  1. When you mentally compare the Silent Realms in Zelda: Skyward Sword to the Cognitive Realm. When you see an illustration of a white sun and your first thoughts are Autonomy and Taldain, even thought you haven't even read White Sand. When you with you could hike up a specific mountain in Utah (Mt. Timpanogos) just because a friend just because a friend of yours said he once walked past Brandon Sanderson while hiking it. When you think of the Arbiters from Emperor's Soul when doing the Arbiter's Grounds dungeon in Zelda: Twilight Princess. (And you know you're a Zelda fan when it's vice versa) When you think of various media production of nearly all the cosmere works.
  2. If you want good fantasy books written by a really great and prolific author in addition toBrandon Sanderson books, I'd recommend Brandon Mull books. Particularly Fablehaven and Candy Shop War. They're not exactly long epic fantasies with a hard magic system, but they're still really good, really enjoyable books.
  3. Welcome, @Edgedancer_01, to the Shard! We're glad to have you here already! Oh, come on, you shouldn't diss yourself about your writing. This is coming from a fellow friter of sci-fi/fiction. You WHAT??? Whew, it took a month alone to read WOR, and I was trying to be fast about it! I'm impressed! Yay! I'm also a fan of nearly all of those too! You are definitely a welcome addition to the 17th Shard in my book. P.S. I think you should choose the Horneater stew in favor of the spiked cookies. Maybe even the Horneater lager.
  4. Hey... was that a reference to the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series?
  5. Sorry again for such a huge delay! Access to this site has become more difficult for me recently and the site I was using to create memes stopped working again for a little while. Hope y'all enjoy these! Here's Chapter 2: More to come later!
  6. Sixth of the Dusk Shadows for Silence Edgedancer Secret History The Emperor's Soul Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania Elantris Mistborn: The Final Empire The Hero of Ages
  7. I think the OP is referring to William, Silence's departed offscreen lover, rather than her daughter William Ann.
  8. This is my life. I started reading Sanderson books because I've had "original" ideas that I found out were already taken by him. I'd tell my dad about some of my story ideas and he'd give me this look of disbelief and say "You can't do that". I'd ask why, and he'd respond with something like "Read Mistborn" or "Read Elantris". Most notable is my "original" idea to have a series containing three different metal-based magic systems, with one of them being positive, one negative, and one somewhat neutral. I was shocked to find that Mistborn had already done that. I'm still going forward with that magic system idea, though I've had to make a few changes and I'll need to be careful about it. Another one was the idea of a magical phenomenon suddenly seizing a person and enhancing both their appearance and abilities, including changes such as changing their hair color to white. Then I read Elantris and realized that the altered physical appearance thing was a no-can-do, though I'm still sticking with the sudden strange magical phenomenon seizing people thing, considering it's one of the three metal-based magic systems I mentioned before. And now that I've read Sanderson's books, I've found that now some of my story ideas are still sharing connections with cosmere books, as if reading them is now influencing my ideas rather than my ideas coincidentally being related to them. I agree so much.
  9. Obliteration: I just hate him so much. He quotes the Bible in a blasphemous way, causes untold genocidal destruction, is completely invincible with practically no weakness, and is obviously a total sadomasochistic psychopath, especially considering he faced his fear and drove out the darkness caused by Calamity a long time ago already. The blasphemous Bible quotes in particular are what trigger me about him. KanPaar: How could you be more scummy than him? This guy, despite his centuries of age, is a childish, self-righteous, self-appointed, self-serving brat who is quickly willing to throw away his race's oldest custom (the First Contract) and disobey the First Generation just so he could live. Even before then, when he presided over TenSoon's trial, you could tell that he was a total dirtbag. At least the Lord Ruler did what he thought was for the good of the world durin his centuries of villainy. Dilaf: For some reason, I can't hate him. I guess I just found him to be too cool of a villain. Sadeas: THAT STORMING ROTTEN PILE OF ROASTED CHULL DUNG, DON'T GET ME STARTED ON HIM!!! Amaram: He's just doing what he thinks is for the good of the world, he just has an unfortunate way of going about it. I dislike him, but I don't totally despise him. Tonk Fah: Give the poor fellow a break, we didn't see that much of him. Mr. Suit: Same with Dilaf. I think he was too cool to be all that despicable. Forch: This is the guy we're all forgetting about! An unsuspecting Twinborn Terrisman boy turns out to be a psychopathic child murderer who's cutting open a five-old's-chest? How could you not hate that? He garnered both terror and loathing from me. Iadon: How is it that I almost forgot about him? He's rude, unprofessional, disrespectful even to royalty, uncaring about his own son's circumstances, and very weak-willed. absolutely hateful. And that was before we found him naked and covered in blood, holding a knife over an eviscerated maid's body. Yeesh.
