Brandon's new writing schedule, announced on his blog
Ammanas replied to Unknowingly's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Well, I think Brandon is popular enough, and has reached the Rothfuss/Martin level of stardom that he can do whatever he wants and the publishers just have to deal with it. Brandom just believes in finding a balance of giving fans what they want, writing what he wants to write, and writing because he genuinely enjoys it.- 12 replies

So I consider "classic" to mean anything written before 1900. I'm curious what everyones favorites are. I will give you mine, but please consider that I am not big on artistic style, influence, etc. I just love a good story. 1. War and Peace by Tolstoy (Briggs translation) This book has a unfair reputation of being a long snoozer of a book, but nothing is further from the the truth. It is a beautiful, exciting story. 2. Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas (Buss translation)- Classic tale of revenge and adventure. 3. The Decameron by Boccaccio (I have read both the Musa and Mcwilliam translation. I give the slight edge to Mcwilliam for the helpful notes in the penguin classics version)- So it seems that english speakers rave about the Canterbury Tales, but the author of that book stole the idea from Boccacio and the Decameron is a better book. It is about 10 rich young Italians that leave the city during the plague and amuse themselves telling stories. It takes place over 10 days each telling one story a day (so 100 total). Most days have a particular theme and almost all of them are good.

So I don't know if this has been addressed anywhere so I thought to ask the experts on the shard! Is there a God in mythology etc. the most closely resembles Adolnalsium? I do not think it is a Judeo-Christian God, based on this w.o.b: "but that assumes Adonalsium is a more Christian-style God, and I have not confirmed any of that." http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=1153

I imagine they will be roughly the same length as The Reckoners books so yes.

For major releases especially, like Oathbringer surely is, the audiobook is released the same day as the book. I have not heard anything from Krammer and Reading, but I am not concerned....they do not update too often. I would count on being able to listen to the book on November 14.

Right on schedule: June–August: Apocalypse Guard One (Fall 2018 Release) Early September: Legion 3 (Sometime 2018 Release) Late September–December: Apocalypse Guard Two (Mid 2019 Release) Late December: Random Novella

@Orlion On a Cob If you like little, dense, cruel works might I suggest Jack London? He writes some great stories and I think you would like his book The Sea-Wolf. It is about a literary critic, used to a soft cushy life, finds is washed overboard and picked up by a nihilism spouting tyrant of a captain.

What do you think of it? Also, I have heard some people say that Golding's best book is The Spire (which I have not read). Agree or disagree?

Brandon's new writing schedule, announced on his blog
Ammanas replied to Unknowingly's topic in General Brandon Discussion
What I don't understand is how Wax and Wayne #4 is a Fall 2019 release. If he finishes on schedule in July 2018 is usually takes about 6 months of edits for a book like that. That would mean a December 2018 or early 2019 release. So I am disappointed by that and a lack of cosmere content. I also appreciate Brandon for all he has done for fans and his transparency. I am willing to cut him some slack and enjoy whatever he feels like writing.- 12 replies

So are there any books do you know of where the Author's preferred edition makes a huge difference for you? I was thinking about this question while reading James Clavell's King Rat. The new edition includes p.o.v's of the women of the soldiers in the p.o.w camp. I am divided on the inclusion of these sections bc I think that, while they are interesting, it does diminish the pacing of the book. The only book that comes to mind where the the expanded edition is a big improvement is Magician by Feist. I believe the expanded version of Milamber's view from the tower enhances the book. How about you?

People who doesn't like Brandons books
Ammanas replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Well I can go along with the spirit of the thread and say how I originally disliked a Sanderson book and how ended up loving it. For Way of Kings it originally really bothered me that nothing happened in the story. Kaladin was going on bridge run after bridge run and Shallan spent her entire time doodling and worrying about a soul caster. I actually switched to audiobook and focused on world building rather than plot and now Stormlight Archives is one of my favorite series! For Words of Radiance I got really annoyed that when the slave caravan picked up Shallan that the master was bowing and scrapping to her when they were in the middle of nowhere. That's not realistic. I thought why didn't the master throw her to his men to have their way with her and slit her throat? My next thought was: that's pretty dark and twisted. Perhaps I have been reading too many "grimdark" books. One thing I enjoy about Sanderson books is the sense of optimism in it. Its also nice to escape from the real world into a "better place" (yes I know Roshar still has its problems). So anyways what were originally perceived of as flaws became strengths! -
Did you see that commercial that makes fun of every horror film? I will include it below. Its one of my favorites!

