Let's see...some of this stuff may have been asked before, but I personally wouldn't mind knowing more about the history of the magic system and how it impacted lives when it first appeared (I really hope this isn't stuff that has been answered in the novel but I've forgotten). How long has this magic been around in their world, anyway? I seem to remember the world used spring-power to power a lot of their technology, even trains, because it was cheap when the chalklings could wind the springs up. What would technology be like if they didn't have these? Or would their world just be like ours?

Hello, and welcome to the Shard! And yeah, you'll just have to get used to the abbreviations. 'TWoK' or sometimes even just 'WoK' still amuses me whenever I see an actual wok.

The Spiritual Realm, a way to see the past
A Budgie replied to Thanatos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
*What's your thoughts? Sorry, but I felt the need to do that. Anyway...I don't think the metal is of Ruin? Atium is 'of Ruin,' I suppose, being like his physical body, but none of the other metals are I don't think. -
Hi, welcome to the Shard! Be careful of the cookies. We'll make bad puns about them and what they'll do to you if you eat them.

I'm not completely sure about this, but I'm pretty sure that people who gain Breaths at Nathlis (the Warbreaker world) at the very least are able to retain their Breaths. Remember how Hoid had perfect pitch in Words of Radiance? I'm pretty sure that's because he has Breaths (enough Breaths give you this talent). Presumably, that means you may be right: people from other worlds are able to gain Breaths and take them to other planets. Presumably they already have the allocated one-Breath-per-person, but I'm not sure. I'm not sure if you could actually awaken anything off of Nathlis, though.

My Christmas present to you: a book recommendation
A Budgie replied to galendo's topic in The Reckoners
I've read Worm, and the first two books of Reckoners. I have to agree with you on the powers part: the author of Worm was very creative when it came to powers and what the people would do with them. Even some of the more 'normal' ones have interesting spins on them. Personally, I just love how the powers were. Another thing you haven't mentioned though is that it has a nice overarching plot, and an explanation for the powers. It is really long though, at 1 680 000 words (I just checked) so you have to be commited to reading it. Not that I think that'll be a problem here. -
'Cosmere' was also mentioned in one of the Wax and Wayne books as well, I'm pretty sure. By one of the main characters, in a casual conversation I think.

I joke about figgins being hemalurgicly spiked because figgins being spiked is a reference, but I think someone just said the cookies were and everyone rolled with it.

I'm not sure, but reading it it mentions that the Koloss have 'gods.' I can't find the exact point at which it says that, though. Although, given the writing style of this particular story, it's quite possible Jak was being mellodramatic.

Ah, sorry.

I can't believe you're making us choose between these two. I love both of these so much... -
I just finished rereading (for about the fifth time, probably more) Hogfather by Terry Pratchett for the lead-up to Christmas. Now I've started on To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

worldbuilding,brainstorming- low gravity world
A Budgie replied to M_thraun's topic in Creator's Corner
Yeah, it would be fun to work out stuff. First, though, it depends on whether the people on the world evolved there or came there. If they came there, as you said, stuff would be done to weigh things down, or at least if you were working they would be(hm...an aristocracy where the people in power don't weigh their hair down so it looks good, but the working people do because otherwise it would get in the way?). They would probably have weight belts or something. If the people evolved there, though, presumably they would have bodies perfectly adapted to the environment. We can imagine them as being human-looking for the moment, but different inside for simplicity. This does sound like fun to work out. -
Also, what about awakening, for example, ice? If placed in a hot environment, would the melted ice still be awakened? Or would it just not melt (which should be impossible)?

Since everyone else has mentioned it, I suppose I'd better mention that I'm also in high school.

Sounds good, but why do the Wanderers chase people? Is there are reason for this, such as they need to consume other's Aan to survive? Actually, that sounds really cliche. Or is this Night thing making them kill people for a darker purpose?

Welcome to the Shard! I can't really think of anything else to say in greeting, so just...yeah. Budgies.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
A Budgie replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
To be fair though, when you add lots of adjectives to anything it becomes amusing. And you're very lucky to have lots of friends who are fellow fans. I'm getting one of my friends into them, and my mum's started reading them...but I don't really know anyone else in real life who knows them. -
Yeah, or he couldn't be bothered asking, or possibly he hadn't decided yet.

Well, here's not quite as well known over here in Australia, either.

Hi, and welcome to the Shard! You'll be fine if you stay away from the cookies.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a similar theory before somewhere. Someone also speculated that the stick was awakened. If the stick is a worldhopper, I wonder what powers he has...
