  1. Straight line? Thanks! I'll be here all weekl!!
  2. Yay!! Jasnah and Shallan!! It's that night that Shallan steals the fake fabrial, so I agree it was a defining moment. I like Dalinar and Navani as well, and it's been so long since I read TWoK I forgot about that scene! Nice job! The vintage stuff was great too, and of course the AU!!
  3. Well, it's possible Cultivation could see that Taravangian would create the Diagram, etc. I agree though -- it's hard to see how the Diagram is the better/more lilkely to succeed version. It's worth keeping in mind that Taravangian seems to lose his understanding of morals/ethics/empathy as his intelligence increases and the Diagram was created when he was his most intelligent -- i.e. there are likely ramifications to the things he is doing that were not properly considered when the Diagram was created.
  4. Lightsong, eh? Very well then, your wish is granted, but you come back as an Awakened, having no memory of your wish, and really little need for it as you live a life of apathetic luxury. And some idiot with a pipe convinces all your rats to go off with him. I wish it wasn't allergy season!! Achoo!!
  5. It's interesting that no other male is referenced as specifically using his left hand in TWoK. Were these scenes dropped in directly from the original TWoK? Or is there a hint about something here, such as Dalinar being left-handed?
  6. True, but no one else gets that treatment, not even Kaladin (at least no in TWoK).
  7. Not sure if this could mean anything or not, but the only time "left hand" is used to describe a male in TWoK is a figure of speech describing Gavilar and then the rest are all for Dalinar. And there are not any "right hand" references describing Dalinar. Maybe that's because the right hand is just assumed(?). Could Dalinar be left handed, or ambidextrous?
  8. We may have accidentally stumbled across something. "Right hand" barely appears in either book, and ditto for "left hand". But in TWoK, when "left hand" is used to describe a male, that male is always Dalinar!! The only exception is a figure of speech referring to Gavilar ("not a scholarly finger on his left" or something like that). *wow*
  9. I think the WoB is that he did not use all of it, or something like that. So e.g. if using half of it would still make you a mistborn then he could have done that.
  10. Adolin is terrible at politics -- Dalinar and Renarin have both had to reign his temper in against Sadeas in TWoK. Looking back, it's no surprise he took Sadeas out when there was no one around to reign him in. He also screwed up the dual challenge (hence why it was 4 on 1) in WoR. If he wants to have a shot at being even okay at politics he will have to reign his temper in. Otherwise, he will be too easy to provoke, and duels cannot always be the answer.
  11. Maxal, you are the one that wrote this: My point was, that there have to be differences between the two that have to go noticed. Soldiers usually train to work in formations, and that means main weapon the right hand and an off-weapon or shield in the left. They may do some training with both hands, but the heavy focus will be on the right-hand and stances related to that. And sword forms do not just magically mirror themselves when using the left hand. Left hand stances have to be designed for right-hand stances. That means a whole new set of stances, which we have no evidence for. Edit: We also have zero evidence that Kaladin trained anyone in Bridge 4 to use a Spear from the left hand.
  12. So when a left-handed Alethi baby is born, it has some innate instinct tell it it to ignore that' it's left hand is dominant?? Of course not. Parents, older siblings, nannies, etc. would have to actively discourage use of the left hand. There's nothing natural about not using your dominant hand. Or are you trying to say that everyone in Alethi is born right-handed? I'm pretty sure there is a WoB that contradicts that (not to mention that apparently Dalinar's wife may have been left-handed). You also seem to be assuming that there are no clues that someone is left-handed if they have been forced to use their right hand instead, yet that individual would be much more likely to appear to be ambidextrous. There are too many highly trained people around Renarin not to notice, Vasher being the most obvious, and several from Bridge 4.
  13. Adolin himself implies there are similarities to his father when he is killing Sadeas. And as an example, there's this: So Adolin is not like his older wiser father who follows the codes therefore they cannot be similar? Except that the younger Dalinar was brash and didn't follow the codes, so in fact Adolin is like his father when he was younger. Dalinar wasn't interested in the codes until after Gavilar's assassination. Adolin can push Dalinar's buttons, giving credibility to Dalinar's POV on their similarities. We are not given any reason to believe Dalinar completely misunderstands his son. And again, different upbringings can easily explain differences, like Brandon covers in First Born. First Born mega spoiler Your have not said anything that a different upbringing and different experiences cannot explain. Yes, Dalinar may be projecting himself onto Adolin, but where are the POVs stating they are very different?
  14. We already know that Khriss is from the White Sands world and Nazh is from Threnody (the Shadows for Silence in the Forest of Hell world) from WoBs.
  15. Do we know if each book in SA will correspond to one of the KR orders? If so, that would suggest the main POV character for each book will be the one to represent one of the orders.
  16. I think the Everstorm itself is something new as well.
  17. Almost everything you mention can be a result of a different upbringing. And Adolin killing Sadeas was pretty barbaric-like. And again, TWoK tells us they are similar. You should read Brandon's First Born when you get a chance. Were they running away? That has connotations that can differ from "refugee", which is more along the lines of leaving a devastated usually by war) area, and there are plenty of possibilities for that given Gavilar was in the process of uniting the highprinces.
  18. Does Brandon say when Sixth of the Dusk has had Herdazian food? If not, I'm guessing it's after the short story takes place. The other possiblitiy is a worldhopper is living on that planet now incognito, such that Sixth has had Herdazian food but doesn't know that's what it is. That is, maybe it's just a new recipe/style of food.
  19. Granted. The Nightvvatcher sends you to a parallel universe that Voidus never existed in. The catch is you never existed there either and are quickly captured and experimented on for the remainder of your life. Your bane is they vvater board you incessantly every other day. I vvish I could use the letter double-u again!
  20. That's a good point, and I hate to say this, but I would expect Vasher to notice if Renarin was left handed. Though if most practice against right handed forms, then the training could occur less often/be more difficult. Still, I'm inclined to agree, and wonder if using the left hand is just viewed negatively in general in Alethi society.
  21. Granted. English is now gibberish to you, much like in this video: https://youtu.be/Vt4Dfa4fOEY Your bane is no one understands you anymore -- what you say, write and do -- but you understand everyone else perfectly. It's maddening. I wish I had a shardblade and shardplate, and an infinite source of stormlight to keep the shardplate working.
  22. I was thinking mainly of how Adolin keeps changing girldfriends. And he would have Dalinar as his father, so probably not allowed to be as reckless as Dalinar. It's also stated in TWoK:
  23. What matters is that most people are right handed, so the swords forms will be designed with that in mind (e.g. stronger arm/hand, etc.).
  24. Yeah, I could swear we had one saying the training guard was not aluminum.
  25. This fall is everyone's best guess, since it is being releases to placate SA fans now that SA3 has been delayed till fall 2017. It will have most (all?) of the Cosmere short stories up till that point, the new new one with Lift, possibly a second one (not holding my breath on that), a Cognitive Realm map of the Cosmere, and introductions to each world (if I understand correctly) by Khriss (author of the Ars Acanum in each book). Maybe soem other goodies as well (IIRC, there will be a reading guide, which suggests we might get a timeline, at least for some of the books).
