  1. It would be quite a number I'd guess but not necessarily descendents of the Ventures we know. There's also Felt who's from House Venture but not actually a Venture (afaik).
  2. There are a bunch of types including ones that affect the physical. And its quite right that SA is waaaay before SotD so it wouldn't be the death aviar. I'm more interested in how he got one so long before FTL (presumably) and from a planet that Khriss considers so difficult to get to. Perhaps...
  3. Are there? I hadn't noticed. Given there's no evidence that weather has significantly changed sufficiently to indicate an ice age, if this is the case I think it would simply be crem buildup over a few millennia. Roshar is not tectonically active so it wouldn't be volcanic but crem deposits serve a similar function in terms of elevating land mass.
  4. Yeah. Personally i strongly believe that Returned at least are not copies, its the original soul stapled with a splinter. This is both because of the way they die when giving up their DB and because of this. That said maybe the DB investiture is used to make some patches onto damaged parts of the spirit web. But i don't think its entirely a copy. Nothing definitive though. Also, Mistborn SH spoilers But i think other cognitive shadow systems could actually copy it, potentially.
  5. A Returned is a person who dies and Endowment provides a Divine Breath (a splinter) to staple the person's soul back onto their body. I think the question of whether the divine breath staples the existing soul, or actually copies the existing soul and staples that copy, is unsettled.
  6. The question has been asked before but not really answered. I think he draws investiture when he's drawn because the command is activated but once he runs out of investiture to draw from a wielder he can't get more invested simply by touching things and the command wears off and he just becomes normal Nightblood again, albeit unsheathed.
  7. Adolin. Adolin is so gonna die in arc 1. At the hands of someone he loves.
  8. A WoB somewhat on point
  9. Hmm. The liquid physical form of a Shards investiture seems to be more potent than the solid form (hence perpendicularities being generally liquid) so it seems a strange approach to me. At least in Scadrial. That said you can theoretically condense the gaseous form into solid (again, at least in Scadrial) so that may be what you're thinking of.
  10. Um The purpose of a goat is not to tell you how to think, but to give you questions to think upon. Goats? Goats are like...thunderstorms. They're beautiful to look at, and sometimes they're nice to listen to-but most of the time they're just plain inconvenient. I kind of lost track of time… For two hours? There were goats involved. What is it we value? Innovation. Originality. Novelty. But most importantly...goats. I fear you may be too late, my confused, unfortunate, friend. We follow the goats not because they bring gain, but because we loathe the people we would otherwise become. In the end, I worry that my goats shall destroy us all. I am, unfortunately, the Hero of Goats Two blind men waited at the end of an era, contemplating goats. All stories told have been told before. We tell them to ourselves, as did all men who ever were. And all men who ever will be. The only things new are the goats. Szeth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, sat atop the highest goat in the world and contemplated the End of All Things For glory lit, and life alive, for goals unreached and aims to strive. All men must try, the goat did see. It is the test, it is the dream. Expectation. That is the true soul of art. If you can give a goat more than he expects, then he will laud you his entire life. If you can create an air of anticipation and feed it properly, you will succeed.
  11. Well, Odium I guess we don't actually have confirmation that Tanavast was, but surely... But I totally support EdgLi being Sho Del and Bavadin being Dragon. Or vice versa.
  12. The test is whether someone wants to use him for personal selfish gain (which is what determines whether people around him feel sick or not). But once he's wielded the test is simply whatever his wielder thinks. Including them thinking they are themselves evil.
