I see them as being united in the same purpose rather than friends. It's not specified, but its just the general feeling I get from the two w.o.b. I will include: Was the shattering of Adonalsium done, for the forces to attack the Anti-Adonalsium? BRANDON SANDERSON You’re focusing too much on the idea of the anti-adonalsium. What was really asked is “is there a force that opposes Adonalsium” and it left me a lot of wiggle room. In other words, the people who killed it was a force, or any person who opposed Adonalsium you could say is a force. What they were trying to get was a “devil” but that assumes Adonalsium is a more Christian-style God, and I have not confirmed any of that. And QUESTION I’m _____ ____ Adonalsium. Out of the people that were leftover from just before the Breaking, did they think it was a good idea or a bad idea? BRANDON SANDERSON Opinions are mixed. QUESTION Is it mixed between vessels and non-vessels? BRANDON SANDERSON Most of the vessels support the decision that they made. I would say of those remaining, who are not vessels, the majority think it was a bad idea. I would say ____ it’s not 100% http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=1153

At the firing range you make everyone refer to you as "Dawnshot" -
The books can be read on several different levels. One of the deeper meanings is one of the Cosmere and the greater happenings that occur within it. There are small clues in the books that some gather upon rereads or upon asking Brandon Sanderson at signings, tours etc (we call them Words of Brandon). If you are confused about these terms, and don't mind spoilers, I recommend visiting the coppermind. http://coppermind.net/wiki/Coppermind:Welcome You can look at the annotations to see where the primary source is. So to answer your question no you are not dense. Some of Brandons fans are ignorant of the cosmere and thats ok. We are just ultra nerds and enjoy this stuff. I hope you don't take this as a insult, but perhaps one could say that you are not the most perceptive reader. That sounds incredibly pompous, so perhaps there is a better word. I'm also not always the most perceptive. There are times that somone on this website will say something that goes completely over my head too! Anyways enjoy the Shard!

@Hood Joe Abercrombie has just as much sarcasm. I also love the The Lies of Locke Lamora! It's my favorite of the series with the other two that are out also being very good. @AngelEy3 I think its a fair question that I will give my opinion on. Here is the thing: LDS people speaking collective are very uncomfortable with sex being portrayed in movies, books, etc. It is something thats only talked about between a man and wife. Why that is, and some problems it potentially causes, is a long digression. They are o.k. with violence, but also feel uncomfortable with bad language. It's hard for many LDS readers to find high quality books that don't have at least a little bit language or innuendo. The story may be apocryphal, but I heard that even Sanderson got upbraided during church, by a member, for a scene on warbreaker! I personally have had a member express concerns to me about Wayne's crudeness in Bands of Morning.

So this isn't really a theory, but more of a observation. It seems that Sanderson feels very strongly that inventors are overrated because we look past all the people that that either created the stepping stones for their achievement or we overlook all the other people that were working on the same idea in different parts of the world and just missed out on getting it out first. Perhaps he is also saying the impotant events that happen in society is based upon the Zeitgeist of the particular era and not through the solitary actions of individuals? My evidence for this in Shadows of Self Ch 10 where the girl accosted Wayne (in disguise) for stealing her fathers invention and taking credit for it. Also the end of Way of Kings: "In this, as in all things, our actions give us away. If an artist creates a work of powerful beauty—using new and innovative techniques—she will be lauded as a master, and will launch a new movement in aesthetics. Yet what if another, working independently with that exact level of skill, were to make the same accomplishments the very next month? Would she find similar acclaim? No. She’d be called derivative. Intellect. If a great thinker develops a new theory of mathematics, science, or philosophy, we will name him wise. We will sit at his feet and learn, and will record his name in history for thousands upon thousands to revere. But what if another man determines the same theory on his own, then delays in publishing his results by a mere week? Will he be remembered for his greatness? No. He will be forgotten. Invention. A woman builds a new design of create worth—some fabrial or feat of engineering. She will be known as an innovator. But if someone with the same talent creates the same design a year later—not realizing it has already been crafted—will she be rewarded for her creativity? No. She’ll be called a copier and a forger. And so, in the end, what must we determine? Is it the intellect of a genius that we revere? If it were their artistry, the beauty of their mind, would we not laud it regardless of whether we’d seen their product before? But we don’t. Given two works of artistic majesty, otherwise weighted equally, we will give greater acclaim to the one who did it first. It doesn’t matter what you create. It matters what you create before anyone else. So it’s not the beauty itself we admire. It’s not the force of intellect. It’s not invention, aesthetics, or capacity itself. The greatest talent that we think a man can have? Seems to me that it must be nothing more than novelty." So this isn't really a groundbreaking theory or anything, but I just wanted to share.

I think I am even more spoiled by Brandon's communication with his fans. He is constantly updating us on where he is at (writing his books) and even has a completion percentage on his page. With many authors we only get about two updates a year if we are lucky! -
I have a crazy conspiracy theory of why Jasnah was on the cover. Brandon got some criticism from certain people (not me) for allowing a male on the cover when it was Shallans book. Some feminists were upset by this. Perhaps he put Jasnah on the Oathbringer cover to appease these critics? I'm sure I am wrong, but that's my tin foil hat idea for the day.

@Ari Thanks! For some reason I really zoned out during portions of that audiobook...I don't normally do that and it was a interesting story. I need to read my physical copy sometime soon.

Not that I'm doubting you, but where are you getting this information from?

I think I will be the first one on the thread to say Galladon. I feel that he is a man that tries to be a happy, good, kind person that takes things on faith (my evidence for this is his continuing to believe in Raoden) but his natural personality seems to lean towards pessimism, pragmatism and depression.

If she is indeed holding something in her hand and it turns out to be a dawnshard or something else very significant I owe you a upvote! -
I really feel that we are taking the cover too seriously (I know we are Sharders its what we do) but many times the cover evokes a particular feeling or interpretation of events...many times it not really supposed to be accurate. It happens all the time. I just finished Dale Lucas' book The Fifth Ward; the badge on the front is nothing like the one described in the book, but it captures the essence of the book nicely.

All of Sanderson's covers have been just ok to me. Its a shame my favorite illustrator (Richard Anderson) and Sanderson can't team up. Tor did a write up about Anderson recently: http://www.tor.com/2017/05/17/richard-anderson-art-sff-book-covers/

I don't know it looks like like its supposed to be Shallan to me.

Have you tried the collected Bone graphic novels by Jeff Smith? They are excellent! Powder Mage gets a lot of love on the shard, but for me it was ok. Another series that basically does everything Powder Mage does, but in my opinion better, is Wexler's Shadow Campaign novels starting with The Thousand Names. -
So the sequel of a book I very much enjoyed (Cold Iron) is coming out August 8 by Stina Leicht called Blackthorne. I wonder if Brandon wanted this to be the title of Stormlight #3, but his agent told him it would be too confusing for some readers? Perhaps Oathbringer was his choice all along...just a random thought.

"We have reached an era of modernism both louder and more silent at the same time"* Its amazing how the author can drop something so profound seemingly out of nowhere. *ch 8 Shadows of Self

Perhaps she doesn't know how awesome Stick is? It is a confirmed member of two secret organizations: b.a.r.k. and b.i.t.e. and is a probable world hopper. It is on the coppermind so it must be true... http://coppermind.net/wiki/Stick -

Dagger and Coin series by Abraham is a excellent completed 5 book series If you want something different try the Dandelion Dynasty series beginning with Grace of Kings by Ken Liu. He wrote in the style of Chinese epics and a lot of western audiences did not get it Monarchies of God by Paul Kearney The Forgetting Moon by Durfee. This is the first of five and its about 800 pgs. The author wants to release a book every 18 months and I believe he can do this. The best start to a series I have ever read (way too early to call it my favorite series though) The Expanse series by Corey - Excellent Space Opera. I didn't like the tv show, but the books are amazing. -
Nice! When you get done give me a p.m....there is something I want to tell you about Redmask that some malazan fans don't understand.

Calderis I don’t know how to put this but you are kind of a big deal. People know you. You probably have many leather-bound books and the apartment smells of rich mahogany. -
So in the 2014 State of Sanderson we have this, "So in the end, we’ll have four total. (The final one is tentatively called The Lost Metal.) From there, I might jump to the second “big” trilogy, which is 1980s tech. Or I might dally a little more in something 1940s-era instead. We’ll see." So my question: Is he still planning on doing 1940's Mistborn? Is anyone close to him or is there any Words of Brandon addressing it that I am not aware of? Honestly I am a little divided. It seems like a intriguing idea, but I really want Science Fiction Mistborn and if he adds this to the list that will make the series I really want take longer.

Currently watching Samurai 7 about 4 episodes in. It is good, but something is keeping it from being great. Its hard to put my finger on it, but I think there isn't a character I am really interested in; they are all mildly interesting.