  10. Alright, finally! The site I was using to make my memes is now functioning properly and I can get to creating Memedancer! Apologies for the big delay. Let's see if this will be any good Starting with Chapter 1:
  11. My favorite has got to be Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor. It's especially fun to say once you memorize it. I even had Siri call me by that name on my phone for a while, but she could never pronounce it right. My other favorites are Taravangian, Waxillium, Cephandrius Maxtori, and Hrathen.
  12. Here you go, since I don't have time to explain: http://coppermind.net/wiki/Worldbringers
  13. Hmmm.... Um..... So -- have you read Mistborn? So... just "Sorrow" and nothing else? Interesting...
  14. Emperor's Soul is one of my favorites as well, pretty much for the very reasons you've explained. I didn't find it boring at all though, honestly. If I had to put my top three favorite cosmere series' in order, they would be 1: Misborn Series 2: Stormlight Archive 3: The Emperor's Soul It's this story that I absolutely love and highly recommend to others, not just because it's a cosmere novella or because it was written by Brandon Sanderson, but because it's an absolutely beautiful story with some of the most real characters I've ever found in any book. I kind of agree with you in the opinion that this story is the best.
  15. You make a very good point.
  16. According to what I've read on the Coppermind, yes. Or rather, the Shardworld itself is electric-based. Here's the link: http://coppermind.net/wiki/Dark_One That actually does make some sense, I suppose. Being destined to destroy the world and knowing that you are correlates well enough with that Intent, but I see a hole in that. Wasn't Ambition Splintered and destroyed very soon after the Shattering? And according to the Coppermind article I just mentioned, the Dark One story takes place thousands of years after the Shattering. That's one flaw I see in it. But oh well. For some reason, I've been thinking of Faith as possibly being the Shard. Not sure why.
  17. No, you are not. I am also really excited for that story. Who wouldn't love a good electric-based-anti-Harry-Potter story? I've already been thinking about what it's Shard might be if it's Shardworld contains one, the general storyline, and the magic system. But we have to wait such a long time for it! Fanboy problems...
  18. These are so cool! This needs to be a thing! Why doesn't this have more upvotes or notices?
  19. Slider! Yay! I love giving myself more time to do things!
  20. Stoneward - 47% Bondsmith - 47% Skybreaker - 44% Windrunner - 34% Willshaper - 22% Edgedancer - 19% Dustbringer, Elsecaller, Lightweaver, Truthwatcher - 0% The percentages don't really add up, but -- ah, whatever. I'm good with my results. Stoneward, yeah!
  21. My #1 favorite quote is from Dalinar in WoR when talking to Kaladin and Amaram, and he says that an apology is in order because of the conflicting stories of both men. We think he still believes Amaram and when Kaladin steps forward to make a false apology, he says: "Not you, son." To me, there was just so much power and epicness in those three words. In that small sentence, in that one moment, we realized that Dalinar was honorable enough to trust the word of a darkeyes over that of a close friend, we realized that he actually knew Amaram for the pile of moldy crem he really was when we thought only Kaladin knew, and one of the most infuriating subplots of the series (at least, to me) was finally resolved all at once. That one line was so epic, I literally exclaimed "OOOOOOOOAH!!!" in excitement while reading. I imagined Dalinar slipping on a pair of shades when saying that, because of how much he WRECKED Amaram with those three words. Sorry for the excited word vomit, but... ugh, it was just such a fantastic and well-placed line.
  22. So, seeing as there's been some inactivity on this thread for a while, (and in the hopes that I'm not committing necromancy in doing this), I was wondering if we could meme-ify the Edgedancer novella, aka Memedancer, seeing as it's been done for TWoK and WoR. I could reread it and continue to meme-ify it, or I could just leave it up for suggestion and let someone else who likely has greater skill do it. What do you all think? Edit: So the website I've been using to make my memes, Memegenerator, isn't functioning properly or allowing me to create new memes, so I am currently unable to follow through with Memedancer and won't be able to until further notice when the site works for me again. Sorry for the delay!
  23. Okay, this one's just awful, but here goes: What is Waxillium Ladrian's least favorite Egyptian God? Set.
  24. I went with my dad to buy Calamity from a nearby bookstore right after it came out (we were both reading The Reckoners at the time), and as we were getting it and a few other books, the cashier lady asked us if we were willing to pay a bit extra (I think) to get a signed copy instead. My dad and I looked at each other for a moment, then said yes. So now I have the 465th copy of the book Brandon signed (he wrote the number and everything). Unfortunately, I can't say I've met Brandon in person, which is funny, considering I live in somewhat close proximity to where he lives. Oh, well. One day...
  25. Well, there were the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings movies, and while they definitely weren't as good as the books, they were still pretty good anyway. I think the Mistborn saga has a chance to be as good as them in the form of a movie series. Not possibly as good as the books, mind you (I agree with you on that), but still pretty good anyway.
