... Wow. I can't believe someone just thought of that. I'm not sure whether to upvote you for being imaginative, or not because it has stained my imagination slightly.

What happened to the metals when Harmony came into power?
A Budgie replied to OblivionRapture's topic in Mistborn
Oh of course, I'd totally forgotten about that. -
I wasn't completely sure what I expected this thread to be, but I certainly didn't expect it to be bad puns. ... I just spent ten minutes trying to think of a bad pun. Please, leave me in peace until I can come up with one. Got one. So, I guess you could say that finding a tiny mechanised torturer in your book would be a bit of a...rude awakening...

What happened to the metals when Harmony came into power?
A Budgie replied to OblivionRapture's topic in Mistborn
Since Harmony did totally reconstruct the planet itself, it wouldn't surprise me if he made sure that the planet was very rich in metals. Does anyone actually know (as in confirmed) whether all metals return to the planet, or just atium? I would have thought all of them, since Allomancy is supposedly end-positive: meaning energy is gained with nothing lost. That may be me interpreting it wrong. As for atium reapearing in the later Mistborn books...I get the sense that's something that might be a plot point in one of the stories. Since atium is very powerful, it's quite possible Harmony has hidden it, or given it to the kandra to protect or something like that. Or he might have done away with it althougher, as mentioned. -
Now this has really gotten me thinking about this book. This was my own first Brandon Sanderson book: after reading it, I realized that the author that had written this had also written Mistborn, which I had heard about from a friend. I have this book to thank for being here. The book is great for reasons already outlined, plus one that hasn't really been mentioned yet: the magic system. If you look at the magic systems from other books, they sound like they're going to be very amazing and clever and visually awesome to watch in a lot of cases. Mistborn? People flying through the sky, able to shoot coins, grow insanely strong...check. Stormlight archive? People glow, can fly around, create illusions, transform things...check. But The Rithmatist uses a magic system that, to put it bluntly, is fighting by drawing chalk on the ground. And yet, this magic system that could be (and probably has been) sneered at for having such an odd basis is amazing in this book. I honestly think this book is underappreciated.

I don't think so. I had a look at some of the symbols, and I don't think you could easily see what part of the body it's meant to be, if you're meaning it that way. I always thought that they were just stylised, but with ones that are connected having certain similarities (such as iron and steel, which have some obvious similarities). The person who drew them may have a system that means something, but I don't think it's related to hemalurgy.

Mistborn Dragonsteel Leather Edition
A Budgie replied to NewbSombrero's topic in Events and Signings
If it isn't either of them, that raises the question of who/what else it could be. No other characters have ever been depicted as 'Mist Spirits.' -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
A Budgie replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you see a 'Standard Archive Box' and take a moment to think of Stormlight. -
I've wondered about the metal thing myself. Because of the entire thing that means that some aspects of investiture are interchangeable, some of it would sorta work. I mean, like I think it's generally accepted that Nightblood can use Stormlight instead of Breath (not sure if confirmed). I'm pretty sure that, to a certain extent, travelling to another planet with a Shard just means you sort of...adapt to be fuelled by the different magic system. Like changing a power source. I'd say a lot of this stuff is speculation, theory, and RAFO stuff though.

What happened to the metals when Harmony came into power?
A Budgie replied to OblivionRapture's topic in Mistborn
I can't remember where I saw this, but I'm pretty sure Brandon mentioned that burned metals somehow return to Scadrial. If you remember how the Pits of Hathsin 'grew' atium, I'm pretty sure that was part of the process. -
Book Recommendation for Sanderson Fan
A Budgie replied to Dubisx's topic in General Brandon Discussion
A lot has already been suggested that I agree with, but one that hasn't yet been mentioned yet is Terry Pratchett. His books aren't really epic fantasy, no Tolkien-eque journeys or anything like that, but they are amazing. The books muck around with and destroy a budgie of a lot of fantasy tropes (and others as well), so they're definitely not your average fantasy. Although they may not have an incredibly complex magic system, the magic used in the book is quite interesting, and used in a different style. They also go into the reprocussions of using magic as well. They are also incredibly funny, but they also have a lot of meaning. I'm just going to stop there, because they're amazing, but I don't want to spend half an hour talking about how they are amazing, so I'll finish with this quote: give a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll warm for the rest of his life. Six of Crows was mentioned earlier: they're also good. -
Testing Mistborn Chess
A Budgie replied to Faceless Mist-Wraith's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'm not really into chess, but this seems like a very clever idea. -
Also, since there are lots of clips on the ground from Mistborns and just Coinshots on the ground, they can probably just pick them up. It's also likely that the crew have a stash of coins somewhere to use, and even if it's not mentioned that Kelsier robs as well as kills the nobles, it's fairly possible he would do that if they were running out of clips.

