That sounds like something that would really screw the whole cosmere if a combo of those two existed. Too bad one of them killed the other one, though. Possible wasted opportunity...?

Which Sanderson character is it?

Muahahahahahaha! -
I am going to describe a certain character (or two) from a Sanderson series (or two), and I want you to tell me who it is. Simple!

Are you sure about that? Last I checked, all they knew how to play was skaa music.

What are your Cosmere names?
Borio Singaldi replied to Borio Singaldi's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Kandra name? Ha! Why didn't I think of that? That's awesome! Hey everyone, let's try making up our own kandra names for fun as well, following along with what @ryshadium90 explained! My kandra name is VeLuun (because it sounds right). -
What are your Cosmere names?
Borio Singaldi replied to Borio Singaldi's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Yes, I understand that. Maybe I should have better worded it. I just did it because I wanted to preserve the secrecy of my dad's identity. -
In the hopes that this hasn't already been done before, here goes: On the many different Shardworlds of the Cosmere, the ways people are named are vastly different. It made me wonder what my name or anyone else's name might be on one of these Shardworlds. So how about we use what we know about ourselves to figure out what our Cosmere names would be on these different Shardworlds for funzies (or just make up if we can't figure them out)? What we know: In the case of many of the trappers on First of the Sun, they are named after the order of birth in their family (first name) and the time of day in which they were born (Last Name). In the Vorin cultures of Roshar, most names are designed to be symmetrical in some way as a form of holiness, because Vorin people associate symmetry with the Almighty. In the Unkalaki culture of Roshar, names are long and kind of hard to say, seeing as they are short poems in the Horneater language that are also used as names. In the Shin culture of Roshar, a person's last name depends on their gender, making it so that if you're male, your last name is your father's name, connecting to your first name with the word "son", and if you're female, your last name is your mother's name, connecting to your first name with the word "daughter". And if you don't feel comfortable with your parent's name being part of your own, you can repeat the "son/daughter" part again and place your grandparent's name after it. In the Korathi culture of Sel, names are based on Aons; sometimes a particular one that goes with a person's personality or characteristics. In the case of many of the Returned on Nalthis, their names are compound words given to them by their worshipers that seem to go along with the personality and appearance of the Returned. In the Forests of Hell on Threnody (and in the Threnodite System in general), names can range from old-fashioned-to-modern everyday names we have like William, Harold, and Earnest to foreign-sounding names likes Dob, Theopolis, and Sebruki to specific attributes that involve sorrow or grieving like Silence, Lamentation, Elegy, and Purity. It seems you really could go anywhere with Threnodite names. Knowing this, feel free to try to figure out or create your Cosmere-based names and then explain why that's your name! (I'll be using a bit of actual information about myself, but there's no reason for you to do anything like that. If you don't feel comfortable sharing information about yourself, feel free to make things up. I just don't want people to feel like I'm trying to glean personal information from them.) Using myself as an example: First of the Sun trapper: Second of the Afternoon (Because it relates my family placement and time of birth) Vorin: Ianai (Because it's a symmetrical palindrome similar to my actual name) Unkalaki: Mukurakalutiatu'inamoroku'atakumu (Because I just made that up on the spot and it sounded legit Unkalaki to me) Shin: Ian-son-son-Blaine (Because of my grandpa's name, though I could use my dad's if I wanted) Korathi: Saode (Because of the Aon "Sao", which means intelligence and learning, which are qualities I relate to) Returned: Smileseeker (Because I look for happiness and goodness in the world around me) Threnodite: Requiem Carlton ("Requiem" because I love music and a requiem is a sad, grieving song, and "Carlton" because it's old-fashioned)

