Dang. That's pretty cool. It's weird seeing it as part of a name instead of as a username lol

@Calderis I can't remember if you talked about this whenever you were featured, but where did you get your username from?

This is amazing. I wish I had more upvotes. -
Yeah, it's amazing how nice everyone on this forum is. It's one of the nicest online communities I've ever been a part of. (Also, I said I was gonna give you an upvote in my last post, but I forgot to I just gave you one now)

The Second Apocalypse by R. Scott Bakker
StrikerEZ replied to Madness's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Like @Who Sharded? said, I'd recommend starting with Mistborn. I'd also recommend waiting to read SA last because then you'll have read every other Cosmere book and will be able to catch all the little hints from the other books. In case you didn't know, all of Sanderso's fantasy books are set within the same universe. -
Who is your favorite Cosmere character? If you could create a Cosmere magic system, what would it be like? If you could have a Cosmere magic, which one would you want? (You could also be a Twinborn)
-
Eh, it's just not the same I'm kidding, but congrats on becoming a Compounder! Which type of Compounder are you?
-
Yeah, I agree with everything you said about all those series. My favorite is probably the Mistborn series because I absolutely loved the magic and the way that every little detail played such a huge part in the story. Plus, it was my first Sanderson book, so it will always have a special place in my heart. But all of his books are amazing, so there's no real point in picking a favorite lol And I agree about Allomancy/Feruchemy. I have so much fun coming up with tons of Twinborn combos. Another one of my favorite magics is the Aviar. Something about those birds just seems so cool to me.

Aw man, I missed it! Do you mind if I downvote you a lot to see it, then upvote you?

Hey, welcome to the Shard, @Solant! Have an upvote and a free spiked delicious cookie! (Trust me, this one tastes perfect with Horneater ale) DISCLAIMER: Side effects include, but are not limited to, hearing voices, gaining supernatural powers, having the sudden urge to kill everyone, and completely losing control over your mind and body. The Dark Alley™ claims no liability for any damage done to/by the eater of this cookie. There's not much really I have to do for my normal introduction anymore. So I'm just gonna ask some questions. What's your favorite Cosmere book? Which magic system is your favorite?
-
Hey, welcome to the Shard, @Eveleva! Have a free upvote! I'd recommend reading Mistborn next. It's an amazing series with such an amazingly complex magic system and the characters are phenomenal. There's three books in the first trilogy, with another three books set 300 years after that and a fourth one coming out soon. You don't have to read the second three books after the first trilogy, but you can. After that, I'd recommend reading Elantris or Warbreaker. Elantris was Brandon's first published book, so it's a bit rough, but it's still a really good story all by itself. Warbreaker can be found on Brandon's website for free and it's an amazing story, in my opinion. Both of these books have some Cosmere hints in them that will make some characters/events in the Stormlight Archive make more sense. I'd suggest rereading SA once you've finished these two. There's also a graphic novel that's been published called White Sand. It's pretty good, but there's still two parts left to be published. You can also sign up for Brandon's newsletter to get the original prose version. There's also a book called Arcanum Unbounded that is a collection of several short stories from the Cosmere. I'd recommend reading this last, after you've read all of the rest of the Cosmere. In addition, Brandon has several non-Cosmere books to read as well. There's The Reckoners, which is set on a version of Earth where people started getting superpowers, but there are only supervillains, no superheroes. Then there's The Rithmatist, which is story about a boy who lives at a magic school and loves learning about the magic but can't do it himself. There's also Alcatraz vs. The Evil Librarians, but I haven't read that one so I don't know how good it is (I've heard it's pretty good though). The Reckoners is more of a YA book, and the other two are meant for younger audiences as well, but they're really enjoyable even for older audiences.

Jaspian had spent most of the fight huddled up in a corner, talking to the stick. He had very little experience with fighting, so he figure that it wasn't best to leave all that to the others. Especially since apparently a godlike being had been involved. Like, who even tried to fight a god? I am a stick, he heard in his head. He sighed, shaking his head. The stick had become quite nervous ever since the strange god-monster-demon-guy had shown up. The stick was now calming down since that god had apparently been killed, but it was still worried about the god hurting it. Jaspian wasn't completely sure why a god would want to harm a stick, but he did realize that his stick was a special stick, so he had decided to hide it from the god...which seems rather silly in retrospect, now that he thought about it. Jaspian followed Remnant as he led them through the city. He wasn't quite sure what was going on anymore, and he was quite confused by the sight of the magical device that the others seemed to be calling a "gun." He'd never seen anything like it before, and he was suspicious of the man named Strider who wielded it. He was also concerned for the crazy man who kept attempting to invent things, but that last attempt at recreating the gun had really scared him. I am a stick, the stick said. Jaspian sighed, shaking his head, and continued on with the others. The stick was right. It would serve no purpose to worry about these things. He figured he should stick with Remnant and the others to stay as safe as possible, and in turn keep the stick as safe as possible too.

Hmm...well, it depends. Generally, it's best not to talk about spoilers if you're not in either the Cosmere Theory board or one of the book-specific boards, but you can talk about spoilers elsewhere, you just have to be careful how you do it and warn that what's in the spoiler tags can actually spoil the books.

@The Flash What you did as the game drew near its end was awesome. You kept the discussion going and did an amazing job, especially with that document of yours. But I definitely did not like the trolling a time the end done by the neutrals, and I do feel your pain Flash. To me, that felt like the neutrals were just rubbing it in the villagers's faces that they'd lost. I do understand that it was meant to be a joke, but it felt really rude to me. I dunno, I guess it just rubbed me the wrong way.

It was a joke-he was saying there'd be so much power that it'd be absolutely crazy.

Hoooo boy, that's opening a can of worms there buddy. XD Hmm...without going into spoilers here, I'd say it's either Hero of Ages, Warbreaker, or Words of Radiance. EDIT: Which one(s) is/are you favorite(s)?

I'm fairly new to Sanderson as well, but from what I've heard and how many books he's been able to write in the little over a decade since his first published book, I'm gonna go ahead and bet that the first Apocalypse Guard book will be done by November at the latest. I'd probably say late September/early October at the earliest.
-
Oh, okay. You've basically already read everything. You've actually read more than I have. I haven't read Legion, though I've really been meaning to, and I haven't read the Infinity Blade books either, which, again, I've been meaning to do because I loved those games. I think the only Sanderson series you haven't read is the Alcatraz vs. The Evil Librarians series. I haven't read that one either, but I hear it's pretty good. There's also several fun short stories you can find on his website as well.

Dang...that's way better than what I'd come up with. I just liked the idea of person being able to fuse with like a spider or wolf or something lol. I think a story like this would be hard for me to write because it would work so much better visualy, in my opinion. It's hard to describe how I imagine the fusions appearing. Plus, the world I'm tentatively setting this magic on doesn't have normal Earth-like animals. There are definitely similar ones, but they just aren't the same. But I wish I had come up with that idea of the animal's mind and the human's mind competing for control.
