  1. A third letter segment has been confirmed for Oathbringer.
  2. No, it's visions from the Almighty and the future. Basically, from the sounds of it, anything that approaches supernatural inspiration is bad because it reminds them of the Hierocracy.
  3. It would be very suspicious if it was revealed that Taravangian had a non-ardent soulcaster working for him. It's also possible and likely that the guy simply wasn't there at the time. The guy seemed like a field agent so he's probably out of Kharabanth a lot.
  4. Probably different cracks. This is assuming that turning into a mistborn even requires the use of cracks. It might just bypass that entirely by creating the connection to Preservation itself, instead of allomancy using the cracks of snapping in order for the connection to Preservation to form. I doubt also that lerasium would be able to remove any underlying structure, following the intent of Preservation to maintain what is already in place. Nonetheless, I like your idea that a spren might be able to sense the flow of investiture form Preservation and somehow tap into it.
  5. I've always read that as Renarin being ready to take the attack, and Relis hesitating because he was a good enough person that he didn't want to kill someone who wasn't fighting back or even a political threat. My opinion is that it wasn't anything magical stopping him. She says later that she saw a Cryptic at the fight, so she noticed Pattern. Since she never mentioned seeing another spren, I'm assuming she's didn't notice Glys. This is true, but I'm doubtful of this as it's said by other people, including ardents, that visions in general are considered to be related to voidbinding by vorinism. I believe it's later stated that he froze up in the fight because of his shardblade screaming in his mind. He wasn't actually having a fit, just terrified at the sound of unparalleled agony in his head.
  6. Some new details about the Souther Scadrian medallions just came in, along with confirmation that we will get an explanation of their creation in TLM, and if that isn't detailed enough, he'll give us the full flowchart technical explanation.
  7. This is a storming beautiful set of WoBs. Confirms things I've thought for awhile.
  8. Oh, you wouldn't be retrieving stormlight in this method I thought. You would be retrieving the feruchemical charge and using its investiture to power surgebinding, instead of increasing your physical strength like it would normally do when tapped.
  9. So you're saying use the feruchemical charge to power the surgebinding? That's possible, though once again, it would require some hacking of the systems to make work. Sorry, I got a bit confused because I thought we were still talking about the stormlight storage trick.
  10. I think this is still the best guide we have.
  11. So pewter feruchemy then to store the extra physical strength? That's possible, but then I don't see how you would be able to power surgebinding with it.
  12. Operating on the assumption that you can store stormlight using nicrosil feruchemy, which I personally doubt, this could be viable. In any case, should it be possible, I don't think you would lose stormlight, as feruchemy doesn't store the attribute directly as it is, but rather converts it to a feruchemical charge which knows what attribute to become when tapped. From there, it could be possible to compound stormlight. Like I said though, I don't think this is actually possible as my opinion is that you can't store stormlight with nicrosil. Brandon has RAFOed a question on compounding stormlight and breath.
  13. Well he said that most of the magics can be powered with other magics so that feel like pretty solid confirmation.
  14. Hmm. I thought there was one which says so, but all I could find were implications. Here's one though that says you can surgebind with breath, so close enough I guess.
  15. The following is entirely my opinion based on the few WoBs and other information on the subject. The way I see it is that most manifestations of investiture are designed to use a specific form of investiture to power itself. Awakening uses breath, surgebinding and fabrials use stormlight, AonDor used the Dor, and allomancy uses Preservation's power. However, at its root, all forms of investiture are just investiture. This is shown with Nightblood, as it just desires investiture, irrespective of its form. While each manifestation of investiture desires to using a specific form of investiture, it is possible to use a different form of investiture to power it. This is primarily seen with compounding on Scadrial, using the power of Preservation to fuel feruchemy, a power normally fuelled by the user's own investiture. Therefore, it should be possible to fuel any system with any type of investiture, as indicated by the WoB which confirms that it is possible to awaken using stormlight surgebind using breath (though awakening with stormlight has been implied). However, it is fairly likely that to do so, hacking the process of a magic using another magic, is a fairly difficult proces usually. While compounding does appear to be easy, it is likely an exception due to the close ties between allomancy and feruchemy. Therefore, I would say that it is theoretically possible to fuel surgebinding with allomantic power, but it would not be easy, and possibly not practical. tl;dr: Possible? Yes. Easy and practical? Probably not.
  16. The surges are naturally paired together, which manifest as the surge binding pairs granted by the Honorblades and the nahel bond.
  17. Nightblood isn't actually reducing the amount of Investiture in the Cosmere. https://www.reddit.com/r/brandonsanderson/comments/3wtis8/new_wob_finite_amount_of_investiture/
  18. That's right, assuming it is mindless destruction is probably not correctly. The writers of the blurbs on the back indicate there's a possibility that the 4500 year gap may be partially intentional, giving time for civilization to forget how to fight a Desolation. If that's true, then being able to intentionally destroy key pieces of civilization wouldn't be too far-fetched.
  19. Yeah, Ishar has something going on.
  20. All Brandon has told us is that the medallions, and presumably the bands by extension, somehow trick the spiritual of the holder to make it seem like they have a power they don't actually have. Whether this is some inherent property of nicrosil feruchemy or some additional process added is unknown. Brandon's last statement leads me to believe that it's some additional process, though others think otherwise.
  21. Here's something. I'll get the source tomorrow.
  22. Spren, as cognitive entities associated with a location, cannot easily travel away from the location they are connected to. While it is possible to do so, it requires some work to make it happen, so if Jasnah had gone to Scadrial, that means she would've likely have had to leave Ivory behind, therefore abandoning her surgebinding powers as well.
  23. The Highprince above Shallan's family had a bastard son who had heterochromia lighteye and darkeye. He appeared relatively early on in the flashbacks.
  24. Children of two lighteyes are lighteye. Children of two darkeyes are darkeye. The children of a lighteye and a darkeye can be lighteye, darkeye, or heterochromia lighteye and darkeye. Genetics on Roshar are a bit different.
  25. Shardplate being invested to prevent the removal of the stormlight doesn't make much sense since trying to breath in the stormlight isn't an investiture-based action really. Anyhow, there is a WoB, but I've been unable to find it. Anyhow, I wouldn't be so quick to say that shardplate doesn't key to people just because you can swap pieces between people. It's probably a lot more narrow whereby it's keyed to the person who is wearing the specific piece, that's why they conform the wearer, not some other person who "owns" the greater set.
