  1. Very true! Another way of putting it is: Person 1: You want answers?Person 2: I think I'm entitled to them. Person 1: You want answers?Person 2 I want the truth! Person 1: You can't handle the truth!
  2. Never start watching Once Upon the Time in the West right before bedtime. I discovered last night that the dang harmonica music kept spinning through my mind while I was trying to fall asleep
  3. @maxal Thanks for the insight! Also apologies for my original post that started all the cover controversy. I feel it was worthwhile to mention and have a possible conversation about, but it seems like things got heated. Personally I lean more towards your view of things, but can see the reasoning of other perspectives.
  4. He certainly had the most character development. Raoden started out as a optimistic young man and that continued throughout. Serene was a precocious young lady the pushed social norms and that didn't chage. Still love the book though!
  5. It's funny how different parts of his writing speak more strongly to some than others. I really enjoyed Hrathen's storyline. I guess partly bc he reminds me a little of myself and other people that I know.
  6. @Draginon Sorry you had a bad experience there. I can that it was not a good fit. Hopefully you are in place where you fit in better now! Everyone should be around people that make them feel happy. Just avoid the south and Utah...I personally would be very happy living in both, but can see how it would drive other people insane!
  7. My favorite word to use to sound pretentious? It is "jejune". I almost want to slap myself after using it
  8. I'm curious did you come from a small town? I had a different experience living in Dallas. I love the south...currently living in a state (Colorado) that is gorgeous even if I do not mesh well with the general attitude and values of its citizens.
  9. So is Brandon completing the proofread of Oathbringer or is he leaving that up to his team? I noticed it popped up on his web page.
  10. I took mine with a Samsung galaxy if that helps...don't know anything about iphones.
  11. Great! I thought this thread would get more traffic so I am glad another is willing to share.
  12. In my opinion Shadows of Self is the strongest of the three. I really liked the musings on God and why bad things are allowed to happen and doesn't take a more seen role in our lives. My personal favorite part is: "But the powers that I am, the essence of my self, cannot allow me yo take sides. Already I fear that I have made things too easy for men. This city, the perfect climate, the ground that renews … You were to have had the radio a century ago, but you didn’t need it, so you didn’t strive for it. You ignore aviation, and cannot tame the wilds because you don’t care to study proper irrigation or fertilization. “The … radio? What is that?” You don’t explore, Harmony continued, ignoring Wax’s confusion. Why would you? You have everything you want here. You’ve barely progressed technologically from what I gave you in the books. Yet others, who were nearly destroyed …"
  13. That comment was the entertainment...sorry I am not feeling very witty at the moment so that's the best I got.
  14. The Shard is dead. But I'll see what I can do.
  15. Apologies if asked you this already. I can't remember if it was you or some ones else. Out of curiosity did you have to wait a long time for book 3? My idea on the fans that hate the book is: they waiting a long time and it couldn't live up to their lofty expectations. The fans, like me, that consider it a drop in quality, but still worthwhile are the ones that had a minimal or no wait. Either way I still respect your opinion to feel however you want about any book.
  16. So if I understand things correctly Brandon is writing all three Apocalypse Guard books at once now. Does that mean the 13% done on his website mean that percentage for the first book of the trilogy or all three books?
  17. I am a big fan of the Gentleman Bastards. The first book (The Lies of Locke Lamora) is one of my all time favorites and can be read as a stand alone. Each book after is a little worse than the previous one (three so far) but they are still high quality books in my opinion. A concern about the author, which you might be aware of, is that he takes a long time to publish a book. I think the third took about 6 years and we are going on about 5 for the 4th one. I don't want to berate the author though bc it sounds like he's going through a lot.
  18. Welcome! Where did you serve?
  19. @Silverblade5I like it! My favorite song, thats along the same lines, is the Soviet National Anthem
  20. Indeed! I'm now thinking more along the lines of concentric circles. Nice Shrek reference!
  21. The 17th shard (sitting in chairs formed in a circle) responds with a many voiced, almost monitone, "Hi Calderis."
  22. You could use the Tor reread as a resource for both books. In depth analysis and summary for every chapter. http://www.tor.com/features/series/the-way-of-kings-reread-on-torcom/
  23. This is sounds like a huge product that you are not even getting paid for. I appreciate all the work being done even if it isn't that much.
  24. I know there were a few small changes to WoR, but I am referring to the bigger change of the Szeth/Kaladin showdown. I know there were previous threads about this, but no poll. Personally it feels to me a little like George Lucas changing the Han Solo shot first scene. It is not a big deal to me though. Here is a link to refresh anyones memory: https://brandonsanderson.com/three-stories-in-new-formats/
  25. If you go to Pikes Peak be sure to take the train up. Unless you are a adrenaline junkie, and if thats the case, you can drive up the mountain; I have never done it but I have made a similar drive of narrow roads, limited visibility, and the lane ends (on the side) with a straight drop off a cliff.
