  1. It probably is, but if something is in one magic system it could be in another (edit: i.e. there is precedent for Luck in the Cosmere). Yolish and Rosharn Lightweaving (Hoid vs. Shallan) being one of the most obvious example.
  2. Well, Hoid has special luck that let's him show up where he needs to be. They could to, making it e.g. easier to keep tabs on the enemy, prevent a breach in the line, etc.
  3. Shallan and Kaladin share a bond -- the bond of both being pretty heavily broken. Different circumstances, but a lot to relate to. He's also smarter/better educated. Those are both strong points in their favor. Though I have to admit that Jasnah + Kaladin is another interesting ship. Though with that said, Adolin could work out too. We're just going to have to wait and see.
  4. I think it's important to keep in mind Shallan is furthest along as a KR out of the ones we see (except maybe Jasnah). 4th level IIRC (at the end of WoR). So it shouldn't be so surprising that she manages to wing it as well as she does. Sebarial is avoiding politics and focusing on economics. If the desolation had not come, he would likely be dominating trade in the Shattered Plains within months to a year. He's actually more pragmatic than most of the highprinces. So he's to a certain extent a miser (typical trope for a merchant). I doubt what he's paying Shallan is as outrageous as he claims. Also, she is working for him, to at least partially earn that money (there's a scene where she mentions something about finishing up the bookkeeping for him). And there is the snubbing-the-other-highprinces factor. Also don't forget that Sebarial asks Shallaon about Adolin (and not in front of everyone like the not-too-savvy highprinces -- he does it later on while they are riding back to his place, showing he's smarter than others give him credit for). He's also now on Dalinar's good side (joined the expedition, saved Roion’s army [and once again showing he's smarter than given credit for]). And with Sadeas dead, Dalinar appears to be coming out on top in the power struggle (granted, that could quickly change, but for now...). So overall, his ties to Shallan have generally worked in his favor. Regarding the Ghostbloods, if they knew at that time she could remember all of their faces, I doubt she would have left that first meeting. It was probably one of the biggest risks she took. It may be worth asking if she has a certain amount of luck, because she does seem to have a knack for survival, at least when it really counts. I also do not think it hurt that she portrayed herself as a scholar and was able to answer some scholarly questions (e.g. the one about blowguns). I suspect the Ghostbloods are much more open to someone with those credentials and why she left alive (i.e. they decided she might be worth recruiting). We know so little about the Ghostbloods though, so it's hard to say what their motives really are. Gavilar thought they may have sent the assassin, which considering all the stuff he was involved in tells us practically nothing. If Mraize is to be believed Jasnah sent assassins after them first. That's a big "if" though, but that once again it leaves us high and dry (especially if Jasnah sent the first assassin) The only other piece of information we have (beyond the obvious -- e.g. assassins within their midst) is at least some of them are world hoppers. Which yet again fails to tell us much. They are one big RAFO! Regarding WoT, it's a misandric (loosely, sexist against men) society. I agree the female characters could have been written better, but I think part of the annoyance with them comes from the inherent misandry of their society. I actually think Robert Jordan's approach here was spot on, because he avoids ever coming out and saying it, but just let's it pervade the world as it would and writes it that way. But it's more subtle and not everyone picks up on it.
  5. I was thinking there are some intents Hoid may have a very hard time relating to, hence magic would offer an alternative way to create a connection to those. But as you point out, that connection may not be strong enough to make it worthwhile. Here's a thought -- that Aon power booster on Sel -- could that boost other magic systems as well?
  6. What if gaining access to the magic system was a way to establish or strengthen a connection to the shard(s) powering said magic system?
  7. I'm pretty sure we have a WoB that mentions Odium is avoiding heavily investing in a planet to avoid weakening himself.
  8. The highstorm could be like a hurricane, slowing down over land but recharging once it hits water again. The Stormfather creates a new Highstorm at the end of WoR in response to the Everstorm. Was it created at The Origin? And if so, can we infer anything about the distance from that? Did the new Highstorm replace the previous one, or could there be two? FWIW, I would guess The Origin is more in the CR than PR. Regarding a submarine, I would think it would have to run moderately deep to avoid all the havoc the storm creates, and that sounds fraught with peril. A lot of experimentation would be needed, and we have no idea if they have enough understanding of physics, mathematics, etc. to pull it off. They are more closer to medieval technology than modern, and fabrials let them cheat science, giving them fewer incentives to progress their understanding and technological level. Of course, presumably the Heralds and at least some of the KRs could make it to the Origin without too much trouble (especially with access to the CR).
  9. Or maybe the bead can be used to make the special luck stronger/more precise (or both). Good idea.
  10. @Spoolofwhool, but how long has Hoid had his special luck though? I think it predates the bead of Lerasium.
  11. Main point against it is so far Roshar seems to have the most Adonalsium influence, but we know Brandon wants SA to strand on its own more than other Cosmere works. On the other hand, that doesn't preclude a cameo appearance. And Frost implies Adonalsium saw his shattering coming and put some kind of plan into motion to deal with it (hence why he is encouraging Hoid to stop interfering), which could be a stronger point in favor of your theory.