Geniuses Wanted- Well Read Sanderfans -with restrictions
Borio Singaldi replied to 1stBondsmith's topic in Cosmere Discussion
These are kind of quite out there, but I'll go for it anyway: Stormlight: Rayse will die and the True Desolation will be prevented at the end of Stormlight 5, but Odium will still live on. One of the main characters (maybe Kaladin or Adolin) will Ascend to become the next Vessel of Odium, leading to a complete change of original intentions in which Odium, in the hands of its new Vessel, will go about his mission of hatred in a completely different way. Maybe at the end of that book, Dalinar or someone else important will receive a vision that comes with an Everstorm in which Rayse himself speaks to him via a prerecorded message, a la Tanavast has done with the highstorms. Rayse will vent out his anger and explain the recent events as well as what he thinks is to come. Many of the main characters may die at the end of that book (or during the gap between books 5 and 6), but I'm fairly sure that at Lift and Renarin will live through to the second book arc. Adolin will never become a Radiant, and will eventually become an antagonistic figure in the Stormlight series in some way or another. Oathbringer or Stormlight 4 will finally introduce us to the enigmatic Ghostblood Thaidakar as a new antagonist to the series. Mistborn: The third Mistborn trilogy will take place in the Scadrian System (not just Scadrial, but also Aagal Nod and Aagal Uch), the Drominad System (First of the Sun and maybe the next three), and the Threnodite System (definitely Threnody, but maybe Purity, Elegy, Coronach, and Monody as well), and maybe even the Rosharan System (but only Roshar). I know that's a lot of planets, but we've seen stories work even while taking place on a vast number of worlds (the Star Wars saga, anyone?), and we know that Era 4 will be somewhat of an interplanetary sci-fi space opera like Star Wars. Also, one wonders what the point of having all those worlds in all those systems is if they never play any part in the story or in the cosmere's worldbuilding, especially in the case of Aagal Nod and Aagal Uch, which are in the same solar system as Scadrial itself. I mean, they may be there just for the fun of making the cosmere a bigger place, which is probably the case with all the little dwarf planets and extra moons in the Scadrian, Drominad, and Selish Systems, but who knows? Anyway, I think that the trilogy will include the Drominad System because I'm pretty sure the Ones Above mentioned in Sixth of the Dusk are Era 4 Scadrians, the Threnodite System because of it's near vicinity to the Scadrian system (as evidenced by the Starbelt), and the Rosharan System because if the trilogy ends up being somewhat of a climax to the cosmere's story, it will likely include the worlds of its two most major series', namely Scadrial and Roshar. This is assuming the Era 4 books will be conflux novels. Now as for the Selish System... I don't think it will really factor into the third trilogy, as it would just add even more on to make the stories feel a bit overloaded. Maybe the planet Donne/Doo will be briefly featured, but that assumption is only based on the fact that it is given a peculiar amount of detail in Khriss's essay on Sel. With all that being said, I doubt that Sel itself, Nalthis, or Taldain will be included in the final Mistborn trilogy. P.S.: I predicted that a cadmium time bubble, which is usually considered the weaker of the two types of time bubbles, would be ironically essential to the climax of The Alloy of Law long before I even read the book. I made that prediction based on what my dad told me about time bubbles while I was reading the first trilogy. And we saw that exact thing happen, with Marasi's time bubble giving time for the constables to arrive in time to apprehend Miles Hundredlives right at the end of the book. So predictable, in my opinion. The book was obviously setting up cadmium bubbles to be of some relevance when comparing them to bendalloy bubbles. -
Makes sense.

Speculation on the importance of the color Red
Borio Singaldi replied to Steeldancer's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This is just me, but I've always associated the frequent appearances of the color red with Odium. It's a weird habit of mine where I try pairing Shards with colors. But if while we're on the topic of red being a frequent occurrence in the cosmere with some potential importance, then what about... Shu-Dereth? -
Really? I thought it was only 994 pages long, while WoK was 1008 and WoR was 1088. According to iTunes. Where did they say it's larger?
-
No, admittedly I do not. I hated him from start to finish when reading Reckoners. He was just way too annoying, way too overpowered, and way too sacrilegious for me. I have a hard time seeing what people like about him.

I'm just going to go against the mainstream here and list off my top five least favorite characters: 1. Obliteration 2. Zane Venture 3. Blushweaver 4. Torol Sadeas 5. Telrii

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

...you hear a health video mention burning calories and your first thought is "metal", followed by "Allomancy" (this literally just happened to me today). -
If it is a coincidence (which I think it might), then it's a really big one and you've made a good connection in pointing it out. If there is a hidden meaning to it, then I have no idea what it could possibly be.

Favorite Book: The Philosopher's Stone (normally, I'd call it the Sorcerer's Stone, but it just didn't feel proper.) It was pretty much the book that kickstarted my love of reading and pretty much my childhood in general. Favorite Character: Severus Snape (I don't care how flawed he is. He's still my all-time favorite Harry Potter character. I was even him for Halloween one year.) House: Ravenpuff. I'm Hogwarts Divergent; don't question it. I see myself as a Hufflepuff, as do most of the quizzes I've taken, but Pottermore calls me a Ravenclaw, so... I guess I'm both. Favorite Movies: Prisoner of Azkaban and Deathly Hallows Part 2. Best musical scores of all the films.

Narrowing Down the Last Shards [AU]
Borio Singaldi replied to Khyrindor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This is just a thought I had, but since not all of the Shards have to have perfect opposites and such, I decided to theorize along the lines of godly attributes. What if we looked for Intents related to characteristics of God rather than just trying to find opposites for those we know of? I'm not the only one to bring it up, and I agree with the line of thinking. So what I'm thinking is that there could very likely be a Shard named Faith. I know that at first it might seem too similar to Devotion, but remember that we have seen Shards with (somewhat) similar Intents before. Faith is a godly attribute that I'm pretty sure someone like Adonalsium would have if it was pretty much God. I believe that this Faith Shard could easily be the one on a yet-to-be-revealed Shardworld that we'll see in one of Brandon Sanderson's upcoming books. (My crazy theory is that is might be his Dark One novel, but that is just total speculation without any grounding.) And on the topic of godly attributes, I definitely agree with the possibility of a Shard with the Intent of Birth/Creation. I mean, if Adonalsium was pretty much the God of the cosmere, and if God created all things, wouldn't there be a Shard with the Intent of Creation or something with a similar name? It makes me wonder: who knows what a Shard with that singular Intent would be up to and where would it be? And what book or series could have to do with that? Also, I agree with Awareness being a good possibility for a Shard Intent. I think that if there is such a thing, then Awareness is the yet-unnamed Survival Shard. We know that the Survival Shard isn't named Survival, and we know that it's actions are only tangentially related to its Intent. We also know that it's hiding because of Odium, perhaps because it's very aware of events in the Cosmere, even more so than any other Shard, which is why those other Shards never anticipated or survived being attacked by Odium, but this Shard has escaped it. Awareness would fit its Intent very well.- 164 replies
