I still think that he should of stuck with his plan of book 4 taking place 15 years later than the end of book 3. Sadly one of my favorite authors (Daniel Abraham) convinced him to split books 4 and 5 by characters thus creating a bunch of timeline issues that took him a long time to figure out. I think most of the lengthy delays between books comes from that ill fated decision.

So I saw this interesting article a while back about authors famous for a book/series when they have written a better one: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/books/2011/jul/19/famous-wrong-book-vonnegut-waugh-ishiguro and was wondering if there were any others people wanted to share. Here is mine Ray Bradbury is famous for Farenheit 451, but I believe the Martian Chronicles are better Steven Erikson is most famous for Memories of Ice, but I feel Midnight Tides is his best one Iain M.Banks is most famous for Use of Weapons or Player of Games but I feel Surface Detail is his best one Glen Cook- most people only recognize his name for The Black Company series, but I feel Instrumentalities of the Night is his best.

Nothing like a great book title to catch a reader's attention. What are some of your? Mine are the following: Glen Cook usually has a awesome title here of some of my favorites of his- Reap the East Wind, The Fire in His Hands, With Mercy Towards None, A Shadow of All Night Falling, The Heirs of Babylon, and Surrender to the Will of Night I also think The Crippled God, Farenheit 451, The Lies of Locke Lamora, Calaban's War from different authors are good as well.

I keep hearing that, but I was just done at that point. I did read summaries of the rest to see how it ended. In my opinion this series could of been a all time great if he stuck with, what I believe was the original plan, six books only. So many descriptions and storylines could of been left out to give the series better pacing. I hope I don't come across as too negative; like I said everyone should give it a try and form their own opinion.

I can't justify spending my own money on it (based on the quality of the first), but I still want it. I asked my wife to get it for me as Christmas or anniversary gift. I think it was a good compromise.

The series had great potential, but has some series flaws I couldn't look past and I gave up around book 10. I recommend reading it until its not fun and forming your own opinion. Then again it appears we have very different tastes in books, bc I loved Gardens of the Moon and found The Faithful and the Fallen series to be very pedestrian.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

I was looking up some of the stuff he wrote besides Lord of the Flies. Pincher Martin, The Inheritors, and The Paper Man look of most interest to me. In what order would you rank those three books? -
People who doesn't like Brandons books
Ammanas replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Most people seem to love the unreliable narrator. It certainly seems to be working for the Kingkiller Chronicles and countless other form of entertainment. Oh well, as the say, "des gustibus non est disputandum" -
I am curious if your experience has been that way in either of three circumstances: 1. Going to College. 2. You live outside the United States. 3. You attend a private school. Because it been my experience going through high school and even being a teacher the the instructors have given up providing education in junior high and high school u.s. state provided education. Teachers pretend to teach, students pretend to learn and everyone gets passed so they receive a useless High Scool diploma. Teachers are tired of fighting insane parents and being told by the principle they cannot fail anyone bc it looks bad for their numbers.

It must be a regional thing because in the south everytime it came up people always say care-a-mel.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Ammanas replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You promised yourself that you were not going to torture yourself by reading the sample chapters and just wait until November 14. But you are so weak that your resolve lasted just short of two weeks. I blame seeing Oathbringer ch 1-3 in my recent post feed. It just kept calling to me... -
And don't try to create a dummy account for the purpose of giving yourself upvotes. Chaos is like the eye of Sauron and sees through such ploys and permanently bans people for such actions. On a happier note- Welcome to the Shard! Hope to see you around!

Is there any thing in Stormlight you don't like?
Ammanas replied to ICanDream's topic in Stormlight Archive
With anything you can nitpick little details. I think for me the biggest issue is pacing; for such a huge book not a lot is done to move the plot forward. I think the humor could use a little work as well. -
As a Denver Broncos fan this is how I feel about Brock Osweiler coming back after stinking it up in Houston and Cleveland:

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Ammanas replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
For a few days after I read a particularly good line and then I forget, because I don't have the best memory. I really need to carry around flashcards or a cheat sheet with Sanderson quotes to bust them out on the right occasion -
Mine is the greatest hidden camera gag ever in my opinion. Its from the tv show Scare Tactics. It's not scary to watch...just funny. What's yours?

Lessons we learn from Brandon's books
Ammanas replied to Rebecca's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Yes, thank you. Your comment brought Szeth immediately to mind. -
@Nathrangking thanks for the attempted answer. Judging by the lack of responses it seems like this question has not been addressed by Brandon. I will ask him this question next time I see him if he tours near by.

Lessons we learn from Brandon's books
Ammanas replied to Rebecca's topic in General Brandon Discussion
To a certain extent yes. But Brandon also makes the point of if it is not religion people will use anything to abuse power. Look at Taravangion. His excuse is the unfettered human intelligence of a single day. Look what he has done. Look at high lord Sadeas. Just my two cents. Thank you for your comments I hope I do not come off as argumentative, buy only wishing to offer a differing opinion. -
Is Brandon ever going to come to Australia?
Ammanas replied to Lightwalker's topic in Events and Signings
My crystal ball says...yes! But it will be many moons... -
Have you read GRRM's Dreamsongs? Some of those stories were pretty good. Tuf Voyaging was also kind of fun even if it's a bit dated.

Lessons we learn from Brandon's books
Ammanas replied to Rebecca's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Oh there are so many. Forgive any spelling mistakes. I am big on audiobooks: 1. Don't try to force things that are meant to be. Example: Dalinar trying to create the Knights Radiant with Amaram. 2. How to deal with people suffering from depression. Example: Raoden with Galladen 3. How to overcome weakness. Example: The way Dalinar lives to avoid being the man he was. 4. Leadership. Example Kaladin gaining the trust of Bridge 4. 5. Interpretation of events. Example: Jasnah/scholars and many others are so confident they know everything, but we as the reader know they have no idea what's really going on in the cosmere. It is a warning against arrogance of you assuming too much. 6. "Read the small print". Ex. Words of Radiance very tiny spoiler I could go on, but these are a few
