  1. Stones hardening under heat is something which is seen I think. Also, being hard as quartz doesn't mean it can't be carved, it just means that it's a lot harder, which is the point. Finally, I don't know where you're getting the thought of the stone being cast. That word is never used to describe the hardening of soulstone in the book, (it only shows up once in the actual story in reference to a chain), and even in the context you're using with regards to metal it's incorrect. When you cast metal, you're shaping it, not hardening it.
  2. Lovely triple posting. For your information, there is an edit button, whose use is preferable. You do bring up interesting points. I'll try to address them when I'm home and have time.
  3. I think it's that the Stormfather is the spren of the highstorms. The Everstorm, a counter to the Highstorms, would therefore be the opposite of the Stormfather, as he is the sapient embodiment of the Highstorms.
  4. Posting the passage that I myself posted and referenced earlier when explaining why I think things are the way they are isn't going to change my interpretation unless you actually give reasoning to support your interpretation.
  5. No problem. If could just edit the spoiler tags around the spoiler information in your previous post, that would be perfect.
  6. I've heard that before. You mean that you're interpreting that the "you" is referencing Szeth instead of the Shin people in continuation of the first statement? It's possible. I don't agree though especially with the distinction made between revere and worship. It feels too much like he's still talking about the Shin people as a whole. Overall though it's unclear, so either interpretation can be taken, though they have very different meanings. Edit: Never mind. Having looked at the actual text in the book, there is no doubt for me that Nale is referencing Szeth with the you.
  7. Possibly. I'm just not seeing any motivation for Helaran to want Lin to think he was dead. He clearly expressed that he wasn't afraid of anything Lin would try to do, clear disdain for him. Furthermore, he intentionally set himself to make Lin lessen his abuse of Balat, Wikim, and Shallan. With Lin thinking Helaran is dead though, he would be free to abuse without fear of retribution once more.
  8. @geoffw35 Something interesting to keep in mind is that Lin had received news that Helaran had died on an Alethi battlefield.
  9. @Radiant_Jaeger Use the spoiler tags to actually hide the spoiler. Select the text and press the eye button in the bar. Why would Shallash specifically have the last Honorblade out of all the Heralds?
  10. @grayhicks. Brandon has essentially confirmed that Honor's death came after the Recreance.
  11. Nice work. However, I honestly think that assuming that common words are specifically placed to indicate other shards is a fallacy, and that little to no weight should be taken. Also note that the WoB that there is a shard that wants to hide and survive came out four years after Hero of Ages. Since that the intent isn't that action, use of the reference to survival really doesn't mean anything.
  12. The one thing that doesn't make sense. If he has the honorblade, why not bond it then dismiss it so it can't be found at all? Also, as I said earlier, there's still the issue that the blade was likely swapped before Bordin saw it. Overall, there is nothing indicating that he has an honorblade, and chances are high he's just referring to something else. For all we know, he has another r black sphere like Gavilar has.
  13. How could that be the case when it appears the Honorblade was swapped before Dalinar received the shardblade, and probably before it left Kholinar? Can you quote the specific passage?
  14. I'll point out that the Hierocracy didn't happen until some time (centuries, possible millennia) after the Recreance.
  15. Luckily, there are no holes to be punched since this conclusion is correct as stated at the end of WoR.
  16. You can give and take traits with hemalurgy for non-sapient beings. I'll correct you on a fact though; horses are sentient, just not sapient.
  17. Actually, Nale says the opposite. He said they revere the spren of stone, but their gods are the Heralds. Edit: I'm incorrect. The source I we've using to read the books online do not have italicize the "you" in the last line, which in the actual book makes it abundantly clear that Nale is talking about Szeth not worshiping the spren. Fixed the text.
  18. Yeah. A bit lower down does have her saying she feels the shadowy power when she burns it. I don't really like it though. It contrasts my understanding of things.

  20. 1. I though Vin wasn't able to burn the metalmind. My impression was that she could sense the potential power that would be granted if the metal was burned, like with other allomantic metals, but was unable to access the metal by burning it.
  21. As far as we've seen, binding the surge of gravitation functions by manipulating the spiritual connections between entities in order to affect how they treat gravitational forces, which then results in the physical effects we observe. I'm honestly not sure what you're trying to suggest, but I don't think it's possible with what we know gravitational surgebinding could do. In order for friction to allow you to climb sheer surfaces, there would need to be some force, no matter how slight, between you and the surface. A 90-degree or greater angled surface would be impossible to climb as she would just fall off. This is because while she is manipulating the coefficient of friction, in order for this to actual produce a force of friction, a normal force must be applied. The air molecules would just move out of the way. Too much empty space and nothing would be preventing them from moving out of the way of the object. Friction is a fairly negligible factor when considering buoyancy and drag in liquids or gasses. It's really only a consideration between two solid objects as far as I know.
  22. It's probably actually just that, and the kandra tell their contractors that they can be detected by inquisitors without giving specific details. Kelsier didn't seem to know how they could be detected anyways, just the knowledge that they wouldn't pass muster.
  23. No, Nale says that the Shin people revere the spirits of stone, but worship the Heralds. Also, the first line from Nale indicates that he is referring to the gods of the Shin religion, not Szeth's personal gods.
  24. The Heralds are the Shin gods though. Also, no one considers the Heralds to be traitors, only the Knights Radiant.
  25. Good point. Forgot about that.