Well there are two ways that you can look at the movie adaption and it goes along with how you look at life. Either you can live in fear or faith. I try my best to live my life with the latter.

It's a moot point anyway regarding Sanderson finishing ASOIAF. If anything happens it will be Daniel Abraham for the following reasons: 1. He is part of Santa Fe writing club of which Martin is a member. 2. He is good friends with Martin 3. He wrote the ASOIAF comic book adaption 4. He is a tremendous talent. Better than Martin in my opinion 5. I'm almost positive that Martin has said Abraham would finish it, but can't rememver where I have read that 6. They have already collaborated on a novel together (Hunter's Run)

So not necessarily your favorite author, but which three authors have you read the most? Rereads do not count; so if you have read Way of Kings 30 times it still only counts as one. For me: 1. Glen Cook- I own and have read everything he has written, some several times, (except for one that he wrote under a another name and is impossible to find). I have long ceased been able to write a unbiased review of his works. His style is not for everyone, but I feel he writes with a honesty and realism that is refreshing. I believe it is 52 books plus short stories. 2. Raymond E. Feist- when people ask for recommendations I usually avoid this name unless they are brand new to fantasy. I fell in love with the Riftwar series as a boy and can easily overlook the flaws this series accumulated as it progressed. I still will pick up a book in the series, when I want something light, and happy. 21 books 3. Brandon Sanderson- I have read everything in print by him (except for Alcatraz and WoT). Unless I miscounted 15 books Edit I forgot about Jim Butcher. I guess he would knock Sanderson out of the top three with 16 books

Hopefully this hasn't been mentioned before, but there will be a new Song of Ice and Fire story released this October! It will be in the same style as the ones found in Rogues and Dangerous Women anthologies and is written as in-world accounts of some of the key events in the turbulent reign of the Targaryens. This entry covers the years of Aegon the Conqueror's successors: intellectual, beloved, yet indecisive Aenys and his half-brother, the dynamic and cruel Maegor. It will be part of The Book of Swords anthology edited by Dozois.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but where are all the Shardblades?
Ammanas replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think that some have been lost and some are being stockpiled by the various secret societies (Ghostbloods, Sons of Honor etc) and smaller kingdoms to use as a ace up their sleeve.- 49 replies

@AngelEy3 Curly Grapes Crunchy Capulet (I like Tybalt) You know I watched a very interesting documentary on that feud several years ago, but have forgotten everything about that feud. I will say Mccoys based solely on the sound of the name. Blackfyre Jets Rolling Stones (I'm not a huge fan, but really like the song Paint it Black) Romulans Separtists (the republic had many issues and it was only a matter of time before it fell apart). Nice Kings of the Wyld reference! I am a old school kind of guy so my answer is Saga!

A soldier came running into camp after going to see the prostitutes. He was white in the face. His friends asked if he had a good time. He said that he had not. They asked why. He said that when he asked how much the woman charged, she said one mark plus the tip. He told his friends that he hadn't realized they were charging body parts now.

Wish Me Luck: For Sharders beginning something new
Ammanas replied to Jondesu's topic in General Discussion
@Eternum Best of luck! In my culture its usually just a formality. Usually after dating for awhile you both have a talk about where the relationship is going and if you both want marriage, which is usually the case, approximately how long the courtship will last. I can't imagine going into a proposal thinking that there is a possibility they will say "no"! Hope it all works out! -
Last I heard he finally got all of his distractions out of the way, and his life settled, so he can finally finish the dang thing. I expect swift progress and completion by the end of the year. Fingers crossed!

Not sure if the question was rhetorical, but I look at more of as celebrating what you have accomplished thus far and the lives you have touched.

Favorite Gregorian chant? Pineapples on Pizza? If you could live in any sci-fi fantasy world which would be?
