Are the listeners/singers mammalian?

Memorized the Rhythms?? That would be very impressive. But she heard them which is also impressive. -

Navani is the proof that's not the case. -
I don't think Ashyn magic is related to Aethers. It is confirmed to be related to Old Magic and Cultivation, that's because at some point in time Cultivation visited the planet. Aethers are independent from Shards and Adonalsium, they do not come from him nor share investiture with him, they can't be out of Cultivation investiture. But the magic on Ashyn did change because of the destruction of the planet. This magic revolves around bacteria and viruses, not spores or Aethers. They are different. Plus if there was another place where Aethers were that aggressive like on Lumar, Hoid (or whoever that was) wouldn't say that Lumaran Aethers are that unusually aggressive. This for me means that only Lumaran Aethers are that weird, everywhere else Aethers are normal like we've seen in another book. But in the case of Re-Shephir, she might be related to Aethers. Either she was one of the Prime Midnight Aethers who resided on Roshar/Ashyn independently from its magic and she got unmade by Odium, or she was a Aetherbound unmade (I don't think that the Prime Aether would continue the bond if they were bounded to unmade, or if the bond wouldn't be automatically broken when the Aetherbound was injected with Odium's investiture, in my mind this is unlikely). Tricky answer, he definitely tried to hide something, or at the very least he wasn't so sure of it. Roshar is the name for both the planet and they planetary system. This could mean that that some Unmades might came from other planets in Rosharan system. Or, because Unmades are created when they are unmade, their former self was killed in process, this might mean that some of them might originate from different planets before unmaking, but they were all unmade on the planet Roshar.

Yes, I think your reasoning is very valid. Storing breath in cadmium will store what you "have" in your lungs. If you're in a CO environment, you can store it, later tap and poison yourself with CO. The same way with pure N air or pure O air. But that can be useful for divers, instead of carrying huge and heavy air tanks, they can just store the right mixture of air under normal pressure in cadmium, and later tap it 2 or 3 times the normal amount to get correct pressure in their lungs. Even better, I don't know how mixture of air is changed depending on depth, but they can have several metalminds, one for storing pure oxygen, other for pure nitrogen, next for pure helium, and pure CO2. I'm pretty sure a skilled Ferring would be able to store just one element in their cadmiumminds if he wants, therefore he can dive without opening his mouth and storing CO2 in metalminds, while tapping the correct mixture of air with correct multiplication for pressure. Quite a useful thing when you split it like that. Or go into a room filled with CO and store just CO in metalminds, while breathing the air normally, just to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. And the same goes with F-bendalloy - instead of just tapping poisoned food (which if you stored poisoned food, you would get that poison back when tapping), why couldn’t a skilled Ferring store just a poison in his metalminds and enjoy food normally, to the irritation of all assassins who tries to kill him? Yes, someone unaware could do what you said, tap poisoned food and poison himself, but someone more careful could store just poison inside. This would require him to know what poison it is, he can't just store things blindly, but that can be done as Straff showed us with A-tin or F-tin. Such person would be just immune to poisoning.

I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time
alder24 replied to Amira's topic in Stormlight Archive
Kaladin is not in the top 3? But I like your appreciation for villains. I love good villains and SA has a few of them. Yes, hating on Sadeas is always justified. "He sounds like a villain." I really like how we uncover more and more of the event of Gavilar's assassination, and progressively we start to change our opinion on that. From a poor victim in WoK, through a king with secrets in WoR, to a "sounds like a villain" in OB, who wanted to bring back Listeners gods for Heralds to return to Roshar. -
No, because the whole idea of the Village and their isolationist policy is to separate Terrisan and Feruchemist genes from Allomancy, for a full Feruchemist to be born again. I think it might be said by Wax's grandmother in SoS. What is happening here, because of the mixing of the population, Allomancy genes mixed with Feruchemist genes breaking them apart, creating weaker Ferrings instead of Feruchemists.

ChayShan Steel Compounding, Breaking the Cosmere
alder24 replied to The Stick's question in Cosmere Q&A
Doesn't it work the other way around? You're using the Dor to become faster. I guess tapping steel would make you faster but it won't charge or do anything with ChayShan. But I think you could store speed while performing ChayShan and that might be a quite effective way for Selish Steelrunner to gain lots of attributes. But it might go the other way around, like you said, use F-steel to charge ChayShan and draw ridiculous amounts of Dor. That would be a quite powerful move. -
Who would win, the Ultimate Cosmere free for all.

Finally making my way through TLM
alder24 replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
No, that's Radiant's effect. No, because Bondsmith provides keyed Stormlight, gaseous form of investiture keyed to Honor, what Mistborn needs, and Ghosetbloods want, is unkeyed light, without connection to Honor. Pure Dor is unkeyed. -
Finally making my way through TLM
alder24 replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Using pure Dor and Perpendicularity to fuel metal arts, making it much, much stronger, on the level of Rashek or maybe even Vin drawing from Mists. Such Mistborn/Feruchemist would be far more powerful, and could fight very well against Radiants - leveling the difference between Scadrial and Roshar. That's partially why Ghostbloods wants to acquire Stormlight from Roshar on a mass scale. -
I'm now on my way to become the grandmaster of paint, next time I will be able to draw angry or surprised faces, and maybe even hair!

