Currently on Cold Iron by Leicht and I am puzzled how a book I enjoyed two years ago can be so "meh" on a reread. I will have to go the library route on the sequel now. I reread books all the time and cannot remember such a drastic change.

I am not sure if this counts as a spoiler, but will include one just in case. From mistborn era 2

Its both good and bad. The bad-not going near my area this time around. The good-it's not too many stops. Honestly I don't want him spending a lot of time touring. I want him focused on writing.

Awesome! I was thinking this thread was dead, so thanks! Here is my salsa recipe: Ingredients 1 lb of Roma tomatoes 2 Serrano Peppers (or use jalapeños if you cant find or want less spice. I leave half of the seeds in, but you take all the seeds out if you want less spice) 1 cup of cilantro leaves 3 cloves of garlic (I buy the pre minced kind. If you go this route 1 clove=1 tsp using as little juice as possible) 1/2 of a regular sized onion (white or yellow) Juice from 1/2 lime 2 Tbs of chile powder 2 tsp of salt (ajust based on taste) 1 tsp of sugar Directions use a food processor to blend all ingredients (except salt and sugar) until smooth. Stir in salt and sugar (I did this originally bc I wanted to ajust these last two ingredients, but I guess its just tradition that I keep doing it. I want to give credit where it is due so this is the base of my recipe (I have made some ajustments) http://www.homesicktexan.com/2006/09/when-life-gives-you-tomatoes.html?m=1 I don't know if you will see this thread in your feed, but please share that cake recipe when you get the chance @Flash

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When some speaks condescendingly to you and your response is, "You have no idea the storm you have wandered into." -WoR ch 15 -
I am watching, in my opinion, the three greatest westerns ever made: A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly. What a great combination of Sergio Leone's unique directing, Morconne's music, and Clint Eastwood's acting.

Do you you have a library where you are at? If the author is a huge name I usually try to be one of the first to reserve a copy and buy the paperback. I usually only buy books (on the day of release) if they are one of my favorites or I feel they are a less well known author (and needs all the help they can get with sales the the publisher will keep ordering more books).

If you like delightfully profane you should give Joe Abercrombie a try if you haven't already. The first book in the series is The Blade Itself.

I guess I am so out of the loop that I didn't even know you could play online...I only have played the physical game with family and such. I will think about signing up online and let you know. What version of Ticket to Ride is your favorite? I really like the 1910 expansion on the original and the European edition is fun too (although it is a little difficult locating some cities bc they go by names that no one uses anymore). I have not played any others so perhaps there are better ones out there that I have not had that chance to play.

Give me/us a update if he reads from Thorn of Emberlain please. I have heard mixed reaction from fans when he does readings from it (have not heard any myself) so I am interested in your take!
-
So you don't have to answer if the question is to personal or p.m. if you want, but if one suffers from depression isn't it more incentive to read? It is one of the things that helps me; just the ability to escape into a entirely new world for a time and escape from real life. Perhaps everyone copes differently...sorry if this is too nosy of a question.

I don't feel anger...only pity. -
Always cool to see another Lynch fan! Lies of Locke Lamora is one of my all time favorites! It's a shame that, in my opinion, this series is heading in the wrong direction and each book that comes after is a little worse than the preceding one. Still Lynch at his worst is better than many authors at their best. Really hoping that this is the year for Thorn of Emberlain!

Spilling my Guts (because I forgot to before)
Ammanas replied to Taeshi Vei's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Welcome! The people on the 17th shard are some of the most welcoming out there and what you consider each of us trying to prove we are the "biggest fan" I think is each of us trying to convince the others of the "correct" interpretation of information; it all seems to be in good fun in my opinion. I went to the univerity in Rexburg for several years and graduated; I have mostly good memories. You seem somewhat embarrassed in having several personalities? I think everyone is like that to one degree or another (although I have not given them names ). You seem like a nice enough person; I hope you stick around and keep posting on the shard!- 21 replies

You are watching Avatar the Last Airbender television show and notice they have Tai-na (that for some reason they keep referring to as a Lion Turtle). -
The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!

This is a follow-up to a previous post, but my signed first edition from one of my favorite authors (Brian Lee Durfee) arrived today! -
I really like The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu read by Michael Krammer. If you go the audiobook route you need to download a map for free online. The author jumps around the continent a lot but it is a excellent book. Nick Poedehl does a amazing job making the king killer chronicles come alive. I also love The Dresden Files audiobooks narrated by James Marsters (the first three books are ok, but from 4 onwards it is amazing)

Well, I don't know if I can recommend the audiobooks bc the author reads most of her works and she doesn't have the most exciting voice. Maybe you can look past it? I really liked: 1. A History of God (her most famous book) 2. Fields of Blood (I am not quite sure if I believe in all of her ideas in this one, but I think her ideas were well presented and gave a unique outlook I haven't really heard expressed much elsewhere)

@Leiasqz Since you seem interested by world religions have you ever heard of Mithraism? Not much is known about it and, although I am very happy with my current religion, I always thought I would fit in well with Mithraism. One of my favorite things is the seven degrees of initiation: Raven, Bridegroom, Soldier, Lion, Persian, Sun-Runner, and Father. Also have you ever read any books by Karen Armstrong? I think she brings a unique perspective to religion.

I would be interested in a list of general personality attributes and the Sanderson book that matches it (if you are willing to put forth the effort for such a project). -
Most Overrated Character

Oh I liked this one. I was just saying in general when you post stuff. I had the same thoughts about Renarin, but couldn't put it into words like you did. -

@maxal very insightful comments regarding Renarin. Even when I disagree with your comments it seems like you usually have unique, well thought out ideas that are, at times, a breath a fresh air. Keep up the good work! -