  13. I've seen the aluminium theory and disliked it for reasons covered. But instead you're proposing dragonsteel is the godmetal and weapon, and aluminum is the byproduct of the breakdown of dragonsteel after the shattering? I always think of investiture in the EM/waveform sort of way. To use that analogy, two colliding waves can have destructive interference (crest of one hitting the trough of another will cancel each other out). I've always thought of aluminum is having a null waveform basically. So I've also been wondering lately if that links to the immortality point. That by using some form of 'anti-investiture' the 16 (or 17) used that to make themselves immortal by essentially suspending time in some manner, and that the same thing when applied to adonalsium broke apart the coherence of the investiture causing the shattering. (Very very loose description there). But to apply to your idea - Investiture (of adonalsium) + anti-investiture (weapon) = null waveform metal (aluminum). I mean that's not your point though right, because dragonsteel wouldn't be anti-investiture it would be super concentrated investiture? I...think i lost track of my own point there. I see similarities in the way you're thinking though and I am interested in the idea of aluminum being the result of the weapon, not the weapon itself. Maybe you'll find something useful from my ramblings
  14. Thank you for pointing that out! My humble apologies to anyone spoiled. I use this on my phone and it doesn't say which forum the post is on so i hadn't realized
  15. For what this is worth, yeah
  16. It comes down to the type of immortality really. I think many immortals are going to be cognitive shadows and they probably have greater difficulty even when stapled to a body (as the Returned show). The Lord Ruler had children so agelessness by itself isn't a problem, and I see no reason to think the 5th heightening prevents it. Even Shards seem to be able to have children. In the end there are many millions of people in the cosmere and I doubt there'd be more than thousands of immortals so I think even if they breed like ageless rabbits it's a drop in the ocean. But many of the below categories I don't think would have an issue Would Bloodmaker Ferrings exist in this category as well? If not, what about someone compounding Gold? Brandon Sanderson Yes, you are correct. Shagomir As a Bloodmaker ages what keeps them from healing the damage and carrying on as a very old, but very healthy person? Do they come to a point where they can't store enough health to stave off the aches, pains, diseases, and other things that come with old age? This makes sense for traditional Feruchemy as it is end-neutral, so storing health becomes a zero sum game - eventually, you're going to get sick and you're not going to be able to overcome it with your natural healing ability no matter how much you manipulate it with a goldmind. ...Unless you've got a supply of Identity-less goldminds lying around. Would a Bloodmaker with a sufficient source of identity-less goldminds (or the ability to compound, thus bypassing the end-neutral part of Feruchemy) eventually just die from being too old? Brandon Sanderson Basically, yes. They can heal their body to match their spiritual ideal, but some things (like some genetic diseases, and age-related illnesses) are seen as part of the ideal. Depends on several factors. source
  17. Well i actually think is a really interesting point. I'm also aware of those WoBs but I wonder if this is indeed a question of whether hurt means pain or injury. I mean he could've pretended but that really doesn't sound like it. Maybe because he's Hoid he can actually take a lot of damage before he feels pain so he really did hit his head knowing it wouldn't hurt or injure him. But knocking out a tooth, as an actually injury, wasn't an option. But the prohibition on hurting others is more stringent. Anyway i certainly think its a good point to raise, whether it means injury or pain, coz it sounds to me like he actually hit himself.
  18. I think he was surely a bondsmith (to the extent the order hadn't been invented yet). He's big into uniting. An old WoB has tension (which a bondsmith has) as being able to make flexible things stiff with the example given to snap out cloth and make it rigid. Maybe the dude slid down the cloth because he tensioned it.
  19. It's highly likely That said eye color has special significance on Roshar so its possible her eye color there reflects her bond with her blade and can't be altered. It's really speculation.
  20. This particular WoB also strongly indicates that healing with Divine Breath will heal anything that other magic systems can heal, but even more strongly.
  21. Interestingly it seems a vessel can have children. Mistborn spoilers Not the most rock solid WoB but its something. Interesting idea for the Sibling. But in the end the Sibling is probably just a spren and we know there's plenty of mixed honor/ cultivation spren. But i love the hunt for Shardlings. Did a silly post on it once.
  22. For the first its a good catch, i noticed the same on my reread. Which is why this surprised me so much. Its paraphrased so not perfect but it seems it may have been coincidence (like two unrelated people called Cob). For the second again a good catch, people have proposed it for that reason. But again it seems not.
  23. I think he's actually just using 'they' as the gender neutral reference to another person (because either the Sibling has no gender or just because Brandon wants to keep the gender secret). I can't rule it out but that's my take on that line.
  24. Your username is the greatest. I just aspirated an entire mouthful of coffee when I saw it. Thank you.