  12. While unlikely, what if Cultivation's vessel gave the shard to someone else? Then the vessel could be alive but the Cultivation shard could have later been shattered. I doubt it, but don't think we should rule it out.
  13. Possible, but supposedly it's the only light source, so wouldn't you hold it to take a closer look at the details? Plus holding it allows you keep the lighting at the center of tapastery and thus more even lighting than putting it on the floor. Doesn't sound like a good reason to put the lantern down. Also, Sadeas was holding it when he first notice Adolin: and... then... I'm guessing Sadeas drops the lantern here. Maybe he still has it when they go rolling, but this seems like a good candidate. It's also right when the rage overcomes Adolin, so he may remember the least amount here, vs. rolling with the lantern, which seems a bit more memorable (especially if Adolin rolled over it).
  14. I expect either no more scenes, or one where he explains some things and then heads off somewhere. There could be two -- them talking along the way, then later on arriving together somewhere. Considering someone else is going to be covering lore, I'm not expecting much. But maybe Brandon is going to give us lore and/or differing viewpoints from different characters. IT's also supposed to be a long trip, so we may see something along the way to help indicate what they are up to. Hoid did wonder all the way out there to meet her -- or maybe he just knew he needed to be there. But that does imply a longer conversation than we the usual hit and run Hoid likes to do. That or Jasnah has something he needs/wants. Though how much of it we see could be a different matter, or saved for her Jasnah's flashback book.
  15. What if Shallan drew the blade like it was alive again -- maybe that would help make it so?
  16. There will have to be something about absorbing Stormlight, or Nightblood will kill Szeth. Unless Nightblood is bonded with Nalan and is just being loaned to Szeth, but I didn't think it was easy to loan out Nightblood. It's also possible there is something weird going on with Szeth being resurrected.
  17. Sadeas is holding a lantern when Adolin attacks. I'm assuming he tried to hit Adolin with it. Maybe he just dropped it to get better leverage/flexibility with both hands, or to draw a knife, or to try and get better lighting (mroe useful if it's a sphere lantern or if oil lanterns are hard to break). But it's makeshift weapon in his hand, so you would think he would try and use it like one at least once. If Adolin is killed off, I'm expecting at at the end of SA5. Sooner than that currently feels "off" to me. That could obviously change, but I think what we do know right now from the books and WoBs suggest Adolin will be around for some time.
  18. The part about everything Jasnah has learned in the CR might be useless coudl suggest a diminished role. Though Hoid could bring her up to speed and seed some very relevant ideas, so it could either way. Though having a book in the back 5 suggests a smaller role in the first 5.
  19. I think there's a WoB that Sazed as Harmony have met and spoke meaningful words or something like that. Brandon was pretty vague on the details, and "meaningful" could mean anything when Hoid is involved. Do we have any evidence that a shard can track those using its power? From any setting? The best we seem to have is Ruin/Harmony and Hemalurgic spikes. And Brandon has said Hemalurgy is an atypical magic system (though that could be more about it being end-negative). Also, there is a WoB that Hoid does not have any spikes. I'm sketicjer in this, but I think Brandon may have indicated Hemalurgy is not Hoid's style, so he might be avoiding it for philosophical reasons (not just that Ruin/Harmony could track or influence him). But like I said, I'm sketchier on that last part.
  20. Don't we see Ati's body when he dies? We don't know what happened on Sel -- was the big Odium/D&D battle mostly in the CR? Not sure if we have any good answers. One could be that the CR connects the PR and the SR, so manifesting in the PR could make the shard significantly more vulnerable and/or weaker.
  21. It has been confirmed they can take human form. I'm expecting something along the lines of DragonLance, though maybe without humans riding them. Particularly the silver dragons which more interest in humans. And probably not the good=metallic and evil=chromatic from D&D. But Brandon has read several books and series about dragons I have not, so I could be wrong. But that's what comes to mind for me.
  22. I just read a recent WoB about his biggest concern writing about the Cosmere and it was that the SA has to stand on it's own, and his biggest concern is he will let too much other Cosmere stuff slips in. He also mentioned he was not as worried about that for Mistborn. So there is no way Brandon is going to slip in hemalurgy to that scale. Not that it's anything Brandon would write anyway -- it's too dark for him. Steelheart spoilers: So it's a fun fanfic/fandom idea, but that's as far as it will go. Sorry. (Paraphrasing these WoBs, of course).
  23. Yeah, it seems we keep coming back to it being part of being a hemalurgic construct. I think that's the best answer we can give right now. As to why that is necessary to make an Inquisitor -- we would have to ask Brandon, but I'm leaning towards the "badass" factor. Edit: Isn't it time to mark this question answered? It's not like we expect to have any new information anytime soon and we seem to just be rehashing the same answers.
  24. You're assuming TLR wanted them to be able to procreate. He could always create more if needed, so he either designed them the way they are or didn't care beyond that. Though if I had to guess, he had to experiment to remove the ability to procreate. Hemalurgy is end-negative because the power in the spike is less than the power that was taken and if if the spike is outside of a human body the power in it decays over time.
  25. Brandon started off reading about dragons -- that's what made him want to write fantasy-- so I doubt he's going to make them too different.