Make a bubble, store youthness inside, pop it, tap Atiummind and you just gain 5 minutes of youthness by storing it for 5 seconds (from the outsider's perspective). Very expensive way to slowly crawl your way to almost agelessness, but it will work. Cool Twinborns, finally somebody appreciates F-zinc!

Stormlight Archive 5 Theories (spoilers for all)
alder24 replied to Stockman's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yes, there is more than one way to become immortal. Becoming a Dawnshard is one of the hardest way, as there are only 4 Dawnshards, hidden, guarded and being searched for by some people mentioned by Sleepless. Other ways are easier. But in this case, if Nohodon was a Dawnshard, and the WoBs suggest this, he would be immortal now, like Hoid: Cosmere wide spoilers, WoB about ways to achieve immortality: -

It's better if you read it yourself: -
More quotes: This suggest that the roof was angled or at least its portion with the skylight was angled. In that case Vin could push herself against an angled roof and that push would be in line with the coin push. She is more or less horizontally between the angled roof and the coin. Behold, my mastery of paint:

You could argue that's not Fortune, that's Radiants being more invested, drawing them closer to the Spiritual Realm which enhances their abilities even more. But can be Fortune. Still good one @Tamriel Wolfsbaine, this can be Fortune and I like the idea of how Fortune would work in combat situations.
-
Yes, that's something that lurchers and coinshots can learn to do: Steelsight is more a Spiritual thing than visual, even a blind person could likely see them in great detail, distinguish colors, identify metals etc. HoA ch 34: Now the perception of a blind person of himself might cause him some troubles and time to achieve that. If there is a color blind person he might also have a hard time recognizing colors via steelsight if he sees himself as someone that can't see colors. Self-perception might mess them up, but give them enough time and they will learn how to do that.

Squires before swearing the 1st Ideal? Hard to say. Weaker? Or they can use Stormlight and Surgebinding because they are living with the 1st Ideal, even without saying it out loud, and that's enough (Eshonai swear her Ideal without saying any words out loud, as she was under water).

There is a way - Hemalurgy.

Warbreaker is also my favorite book and Nalthis is also my favorite place. So colorful, breathtaking and endowing - even a dead one would rise to enjoy this place one more day If you read up to a 100-something chapter of OB, then there was an Awakener there! In Kholinar and later in a few chapters. Plus some interesting mentions of Nalthis in Shadesmar. In RoW there is even a fight with an Awakener, I think you already know about that. Keep reading, stuff is happening. Plus Nightblood is doing cool stuff in both books. Edit: Yes, I think most problems with taking Kaladin as an example of Ideal 1 healing is that he suffers from a severe lack of spheres. In current times 1st Ideal Radiants would be novice squires with a decent supply of Stormlight and gems.

Here is the kicker. Honor kind of WAS there on Ashyn and is there today. The same as Cultivation and Odium. Shards are bound to the whole planetary system, not just one planet. That's why Odium is on Roshar today despite being bonded by Honor to Braize. Shard's presence is mostly focused on a single planet, Roshar, but their investiture and influence permeates the whole planetary system. Investiture on Ashyn came from Shard of course. Which one we don't know, likely Odium. But currently Ashyn has a Cultivation-based magic system there, because Cultivation visited the planet at some point in the past personally (was it before Ashyn destruction or after, we don't know). If there is a system without any Shard's presence now or ever in the past, investiture can still manifest itself naturally as there are investiture remnants of Adonalsium - now splintered into 16 parts and associated with every Shard. Invested arts, magic systems, can still arise there naturally, but on a much smaller scale than on a major Shardwords like Roshar. Investiture there will still come from Spiritual Realm, very indirectly from Shards. Edit: @Nogo I've found the WoB about Heralds age: It points more to the fact that Heralds weren't ageless nor immortal before becoming Heralds, that they did age. It suggests more that they could age normally. But tbf that isn't that strong proof - they might have achieved some level of agelessness that only slows down aging, and the statement "Younger than they were when they became Heralds." would still be true.

Aren't you on hundred or something chapter of OB? You read that one already. Kholinar.

Arrow was on the 3rd Ideal. Was it before? I always thought that Kaladin said the Words (even not out loud) somewhere in the past, like Shallan, not after the Highstorm hanging. He already had a pretty solid bond with Syl, she was anchored to him, and Syl even said to him that she was there with him in Amaram's army. Plus there was no frost when Kaladin spoke Ideal with Teft (did he spoke that or only Teft told him?).
-
Not really. Firstly, on Roshar people call anything that is connection manipulation Bondsmithing. Secondly, Raboniel is biased. But there is something going on there.