Yeah, I've heard of what Brandon said, and a lot of people tend to assume that it means Adolin will be a radiant. That is a bit much though, because I seem to remember hearing somewhere that he wanted the Knights Radiant to be unlike the typical white, male, chivalrous knights of stories. I'm pretty sure that was mentioned in the coppermind wiki- that was part of the reason for Lift, because she's so unlike that trope. Here's the link for that, by the way, if you want to confirm: http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=1112#28 So that makes it sound like Brandon wants to have the Knights Radiant quite diverse, which they are so far. I think adding in Adolin as well as the rest (plus you mentioned potentially Elhokar could be one too) would be a bit of a stretch for that idea. He still could be a Radiant, but personally I kind of hope not.

Well, personally I've always thought that this works because of the streets of the city. Now, you tried this on your desk, but your desk is made of smooth wood, so the coin just slid. However, the streets would be different- personally, I've always imagined them made of cobblestones. Any coin would catch on the sides of the cobbles, and the sides of the stone would allow you to fly off. If done on dirt, since the weight of an entire body is being compressed into the tiny amount of area that is a clip, the coin would sink into the ground slightly. All this should (plus the added fact some Mistborn/Coinshots do use things such as signs and doorhandles, or a coin plus extra bits of metal) be able to support you enough that you can actually fly. I'm not sure if this is the 'agreed upon' definition, this is just what I think.

Thanks.

So, with the 'Community Reputation' thing, I realise the bit underneath your profile picture changes depending on your upvotes, but is there a list anywhere that tells you at what number of upvotes certain titles are? I should think there should be one somewhere, unless it's meant to be amusing not to know.

Einstein’s Riddle – Cosmere Edition
A Budgie replied to BlackYeti's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Actually, I've seen the original test (we did it a couple of years ago for fun) and although there is an answer, it should always be mentioned that whatever you come up with is not nessessarily true. Perhaps none of them own the shade. Just thought that was worth mentioning, because I'm too lazy to do this thing. -
I think your description is accurate so far, although I agree that I don't think there's any spikes in the arms or legs, just the torso and face. As for size of spikes, in most illustrations I've seen they're just thick enough to fit through an eye socket, probably a bit thinner, and the rest are around the same size. I would say they would be mostly utilitarian, just plain metal spikes, because since there's so many of them you wouldn't think they'd bother engraving the allomatic symbols, although they would be cool to see. I'd say that each of the spikes are going to look fairly similar, but it depends on the metal used: if all spikes are shown, you might want to have the copper ones more reddish, iron ones grey, etc. There might be a list of what spikes are what metals somewhere, I dunno, but I've always thought of the eye spikes as iron and steel, and they're usually shown as grey in illustrations. As for clothing, I'm pretty sure one of the covers of Hero of Ages depicts them wearing black or grey robe-like clothing without shoes, although I think that really any clothing should be fine for your model as long as it looks right. I agree that the clothing will probably need to be covering, since most people only really knew about the eye spikes (although not nessessarily, since most people who got close to a steel inquisitor either died very quickly and was in no state to look for extra spikes, or already knew about the spikes). I notice you haven't mentioned the tatoos around the eyes, or aren't you going to do those? I'm pretty sure all inquisitors have those, because it's a religious thing, but I'm not sure what the exact design is so if you haven't thought that through yet you'll probably want to search that up.
