  1. Happy birthday @Duke of Lizards! Also, that’s awesome that your dad was able to get into the books as well!
  2. Would you happen to have an AP Stats teacher who’s name rhymes with Mr. Pasalini?
  3. You know, I’m taking AP Stats right now, so I wonder how different the data would look if we split up the categories into groups of five years instead of ten.
  4. Yeah, that’s what ‘they came together’ could mean in that context. But, with the context of other WoBs we have, we know that Honor and Cultivation were romantically involved, even before they became Shards. So, it makes sense that they’d stick together even after becoming Shards.
  5. @Firerust Oooo, I need to do this when I have time this weekend.
  6. Rereading Mistborn (or the entire Cosmere) would be absolutely amazing.
  7. I got the joke, I just chose to ignore it.
  8. So, I forgot that I was saving my 2,000th post for something special, so this is now my 2,001st post. Yay!! I just want to say thank you so much to this community. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have discovered the amazing world of the Cosmere. I wouldn’t have befriended so many people through the discord. I wouldn’t have been able to play the amazing game that is Sanderson Elimination, and I wouldn’t have gotten to meet one of my best online friends through that, either. Plus, all the theorizing on this forum is absolutely amazing. Not only has my knowledge about Sanderson’s books been greatly expanded, my ability to argue eloquently and disagree gracefully has improved drastically as well. Anyway, I could ramble on for a lot longer, but I’m gonna keep this short. Thank you so much for an amazing two years, and I’m so looking forward to the many years to come!
  9. I mean, the Kholins are a very influential family, so, if they have people that fit any of the orders, it makes sense they would attract a lot of spren. I can totally understand your frustration, I just don’t think it’s as big of a deal. Plus, Brandon is almost certainly aware of this issue, and I’m sure he would make sure to keep the entirety of the Radiants as diverse as possible. Right now, the Radiants are almost all mostly Kholins. However, once the orders have started to reach their normal sizes, the Kholins will be just a small drop in the bucket of Radiants. Edit: Noooooo, I wasted my 2,000th post!
  10. Hey, welcome to the Shard, @rickk! Have an upvote and a free spiked delicious cookie! DISCLAIMER: Side effects include, but are not limited to, hearing voices, gaining supernatural powers, having the sudden urge to kill everyone, and completely losing control over your mind and body. The Dark Alley™ claims no liability for any damage done to/by the eater of this cookie. Man, I’m really rusty at this. It’s been so long since I welcomed someone to the Shard. Anyway, I’m curious, what other fandoms are you apart of? How many Cosmere books have you read? If you haven’t read them all, which ones have you read? Which one(s) is/are your favorite(s)? If you could have any Cosmere magic, what would it be? Have you read any of Brandon’s non-Cosmere books?
  11. I’m 17 right now, but I discovered the Shard when I was 15.
  12. I don’t know about spren naming conventions, but I’m pretty sure the Veden naming system is basically the same as the Alethi naming system since they’re both Vorin.
  13. That’s what Rock tells everyone, but he himself says that he’s lied to Bridge Four.
  14. I think the spoiler period is like 9 months. So yeah, it’s definitely still in effect.
  15. I think this is actually true. I think that all Unkalaki start off learning all the different trades, and then once they become an adult they focus on just their birth order trade. So, Rock had training as a soldier, but he was born to be a cook and became one once he became an adult. Then, he followed his older brothers, presumably whom are all soldiers, down to fight Sadeas for his Shards. Once his brothers died, by custom, he becomes both clan chief and a soldier. However, Rock didn’t want to live with this responsibility, so he pretended to still be just a cook. Now that he is a Shardbearer, and therefore King of the Unkalaki, he will have to come to grips with the fact that he is a soldier/leader.
  16. I mean, yes, there a lot of Kholin Radiants (Dalinar, Renarin, and Jasnah [which isn’t that many in the grand scheme of how many Radiants there used to be, and how many there will probably end up being]), but that actually increases Adolin’s chances of becoming a Radiant: (Emphasis added by me) So, since Adolin knows so many Radiants and is around them a lot (not even just his family but also Shallan, Kaladin, etc.), spren are more likely to bond him. Granted, spren are probably reluctant to bond him considering he’s got Maya following him around in the CR, but Maya probably wouldn’t be very reluctant to bond him, considering it seems they’ve already started to bond in the first place.
  17. That visit was at least several centuries before the events of Elantris and Emperor’s Soul. There’s no way that Odium could have taken it when he was on Sel, but it still be on Sel for Emperor’s Soul.
  18. Personally, while I do agree that Releasers doesn’t fit the naming pattern of the other orders, I think Releasers is a much better name than Dustbringers, because of the Voidbringer similarities. Granted, they could probably come up with a compound word that fits instead of Releasers, but I think Releasers is fine.
  19. I missed posting about Full Feruchemist, oops. And now I tell stories.
  20. On Saturday, I auditioned at the All-Area contest. I got first chair, which means I get to go to All-State!
  21. I think that one of two scenarios happened. Either the original Vessels made the pact before they took up the Shards, which means that they wouldn’t have to deal with the Shardic restriction of adhering to oaths; or the original Vessels made the pact after they took up the Shards, but the wording was something like “we will not interfere in other Shards’ business,” which still allows for Shards to work together, like Honor with Cultivation and Ruin with Preservation. It’s probably neither of these, and Brandon will do something much better anyway.
  22. I mean, yeah, the whole deus ex machina of Odium stopping Venli from being turned into a Fused was a bit much, but Odium did it for a reason. He wanted to keep Venli, who was the instigator of the Everstorm to begin with, around as someone who could tell the newly reConnected Singers about the Listeners and how they brought the Everstorm, etc. So, I don’t think it was too unreasonable, though it certainly felt weird in the moment. On later rereads though, knowing how the rest of Venli’s arc plays out, I think that scene was just fine. (I think Oathbringer is a book that is best when you read it a second or third time anyway, but that’s a whole other topic) And I still think that, if Timbre had saved Eshonai from being turned into a Fused (a less deus ex machina version of that scene), the Fused would’ve just killed her then and there. I don’t know, I have much more confidence in Brandon as a writer that I don’t think he’d make such a drastic change to the story simply because he was worried about death feeling insignificant in the series. I think it was more a happy accident that Eshonai’s death happened to solve that problem. Anyway, we’ll probably have to just agree to disagree here.
  23. I don’t think that every PoV character needs to be a KR. But I don’t see the problem with Adolin becoming one. In the grand scheme of things, he’s just one drop in the bucket of PoV characters. You see, like I said above, I think things would work better if Adolin did revive and bond Maya. Though I totally understand feeling like there needs to be a certain amount of PoV characters that are not KRs. However, I completely disagree. Yeah, I can definitely see that possibly being a problem. However, Thaylen City was just a one-time thing, what with the whole Unity moment, and there will be power creep with or without Adolin becoming a KR.
  24. Does Venli sound like the Willshaper type to you? Honestly, I don’t think, besides for some very tenuous connections, that either Venli or Adolin naturally fit their orders. But I think there is enough potential for both of them to grow into their respective orders. If Venli can bond Timbre, then I’m sure that Adolin can easily bond Maya (assuming it’s possible).
