  1. I haven't noticed it, but I wouldn't be surprised. It's probably just a term he uses a lot because he's used to it. It would be interesting to see just how much he does use it, though...
  2. You guys are lucky you get to take and use your own laptops. I thought that this was just going to be a rant about how bad school laptops are, and then I came across this.
  3. There's also White Sand, which is frequently forgotten. Although, that's probably because it seems very hard to get at. There is quite literally not a single copy in any library in my state- and that's Australian states, so it's a lot more area than an American one. And I've never seen any in a bookstore, either.
  4. Yeah, there's a thread that says all of them. Apart from negaspren and Rotting Chasmfiend, I think there's also zuchini. And here it is:
  5. This is really nice. Simple tune, but it certainly sounds credible as a lullaby. The artwork for the background was quite nice as well.
  6. My problem is I can't remember what such complex symbols look like exactly, so I need a reference to draw off...and drawing off a latop doesn't look so great in class (besides the fact I actually do work in class) so I tend to stay with things I remember. Those are really good!
  7. Hello, and welcome to the shard! Sorry I'm a tad late.
  8. Hello, and welcome to the part of the shard where you actually talk. Yeah, when you first discover the cosmere the first thing you learn is that you have a lot to learn- I was lucky in that I found out about the cosmere before I read the Stormlight books. Anyway, if anyone offers you cookies, I would advise you to be careful, although as a lurker you may already know this.
  9. Yeah, I was pretty sure metal was important cosmere-wide. There's evidence from other worlds as well- on Nathlis, metal is the hardest thing to awake, no matter its shape. Also, aliminium on Sel has the same anti-investiture properties as on Scadrial. It certainly makes sense for shards to manifest as metal.
  10. I want to read Alcatraz, although I haven't found any yet unfortunately. Anyway, welcome to the shard and nice to meet you! Be careful of the cookies.
  11. Hello, nice to meet you and welcome to the shard! I see I've missed making the puns. Not that it matters, 'cos mere puns won't change the newbie's opinion of the cookies, unless of course we Invest way too much time in making them. Which we probably will.
  12. I like this one: Sometimes the prize is not worth the costs. The means by which we achieve victory are as important as the victory itself. Also this one: I try to avoid having thoughts. They lead to other thoughts, and—if you’re not careful—those lead to actions. Actions make you tired. I have this on rather good authority from someone who once read it in a book. But I tend to like a lot of quotes...
  13. Don't forget the aons. I often draw them simply because they tend to be easier.
  14. Well...the cookies are spiked. Hemalurgically.
  15. Shhhh be careful... They are hema-. Wait, you've read Mistborn, right?
  16. Hey, nice to meet you and welcome to the shard! I would advise you to steer clear of any cookies that are offered to you. So which books have you read?
  17. Hey, nice to meet you and welcome to the shard! I think we're all in agreeance about Oathbringer. Oh, and if someone offers you cookies, I would advise caution. They Ruin lives, although they also have a high iron content.
  18. When you see a book by Jane Yolen in your local library and can't stop laughing about it, because all you can think about is the planet.
  19. Yeah, I think his original name probably had something to do with his original purpose: to destroy evil. After all, Nightblood sounds like an evil name, so it was probably something to do with being all good and evil-destroying. It certainly would be funny if he titled the book this original name, although we may realise beforehand what it is...
  20. Thank you, 'cos mere puns are very rarely thought us as a good weapon. However, when one has the right Intent, and a good sense of self-Preservation, they can be quite deadly.
  21. Well, sounds like they must like his books... But that's only the rights, though, that doesn't mean they'll ever make it into a movie. Besides, it also depends on how the book goes when it's published, so if it's not very popular it'll be even more unlikely to be made into a movie.
  22. Sir, you have no Honour! I suggest you Cultivate a sense of decorum!
  23. Strangely enough, I do that exact thing whenever I stub my toe.
  24. I think all that's been mentioned is it, apart from the stories in Arcanum Unbounded. On a slightly different note, welcome to the shard! No-one's offered you cookies yet, but when they do, I would advise you to be careful unless you have an iron deficiency.
  25. Oh great, now next time I watch a poirot and Inspector Japp turns up (or any other Inspector for that matter), I'm going to crack up laughing as I imagine them with spikes...
