  1. When, for the first time in your life, you're regularly voluntarily doing housework because it gives you the chance to catch up on Shardcast.
  2. You were, in the sense that it was one of the first things they considered therefore it was a good question. he just wisely built in that it doesn't happen, because Nightblood is already way too powerful to add automatic-universe-eating-black-hole generator to the list
  3. I'd like to think that as well. But he would not.
  4. Vashara Or George For sure one of the two
  5. Interesting new WoB that leads to a micro-theory. So my theory is that they started as cognitive shadows of some sort, perhaps descendents of a CS that had children, or simply CS with a body (hence blood). I like the idea that it's of Threnodite origin, and the forces the IRE refer to. Curious to hear other ideas!
  6. That's a pretty interesting first question, I actually don't think I've seen that asked. My guess would be that it would work because I think awakening literally creates a simple programmable soul, and it spoils be possible then you graft something onto that soul with a spike. There's a physical body and a corresponding spirit web, even if that spiritweb is made of Breath. There may however be a problem with mixing ruionous investiture with the pure investiture of another shard. It would probably corrupt it, to who knows what effect. To the second question Edit - this wob asks the question but i personally think Brandon was answering about a dead thing, not about a lifeless
  7. Like the idea, like the WoB. I'll see your crackpot and raise a crazy. Silver is to fain magic as aluminum is to 'normal' magic. Threnody is so messed up because sho del are fain and a fain shard was damaged there.
  8. We all love Taln right? RIGHT? New WoB New head canon: Taln was Jezriens bodyguard and his daughter Ash fell in love with the brave sexy bodyguard. Taln them became a Herald to share her pain. Discuss. Just don't disagree because it's so beautiful. yeah i know that was outrageous clickbait
  9. Yeah i think its comparable to the screams Szeth hears, echoes their the spiritual realm.
  10. It appears the spren would not react well. Whether that would sever the bond if they could deal with it, who knows, but sounds like its both possible and a dangerous idea. With something as small as an earring, maybe it'll be manageable.
  11. Calderis gave a superb description of the difference (I'll forgive his reprehensible laziness in letting autocorrect do 'your' instead so I'll just add a couple of things. Bear in mind that while soulcasting is more powerful it is more limited. You can soulcast something into a physical thing. But forgery is so ninja. Its even plausible to turn someone into an elantrian or allomancer with it. And as Cal said, forgery is actually high investiture magic, the Sel ones are because of how much the Dor is trying to burst into the physical realm. Which makes sense, it should take a lot of investiture to rewrite Connection so comprehensively. As Cal said that's why it needs to be plausible. Contrast with soulcasting where you are changing the spiritual aspect but (in my view) that can be interfered with by the cognitive aspect resistingthat change (which is why soulcasting can be done by brute force or with less investiture and more convincing). I don't think this commonality can be exploited it just reflects cosmere realities- two magics rewriting the spiritual and needing to work within the limitations the cognitive can put on that.
  12. It's a question of skill and strength. A savant can do it. Elend could do it with weaker ones if he were better with bronze. Oh and lerasium alters the spirit web. By itself it makes mistborn. Alloyed with a metal it makes a missing. Alloyed with another godmetal it should create sufficient connection to use the shards magic.
  13. @SwordNimiForPresident quite a few people do think that. I'm one. I'm unusual in thinking Sel magics are all even splits of dominion and devotion and the reason they have to do with geographical formations is devotion to land.
  14. Hemalurgy basically removes the part of the victims spiritweb that allows them access to a power and staples it to another person. The victim dies because there's a big storming hole in their spiritweb. The recipient's spiritweb remains their own underneath but they have this piece of spiritweb stapled on, giving them that power but leaving their own spiritweb intact underneath. It is possible for the victim to not die but that's not a known thing in world.
  15. A beautiful recent wob explains (in the context of forging someone to be elantrian or allomancer) that manipulating connection and identity isn't that hard. This is one of my favorite recent wobs as it changed from previous times the question has been asked. Bear in mind though that this is all in the realm of plausibility, not an easy thing. And there are reasons forging yourself to become a feruchemist would be harder than an allomancer. And the implication is that its very time limited- probably better to do that to someone then spike out the ability (Yes i did a theory proposing this -
  16. you'll be stunned to know this has been rafo'd before
  17. We already have, the Imperial Fool But yeah Brandon has said again and again that he doesn't want to do a sequel and ruin how well the first one worked, but he's also said again and again that we will see Shai in cameos. e.g. But there weren't many other characters and without a sequel I can't see any of them becoming significant enough to appear again, unless maybe in the Elantris sequels.
  18. Welcome The reputation titles are just a funny thing to represent how many reputation points you have. You can see them all here. we avoid double or triple posting here, if you want to add a thought just edit the most recent post
  19. When a mate gets a void on his sports bet and you call him a voidbringer and noone laughs and you realize you need new friends.
  20. Ha beautiful @goody153 You should absolutely read the rest of Will. Blades was really cool but i find elder empire and cradle even better. They're pretty fantastic.
  21. Ha I hadn't realized this thread was still going. Alright. Hoid Edition. White Sand Elantris The Emperor's Soul Mistborn Shadows for Silence in the Forest of Hell warbreaker Stormlight Archive Mistborn era 2
  22. The black sphere is a black sapphire. Alethi just don't pronounce vowels clearly. The black sphere is a two dimensional slice of a three dimensional shadow of a Svrakiss. Let me no longer weep! The black sphere holds my sorrow and consumes it! The black sphere is Shai forging herself to be a black sphere. The black sphere is Obrodai. The black sphere is the discord of Melkor. The black sphere was once a kind and generous man, and you saw what became of him. The black sphere is a palace. Let it rule! Let it rule! The black spheres were born from the darkness, they bear its taint still, marked upon their bodies much as the fire marks their souls. The blank sphere is said to consume souls, but I can't find a specific explanation. I'm uncertain this lore is correct. The black sphere, the Heart of the Revel, is the final of the three great Mindless Unmade. The black sphere came from another world, using powers that we have been forbidden to touch. Dangerous powers, of spren and surges. The black sphere gives me its pain.
