  1. Just want to quickly throw my crazy idea in. In BOM we see the first instances of Harmonium, a metal with unknown affects. I thought it might be interesting if the "Lost Metal" name might be referring to Harmonium, a metal that only has (potentially) appeared once before in Scadrialian history. I was thinking that since Preservation and Ruin worked together in order to create life on Scadrial, this cooperation could have resulted in a temporary Harmony shard. At this point, since they were new Shards they might have allowed some Harmonium to form before Preservation trapped Ruin.
  2. Joking aside, if you were going to kill a planet with a shard shovel, wouldn't you have to use the shovel on some vital part of the planet? Normal living things don't die from a shardblade unless you hit something vital like the spine, so I imagine you would have to do something similar with the planet. Also there is the fact that a planet, especially Sel, is super Invested so there may be a chance that it may be able to heal the damage caused to its soul. If it heals faster than you can dig, it may just be impossible to "kill" a planet.
  3. In the event that you did use a hemalurgic spike to steal a planet's spirit-web, do we have an idea of what attribute would it be stealing? And in the event that you did manage to steal this attribute, what would be the next step? What happens if you (somehow) spike someone with this spike? But if we really wanted to kill a planet via its soul, I think the best bet would be a skyscraper sized Shardblade or Nightblood.
  4. Warbreaker: Secret History: Secret History (alternate): Alcatraz vs. The Evil Librarians (the series):
  5. When you constantly think about how much more convenient Steelpushing would be then taking the stairs or elevator.
  6. There was the time Dalinar offered his shardblade to Sadeas, but it's possible there was some other factor since he was planning to give it away. That or the fact he stabbed it directly into stone could have had an influence. Also, thanks to @Spoolofwhool for finding the exact chapter I was thinking of. I couldn't find the specific page in order to quote it, so it's nice to have a reference.
  7. I have read WOR. There was one scene where Adolin was practicing throwing his Shardblade, where he notices that it takes considerable concentration to keep it from disappearing upon leaving the hand. I believe that it was in WOR, though I could have gotten it confused with WOK. This was something else that made me ask, since there are a few points in the books where Szeth or another Shardbearer mentions the blade falling into their hand after summoning.
  8. Where is this from? Also, if a planet has a mind, does this mean it can interact with its inhabitants, or is it only a passive mind?
  9. Is it possible for a person with a shardblade to summon the blade some distance away from their body? In all of the examples we've seen, it appears in their hand, but could this just be because this is the most convenient location? The reason I was wondering was that Adolin mentions that shard blades normally disappear once you let go, but that with a certain level of concentration the owner can keep them solid. It made me wonder whether concentration could also be used to create distance at the initial summoning instead of maintaining it afterwards.
  10. I did not see this, though it sounds interesting. I was just trying to think of a way that an Elantrian could get around the magic system's limitations,
  11. From my understanding when I read Elantris, the city is essentially one giant Aon, and acts as a power enhancer for all Elantrians near it. Does this mean that an Elantrian could use the Aon Dor anywhere if they kept a copy of Aon Rao with them? Would the distance from Elantris affect Rao, or would the Aon Rao be immune to the distance side affect since it enhances power nearby?
  12. Even though he originally had semi-good intentions, I'm going to have to add Rashek to this list. A thousand years of oppression and attempted genocide puts him ahead of the others in my book. Regalia is also pretty high up since she manipulates Prof, a person who used to be her friend, into becoming the very thing he feared all so she could have a "successor".
  13. It also doesn't necessarily require extra power via hemalurgy. Wax pushes on Wayne's metal minds on several occasions, which shows that a person with a normal amount of power could do this, it may just have a slight resistance.
  14. It would also be much simpler just to give the person spikes or metal minds before the battle. I could see it being used in a prison break scenario though. I think he was thinking of a unique way of getting someone their metal minds.
  15. Yes, I was originally only thinking of the combinations that were based of the base metals. If you add in god metal combinations, assuming you stick to two at a time, I believe there are 545 combinations. My math may be off though, so feel free to fact check me. I may have missed something. Long story made short, there are a ridiculous number of combinations. *Ninja'd again
  16. That is a semi-complicated question, since we have WOB that there are many different alloys of god-metals. For example, you could potentially create several different metals if you used different amounts of lerasium and atium for each alloy. I ignored this for now to simplify the math, as well as assumed that we would only be using the current known shards, since if you tried to calculate the number of combinations if a person held 2, 3, 4, etc, shards the number starts getting ridiculous. In answer to your question, I believe there are about 305 possible combinations, if you ignore the conditions I mentioned. *Ninja'd by StrikerEz
  17. I've seen a lot that says that gold can heal shardblade wounds, but does this also apply if the spine is severed? It seemed as if people died almost instantly from this, so I was unsure. Also, I've read through this thread and haven't seen this mentioned. Can a Radiant with the Gravitation surge feasibly keep up with a mistborn? The gravitation surge isn't actual flight but is more like controlled falling. Kaladin thinks about this when he is fighting Szeth, where he has some trouble because of the wind. The gravitation surge seems great for long distances, but I'm not sure it would be as good for the maneuvers necessary in a Mistborn-Radiant dogfight. While it does depend on the environment, steel pushes and iron pulls give a mistborn more minute control over their flight. Thoughts?
  18. Would you still grow a new head if the weapon was left where it was, so that it keeps the head and body separate? I don't think it would make a difference, I just wanted to ask.
  19. I get this sometimes too. Often (at least for me) it seems to go between extremes, with either no-one posting or everyone posting in a constant stream.
  20. Welcome to the Shard! Have an up vote! Which books have you read?
  21. Do the Forsaken have a way of stopping TLR from using his unlimited speed? If not, I don't see how this fight can end in their favor, since it would end before they could even use a weave.
  22. I would have to go with Eragon, simply because he knows several magic words that cause near instant death. Kaladin could win, assuming he could get close, since a shardblade would beat Eragon's sword but since the ancient language has a such a long range I can't imagine him being able to close the distance quickly enough.
  23. I'm fairly sure that since you can only use a single bind point per spike that even if you did what you described that you would only be able to use one power at a time. I did come up with something similar while reading though. What if you had a really long hermalurgic spike, and ran it through two people's bind points? Would they each get powers?
