Renarin is going to be ridiculously powerful someday.
Argel replied to Unite Them's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, not as athletic as the others. I wonder how much the Bridge 4 training has helped though. I'm sure he can eventually get "good enough" for a non-combatant. -
In TWoK, when Navani arrives, Dalinar retreats to the table to eat, and it's commented on that his serving people knew what he liked. Puts a whole new spin on that.... Explains why Gavilar did not let Dalinar in on many of those secrets, etc. Dalinar no doubt feels much more comfortable on the shattered plains. Adolin is definitely his father's son (Renarin presumably takes more after his mother). Adolin and Shallan's betrothal bear some similarities to Dalinar's (foreigner, kind of spur of the moment, parent did not arrange them).

More like the first "koloss" would kill its creator. TLR had the advantage of understanding what was going on, putting in safe guards. etc. that someone without that would not likely be prepared to deal with.

I thought he actually denied the training guard for shardblades was aluminum? I may have been reading a paraphrase though.

Content of the new Stormlight Archive novella
Argel replied to philipp32's topic in Stormlight Archive
In Arcanum Unbound? Lift, IIRC. -
Maybe TLR thought that made them too powerful, so kept the knowledge from them?

It's also possible the worldhoppers have some kind of code of conduct, and Hemalurgy could be considered too extreme. At least for those that all hang out at the Restaurant at the end of the Cosmere (i.e. a hemalurgy free zone....).

I would be careful reading too much into that. Nazh is from Threnody and for all we know that device might detect him even though he is not a CS. It's probably a subtle hint that Threnody is near Sel, but e.g. it could be closer to Sel than to Scadrial (or equidistant if the three make up an equilateral triangle). Could be Brandon was cackling with glee after writing that, given all the speculation that the people in SoS came from either Sel or Scadrial.

Lightsong from Warbreaker. His character really helped carry that novel for me, and I loved the flashback to what his previous job really was, and it was still a fitting end to him Sadeas for the reasons others have stated. Kelsier partly because Mistborn was one of the first I read by Brandon after Wheel of Time. Oh, and the ending to Firstborn -- I used to think it was cheesy, but I recently re-read it and the setup for it is better than I thought, making it believable. Edit: It's interesting that after WoT, I read several of Brandon's books, and when that well dried up, I read Malazan Book of the Fallen, likely forever changing my view on character deaths.... Not that I want Brandon to do Fantasy Military, though I do think Malazan still holds "the Epic with a capital E" crown.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Argel replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted.Unfortunately, the power supply to use it will not be invented till after all the Cosmere books have been published. And, decades later, once that finally occurs, you can't even tell if it works because it fires so fast you cannot see it and the beam is so thin that you need a microscope to see the hole it burned. On the plus side, once you learn how to use it you can create nano-etchings almost instantaneously. The Nightwatcher cajoles you with hints that maybe she will not give you a bane. Then she cackles with mirth at you for being so wishy-washy that you couldn't even decide if you wanted a flyback drive. Years later, when you use your laser for the 18446744073709551616 time (16^16 in honor of Brandon's favorite number), you turn into The Fly. I wish I could teleport safely including what I am wearing and holding anywhere in the world, without any limitations preventing me from using the ability. -
I wish Brandon would give us a Renarin POV short story in Arcana Unbound. We will onyl know so much about him till we have some POVs.

In some ways it comes down to how much control Renarin will eventually have over his power. I don't think it's going to be erratic and uncontrollable forever. I also find it hard to believe he hasn't studied military history, etc. given how much he wants to impress his father and Adolin. The upcoming battles will likely require new tactics, and not having to unlearn a bunch of stuff that no longer works could be a plus. One thing I am positive about is you are underestimating him. If not, then his SA book is going to be a slog fest of Renarin getting lucky time after time (or failing left and right, not sure which would be worse). And regarding that quote, it's right after Sadeas fails at it, and I not would rate Sadeas as completely stupid. Though to be fair, Renarin is probably more in league with Navani, Jasnah, and Shallan, who I would rate as higher than all of the highprinces (possibly excepting Sebarial). It's too bad we never get to see Shallan and Hoid trade insults.... -
I thought we had a WoB that Threnody is in it's own planetary system. And how do we know the Ire fortress is near the Threnody border?

Or just 5 years apart. Brandon hasn't decided yet. Anyway, this is a fantasy setting, and Renarin has been in some combat. Take his magical abilities and what he does have and that could be enough for this setting. There's also the strategic level, which Renarin may have enough experience for. If nothing else, he can probably predict which army will need support, supplies, etc. Intelligence as Ninja Yodeler mentioned, but also just plain logistics. For that matter, imagine if you knew which battles you would lose and which you would win.... On the Intelligence front, he could expose/become aware of (if not already) the various secret organizations. Renarin is also one of the few to hold his own with Wit: Now, for the ultimate question -- when he sees Hoid, what does he see of the future? -
Does Illumination Surge == Lightweaving though? Good point about Hoid, though I'm sure he would like to forget him!

Good point. Hopefully someone will ask Brandon if Hoid's "luck" magic uses Scadrial Feruchemy.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

Granted! You get the latest, greatest pre-alpha card from nVidia. Unfortunately there are no drivers for it. They also botched the heatsink and it melts your computer. Your bane is everything smells like burnt plastic. I wish for three new short stories in Arcanum Unbound! -

Well, he has been practicing with Vashar and Kaladin (well, at least Bridge 4). Still not quite the same as in the field experience, but a lot closer than just learning abut theory. -
Do we know for certain he's never been to Scadrial before the first time we see him there in the novels? What if he picked up Feruchemy e.g. 500 years earlier?

I read that as implying the vessel could have been good matches. It did not sound like the Intents independent of respective vessels would be good matches.- 44 replies

Congrats! You're the Kung Fu Panda! Your bane is .. you are the Kung Fu Panda! I wish this Presidential race was just a nightmare instead of reality! -

I mentioned that up above. And I hope he does not become a combat monster, at least not the way to seem to be hoping. We have Kaladin for that. I'm hoping Renarin is more ... thoughtful. -
I think it's the same basic mechanics used for ranged weapons from the MAG, just with some new options thrown in. I think it's Physique.

My favorite character is probably Shallan, and the scene where she kills Tyn stands out, but there are plenty of others too, like when she arrives at New Kholinar The Shattered Plains, and when Dalinar walks into her tent on the plains saying something like "so you're the one that has taken over my expedition". Also,t he second meeting with Mraize. Also, in TWoK, when Dalinar beats up Elohkar and he tells Elohkar that he's courting Navani. I would also say the whole Bridgburners save Dalinar event -- out on the plains and even moreso after they are back and we see how much integrity Dalinar really has. There are a lot of scense I have bookmarked that are just fun to read again and again.

Wow, great stuff again!! Any chance you could do a Shallan and Jasnah scene (e.g. from TWoK or WoR on the ship). Or Sebarial and Palano reading her book at the end of WoR (certainly a funny scene)?
