I think Brandon started out using "Mandate" and then a Sharder popularized "Intent" so much so that Brandon has starting using it. I think that's the history -- I recall reading a theory thread recently that mentioned X number of years ago "Intent" wasn't in use yet, so WoB from back then wre using little-i "intent".

If Harmony was shattered, would it drop Ruin and Preservation, or splinters of Harmony?

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Argel replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
The Nightwatcher glares at you and asks why you think she is a parshwoman. With a flick of her hand, your belongings appear a mile up above you house, and you watch in agony as it all slowly falls onto your new house, destroying everything nearby. A video of it does go vital though. Your bane is you cannot sleep indoors anymore. I wish we had a full moon every night! (good luck with the move) -
I wonder if she used Liss against them. This is probably another tie-in to how she is broken (i.e. that she might resort to using assassins sooner than later). Hopefully we will learn some more in SA3.

If you are honorable you would lie for altruistic reasons. The less honorable, the more for personal gain at the expense of others, conceited reasons, or just for fun become prevalent.

Where did I ever suggest Jasnah initiated hostilities?? And you can't assassinate someone in self-defense, because assassination is premeditated, and self defense is not. We know Jasnah was planning to meet with assassins the night Gavilar was assassinated and we saw Jasnah murder those thugs in front of Shallan. The Ghostbloods may have initiated hostilities, but it's not hard to imagine Jasnah escalating to assassinations first based on what we know.

Same here Ninja Yodeler, so don't feel bad.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

Kelvin is the true temperature scale, so that seems appropriate even if it does kill everyone in the Utah and presumably neighboring areas. Sounds like the result of an Epic from Reckoners. Well done!! Your wish is granted. There is now a giant ball of Atium speeding your way, like the giant boulder trap in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Your bane is indecisiveness. Good luck figuring out how to avoid being crushed! I wish the temperature in rural New York would stay in the 40 deg F to 75 deg F range all the time, with no negative repercussions everyone living here. -
Illusions are by definition deceptive. Not sure you needed to head down the Godwin's Law path, but I suppose an extreme example like that does make the point that lying can be the honorable thing to do. I doubt even Syl would have a problem with that scenario since it is about protecting people that desperately need that protection. Just like how she she doesn't like killing but understands that it is sometimes necessary.

Because Khriss is a scholar making an active effort to study the Cosmere while Hoid has a specific purpose that he is focused on. She also has a research assistant (Nazh). Khriss has likely been to planets Hoid has no reason to visit and likely spends more time on them than Hoid usually does. Even if the amount of time is equal, Hoid is often busy in various events, unlike e.g. having Nazh spend an inordinate amount of time drawing bridgemen.

If Mraize is to be believed, then it sounded like Jasnah tried to have one or more of them assassinated first:

They probably expect us to make a terrible analogy about the long wait before they will tell us.

Didn't the special dyes come from from flowers in a special location (presumably Endowments shardpool).

Are the Ghostbloods hunting KRs? I didn't think we had a good idea of what they really want yet?

Yeah, but that was a lie to convince Szeth that he was still Truthless. So as far as we know, Szeth's honorblade is the only one the Shin have lost.

Very good points! -
Sometimes the honorable thing to do is pretend something didn't happen, tell white lies, etc. Though we see nothing to connect Liespren to the Stormfather (though not sure we really see anything to outright discount that either.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

Granted. You have one of the worst vacations ever. Your luggage is lost, food poisoning for everyone, and then the cruise ship runs aground and sinks. Luckily everyone survives, but you catch a terrible cold on top of the food poisoning, which later turns into pneumonia. In the hospital you catch a staff infection. After almost losing your life, you begin your slow recovery, vowing to remember the old adage that you get what you pay for. Speaking of that, as your bane, you can never accept anything for free ever again. That includes gifts from friends and family. I wish for good luck! -
theory An Possible Explanation for Taravangian's Diagram
Argel replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah, but when would Odium notice him? The idea that Diagram has been influenced by Odium requires that Odium was paying enough attention to influence him that day. I could see where Odium did notice as that day went on (making the early portions of the Diagram less suspect), but I'm having a hard time believing that Odium was paying that much attention to Taravangian up to that point (beyond that Taravangian was a king). As far as we know, Taravangian doesn't become a major player until after The Diagram. Don't forget they needed his day of his second higest intelligence to really get the ball rolling on deciphering The Diagram. Though I suppose one question to ask is what language was The Diagram actually written in --- e.g. what if that language Taravangian made up was actually a language from Yolen or a shardworld? That would be interesting! -
theory An Possible Explanation for Taravangian's Diagram
Argel replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Stormlight Archive
My guess is the memories of that day are so tied to his intelligence that he doesn't have the capacity to remember anything. That and if you take his intelligence out of the picture, then all he was doing was scribbling on the walls. With that said, it's a good point that we don't know for sure if everything that day was tied to his wish/bane. On the other hand, what makes Travangian so special at that point and time? It seems like Odium's interest would pick up after the Diagram and after the less intelligent Travangian figured out how to interpret it. Of course, Odium could have influenced some of that as well. But it just seems to me that Odium would have less reason to focus on Travangian until after he started doing things based on the Diagram. And I suppose, that may be enough of an influence. -
Sixth of Dusk timeline/ones above Brandon Answers [Maybe spoilers]

if Brandon is planning on bringing him back later on, then Brandon could be thinking that SIxth will have had Herdazian food by the time we see him again. Though I will go more with my worldhopper theory (i.e. that he has had it already while not realizing it).- 50 replies

Or being resigned to the imprisonment (i.e. really accepting it vs. railing against it). Also, it could be more about killing time while waiting to be released (i.e. when time is served).

theory An Possible Explanation for Taravangian's Diagram
Argel replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Stormlight Archive
Except as far as we know, all of the shards/vessels can predict the future though and the wish was granted by Cultivation's uber spren, so why would it be coming from Odium? The Death Rattles could be influenced by Odium though. But more to the point, his wish for the capacity to save the world. In other words, he was so intelligent that day that he could predict what would happen much like a grandmaster of chess can predict ridiculous numbers of turns ahead with needing magic. As far as we know, the only "magic" going on is only to carry out the wish and the bane, which comes from Cultivation. We have seen several shards/vessels predicting the future, including Honor in SA,and others in e.g. in the Mistborn series (mega spoilers) We also know Hoid has some kind of future prediction thing going on, so whatever power he is tapping into somehow predicts the future and I would be shocked to find out that that power comes from Odium given how dangerous he implies being on Roshar is. -

Granted. But a cat now has your tongue. It looks unassuming, not really standing out. Pretty much indistinguishable from every other cat, at least when viewed from a distance. Your bane is you are allergic to cats! Speaking of that, I wish I was not allergic to cats!
