Another good song for me. The band described it as thus: “Basically the song is about fighting your inner demons. Trying to change and become a better person in life. I write songs to reflect where I’m at in life, and this song is me saying to the world that I’m doing my absolute best right now to be a good person.”

Came across the expression "loaded for bear" while reading today. I think I have only heard that used maybe two times in my entire life. I like the expression and will try to use it more.

@Dunkum Where are you at with Lightbringer? I am currently over halfway through with The Broken Eye.
-
Oh and I don't know if this was clear or not, but its rare even for people of that generation to say and believe such things. I have only heard it myself maybe two times in my entire life.
-
It's so much easier to depict people you don't understand as demons rather than trying to understand them. I'd say it its more of something that is believed and taught by people two generations above me. I have not heard people say such things that are below the age of say 50 years.

From the website: If you are writing to request White Sand orAether of Night we are no longer distributing those via email. White Sand is being sent via a link in the newsletters we occasionally send out to subscribers. Aether of Night can be requested at The 17th Shard. https://brandonsanderson.com/contact/

For those curious of where the ARC's of Oathbringer are going I found one reviewer that received one. I sometimes disagree with this particular site, but its a good one to help keep your finger on the pulse of SFF community. I didn't know where to put this so I decided on this page. Here is the link: https://bibliosanctum.com/2017/10/07/mogsys-bookshelf-roundup-stacking-the-shelves-recent-reads-46/

I think all those conspiracy theories about Jews controlling the economy comes from two things. 1. In the medieval ages basically only profession Jews were allowed to have was money lending (declared unclean) by the Catholic church and were barred from other jobs. 2. A good portion of the worlds banks are controlled by one family the Rothschild (who are Jewish). Although the respected Neil Ferguson points out: As we have seen, however, wars tended to hit the price of existing bonds by increasing the risk that a debtor state would fail to meet its interest payments in the event of defeat and losses of territory. By the middle of the 19th century, the Rothschilds had evolved from traders into fund managers, carefully tending to their own vast portfolio of government bonds. Now having made their money, they stood to lose more than they gained from conflict. The Rothschilds had decided the outcome of the Napoleonic Wars by putting their financial weight behind Britain. Now they would sit on the sidelines. Now, to be clear, I do not believe in Jewish conspiracy theories...I just think its interesting to see where ideas came from and how/why they change. I have never heard of the horn thing though for Jews...that is new for me. Ironically people of my own religion have been accused of having horns though.

Thanks for confirming that. Has there been any word on the pictures that will be on the interior of the physical book like the one of Shallan painting? Or is that all hush hush not to be revealed until November 14?

Oh I am, but I have been getting into the discussion on breaking down the dust jacket. Thanks for remembering that though...I feel oddly very good that someone would commit such a small detail like that to memory about myself. I guess there is a risk on me being on this thread, but although I don't go looking for spoilers, these books have always been about the journey than the destination for me.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When Brandon tweets out a picture of the final Oathbringer dust jacket and we have five different threads dedicated to it and the same picture on multiple other threads. -
I think that what we are looking at is not a usual dust jacket, but one that was created for this picture. You can see Oathbringer coming through barely in the bottom left corner. What this tells me is that this will be, I believe, a unprecedented dust jacket with illustrations on the outside and inside. The outside being the picture with Jasnah we are all familiar with and the inside being a map. I think the picture above was created so we could see it all at once and not in two pictures. Just my thoughts though...let me know if anyone feels differently. Now you could get a picture like that in the indide of the physical book like the one in WoR with Shallan painting.

Steven Erikson. Most famous for writing The Malazan Book of the Fallen series. It's ten books for the main series plus lots of spinoffs and prequels.

I had a friend mistake wasabi for pistachio pudding. I "forgot" to correct his error. Evidently people mistaking wasabi for other foods happens more than one would think.

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Ammanas replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
Or converted to Sanderson currency $75=3 Oathbringers. Congrats by the way; I once took a Calculus class and the entire time I was there is felt like a albatross around my neck -
This is the first time I have ever heard of publishers printing illustrations on the inside of the dust jacket. They are really going the extra mile on this release!

Its my understanding they are a kind of mixture of Asian and Pacific Islanders. But the pictures I form in my minds eye are always really vague so I never really have a clear picture for any books characters.

@AliasSheep After you finish Hydrogen Sonata you might want to give Against a Dark Background a try. I believe its is strongest non culture book.
-
Glad you like it! Whenever I hear complaints about it I always want to ask, "Are you sure you are reading Grace of Kings by Ken Liu. Because that book is awesome!"
-
A lot of fans look over this one, but I feel its one of his strongest Culture books. Enjoy! My three favorites are Surface Detail, Player of Games and Hydrogen Sonata.

Just finished Blackwing by Ed Mcdonald. I was impressed by this opening book and recommend it (especially for Black Company fans). I think everyone one will be hearing more about this book, from various book bloggers, in the near future.

I thought it was a little odd myself, but I have read it twice and can't remember that oddity taking away any enjoyment. I wouldn't think about it too much. The cardinal directions don't play a major role in the story.
