she had to hid the rifle and run away from the Coinshot. ch 18: Marasi didn't have an aluminum rifle, she had a normal rifle from Ranette with aluminum bullets. Those bullets were grabbed by Wayne after the ballroom shootout. ch 15: ch 6: The worth of a single aluminum gun colorized. ch 14: Wax was even suprised to see an entire gun made of aluminum. ch 6: In AoL Wax didn't have any aluminum gun nor revolver bullets because he was broke and this technology was "surprisingly" fresh and really, really expensive. They had a few aluminum rifle rounds, which were given to Marasi. She didn't shoot Miles with them but a Lurcher only - she had no opportunity to shoot Miles. Wax simply couldn’t have gotten any aluminum guns and bullets in time. They had one aluminum revolver, with no ammo, which was given to Ranette as a “gift,” in return she allowed them to enter and gave them other weapons. So, as shown above, Miles was not hit with an aluminum bullet, nor did he spit them out of his body like that. Aluminum bullets likely can't be pushed out by healing, because your body can't be healed in the place where the bullet is and therefore can't push this bullet out. An aluminum bullet would be stuck in your body unless removed by hand. Aluminum has an area of effect, this is confirmed, aluminum hats are the proof of this. Aluminum disrupts in a field: What's happening is as long as you can heal, even with aluminum in your head, the healing would magically sustain your body. But it would eat through your storages at massive rates. The bullet would not be pushed out, the wound would not be healed around aluminum, but healing will keep your body more or less functional. Sure, some defects and lowered functions of your body would be affecting you, but healing will keep you alive at the very least. SA spoilers:
