Perhaps you, or anyone really, could answer a Catholic question for me? I have tried to ask my catholic friends, but I have only about 5 of them and they are not really into their religion and they don't know the answer. So are all catholics encouraged to find a sub-sect of catholicism in additional to being a regular catholic? I know that some are Jesuits /Opus Dei etc in addition to the main religion. I have been curious about this for awhile and cannot phrase the question correctly enough for it to yield search engine results.

Story and Music like Derithil and the Wandersail
Ammanas replied to Ammanas's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've always wanted to give the book a try with Graphic Audio I wonder if a moderator would give you guys permission to include a clip with the Hoid scene? If its not too much work for you that is. -
Does anyone have any links youtube etc of anyone telling a story like Hoid does in ch 57 of WoK? It would be interesting to hear someone play a instrument, tell a story and have the notes match the plot. I'm sure there are lots of examples, but the only thing that comes even close (off the top of my head) is Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen or the Decemberists Hazards of Love but that's a full opera and a band. I am looking for one person that does everything.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Ammanas replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You are browsing around and see a game called Radiant Historia and get excited and think, there is a stormlight archive game out. What a awesome surprise! Then you realize this game has nothing to do with Stormlight Archives. -
@CalderisI tried reading it awhile back and was disappointed. Recently I read a article that caused me to reevaluate things and went back to give it another shot. This time around its highly enjoyable. I'll post the link (not that I'm trying to argue). Eveyone is free to like and dislike whatever they want. I just wanted to share. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/blog/sci-fi-fantasy/lasting-legacy-tad-williams-memory-sorrow-thorn/

Maybe part of the problem was you started with To Green Angel Tower which is the concluding volume of the original trilogy.

There lives a man named Hoid, His presence in the cosmere books one can not avoid, What are his goals and who are his foes? We may never know, At least untill the publication of Dragonsteel But who knows if that book will ever become real? So meanwhile we guess, And leave Sanderson to write the rest.

Deviations from the source material
Ammanas replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in General Brandon Discussion
As long as the films hit the main parts of the series as landmarks I don't mind deviations on how they get there (in fact I encourage small deviations it makes it more interesting). I think a example of this is the Harry Pottet movies. The producer of the first two was too rigid in adapting the books. The one they had for movie 3 and 4-8 did a much better job imo bc they took risks and were not afraid of change. Also it is important the producers capture the Zeitgeist of Sandersons works. It would not do for them to have a dark gloomy feel about them -
For me the problem is the philosophical musings. If you allow me a metaphor: the musings are like salt (he added some in the main series and it added flavor to it). In the kharkhanus books he dumps the entire salt shaker on the plate and ruins the meal.

I didn't like Fall of Light (but plan on giving it another try. Forge of Darkness was ok. I love the 10 book main series. Might be my all time favorite (it changes).

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Ammanas replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You go up to random people and sit by them not saying a word. After a few moments, you whisper, "Winds are changing. It's been hapening for months now. A whirlwind. Shifting and turning , blowing us round and around. Like a world spinning, but we can't see it because we're too much a part of it."* *For those curious ch 54 WoK -
Question about Brandon and Publishing
Ammanas replied to Ammanas's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'm starting to think his story Death by Pizza will never be published. Its not one I'm anxiously waiting on, but will give it a try if it ever comes out. -
So, you probably already know this but you know that the Cthaeh is a creature that lives in the tree right? Speaking of which Nick Pedehl, the narrator for the audiobooks, picked a amazing voice for it. It came across as frightening, sardonical, and confident all at the same time.

I love it when authors do this! I always assume its on purpose whether its the actual truth or not.

I have imagined it as a giant spider...although I realize I have no reason to do so. I'm sure we will get a description in Oathvember (as the 11th month will now be called for this year only).

I posted this link awhile back, but with Oathbringer being cut down to 450,000 words it is now going to be the 13th longest science fiction/fantasy novel of all time. http://thewertzone.blogspot.com/2017/02/the-longest-sff-novels-of-all-time.html?m=1

My memory is rubbish so I avoid the pre-release chapters. I remember enough that nothing big would surprise me, but can't remember small stuff that might be important later on.

Dalinar standing before the Nightwatcher would be a good idea for the interior cover.

I was thinking about it this morning and thought about a comparison. My church has three goals which can be personalized as three individual goals that every member seeks to obtain. I am not particularly good at them, but strive to become better. For other people these ideals may come naturally to them. Just bc one belongs to a group that idealizes a certain attribute doesn't mean that you possess them. Just some outside the box thinking...anyone can feel free to correct me.
-
I found what you are talking about now. You are right Obedience and Bravery are the two associated with it. It it possible that it is the goal of that order to possess those attributes bc they struggle with them? That is a goal to achieve perfection in them? It is also possible I am very tired and that is a crazy idea...

So everyone seems to be guessing who will be a Dustbringer, but according to the coppermind we don't know much about them. We know they prefer to be called Releasers (they feel they are misjudged/misunderstood bc of their power) and the common people compare them to voidbringers. That's really all that we know, unless you know something I don't. http://coppermind.net/wiki/Order_of_Dustbringers

About 2/3 done with The Dragonbone Chair and I am hooked now. I am a huge fan of the fantasy genre and can see how this series is a very important bridge between Tolkien (and his knockoffs) and the complex fantasy series of the late 90's through today. Once Simon leaves the castle is when it really started getting interesting for me.
