  1. This should be pinned!! BTW, hasn't Brandon started to use "Intent" in place of "mandate"? Also, along those lines, isn't "vessel" the newer term for "shardbearer"? Edit: That should be "shrdholder" as Emerald101 mentions.
  2. The original Eras 2 and 3 became Eras 3 and 4 respectively when the Wax and Wayne books became Era 2. It's just a numbering thing.
  3. Granted. Unfortunately, you reveal all of your subconscious biases, prejudices, etc. when you convey your intent and thus end up offending people anyway. Your bane is over time everyone you know begins to hate/resent you. Granted!! A several day old omelette falls out of a passing garbage truck, hitting you in the face. Your bane is smell like that omelette for the rest of your life. I wish for a new computer with 64GB of the fastest RAM available, two of the best, top of the line nVidia video cards with 8GB of RAM on each, a 512GB or larger SSD drive, 2 5TB SATA drives, at least two multi-core CPUs from Intel's best x64 line, Windows 10 Pro, and the best motherboard ASUS has that satisfies the above specifications.
  4. Sorry, but Jasnah already has one challenging aspect for Brandon to write (aethism), so I doubt he would add another (LGBT).
  5. He doesn't seem to be actively trying to get Night blood back. I think he is on Roshar because he has insight into the upcoming events (KRs, Odium, etc.).
  6. So when creating an artistic painting, what's the building block? The power of creation? Natural ability? A good understanding of the fundamentals? The oil paints? The brushes? The canvas? Some combination of them? All of them? I'm not sure on the answer, though "building block" does suggest something more tangible. Though for my question, I might say the building blocks are the ability to create and the materials necessary to create. Though with that said, you need the materials to actually be able to create something. The talent (ability to paint) affects the quality. Edit: So just the materials? I'm not sure how much we should read into WoBs considering he mentioned he has not told us about how investiture really works yet. That could mean he has been using generalized terms to avoid revealing too much.
  7. Granted. You pull it off, and then immediately drop dead from a massive heart attack. We will miss you on the forums! I wish Brandon would release something new this month!!!!!!!!!! Edit: I take pity on you and remove the "for the cosmere" part.
  8. Wow!! That's a very insightful comment! Sounds like you have been beaten down. All I saw was an insightful post. Don't do the work of the bullies for them!! Do we know if that is the only oath they swear?
  9. So.... The mystery threat is Kevino36 and his creations. Can we build a team to stop them!?!?!
  10. I thought we learned they killed him because he revealed he wanted to bring their god back (thinking they would be happy about that)?
  11. The Ghostbloods are worldhoppers. One is a decendant of the SoScads (the lady with the mask), Mraize has his collection of stuff from all over the place, etc. More likely a lot is happening in the Greater Roshar system, attracting the attention of worldhoppers. There's Hoid, 17th Shard (though maybe they are just after Hoid), Ghostbloods, and Vasher. We also have a WoB that a Kandra is on Roshar (or maybe Kandra have been there -- not sure if there are specifics on the timeframe). And isn't Nazh there too? And of course Khriss writes the Ars Acanum, so presumably she has been there (doubt she would just rely on Nazh). Anyway, seems like someone is hosting a worldhopper party there. Edit: Nothing like throwing a party to spite Odium...
  12. Maybe Bloodsealing was the inspiration for Forgery (e.g. someone trying to find a more civilized way of doing it, or someone with a phobia of seeing blood wanted a way to use magic).
  13. I could swear I just read one where he said he wasn't planning to say in the books, but that he could tell us it was because (paraphrasing of course) shardblades were just as easy to wield by women as men, and so it was to maintain the power balance.
  14. I know Liars of Partinel is not canon, but if he's a dragon in there, then he must have 1) not known it and 2) been stuck in human form. Unless he becomes a dragon later on. Maybe that's what "Topaz" was really about (implying he gave up being a dragon).
  15. Wow! First, I'm really, really impressed! Second, I'm surprised I'm only the second upvote -- you may want to put a tl;dr summary at the top.
  16. Sel could potentially fight a defensive war until they work out ways to take the fight to the enemy. They may also have a better chance to detect Kandra given all the "high tech"-like magic than the rest.
  17. Nitpick: Odium is active on Roshar, but he's on Braize. I'm thinking more Heralds and/or Honor. Though given some of his associates, it could come from all sorts of places.
  18. Unless sated otherwise, the MAG is canon: And out of the supplements for Terris, Skaa, and AoL respectivley, the only one with a disclaimer is AoL: The book on the Terris makes no mention one way or the other (at least the version I have), but I believe "canon" is the default. The one about the Skaa mentions this on the back cover: Note that the one on the Terris was the first supplement, so they may have overlooked mentioning if it was canon or not. I'm pretty sure though that the default for the MAG is canon. It really is great to have an author so engaged that he reviews the gamebooks, provides additional short stories with them, etc.!!!
  19. Probably because it was expected. If it had been a negative, that would have been a big shock.
  20. Have you read the anthology it was originally included in -- Shadows Beneath? It has transcriptions of the Writing Excuses brainstorming sessions, alpha group reviews, and rough drafts included in it. IIRC, I think it started out as telepathic birds, or something along those lines. The Writing Excuses podcasts should be available online so you can listen in on them. Edit: Try this link: http://www.writingexcuses.com/2013/04/21/
  21. I think it's because that knife is actually in the cognitive realm.
  22. Were their children out on the Shattered Plains (not counting darkeyes)?
  23. How could the koloss be controlled in your post TLR/pre HoA scenario? Could they be hered back after a charge, etc.? More complex maneuvers still an option?
  24. Calling koloss tanks is a good analogy -- they are heavily armored, pack a punch, and move fast. They really need to be thought of as cavalry. Which us takes us back to Alethi formations -- they don't have any for something like the koloss. Phalanx units are infantry vs. infantry. In fact, cavalry significantly reduced the useful of the phalanx style shield walls. There's the anti-cavalry version, with shield and polearms, but I don't see how that kind of shield wall survives more than one wave of koloss. Also, those would be particularly susceptible to lurchers since they are braced to deal with a push, not a pull. And cavalry against a koloss seems doomed to failure since koloss have speed and maneuverability. The other problem I see. Morale and stamina. Neither are an issue for the koloss compared to the Alethi, but I do not feel like that is really being factored in, beyond possibly assuming the Alethi have enough forces to swap in fresh units, but it's not clear they will have time to do that.
