Returned only need one breath a week, so he clearly would not need a constant stream of Stormlight. Pretty sure there is a WoB that Vasher has to make provisions for the Weeping, and a small number of gems with Stormlight would be much easier to hide than a large number, which suggests he does not need a lot of it. Wonder how much the everstorm messed things up for him if at all. Also, did the ardents come to U?

Brandon defined a worldhopper as someone who has been to another world. There was no requirement that they had to make it their on their own. IIRC, there was a comparison being made to the Doctor's companion leading up to the explanation. With that said, if Braize was formed from a part of Yolen, then there could be some wiggle room. But we're really splitting hairs at that point, and Frost would presuably know if he's on what used to be a part of Yolen.

The Weeper was six years ago. The only info we have post that is with the Ghostbloods conflict. Possible, but on the other hand, the secret societies seem to be be a well kept secret. They would have a hard time operating if not, and quite frankly, if Ialai tipped her hand that she knew about the activities of one of them she would probably be assassinated. The Ghostbloods in particular come to mind on that front, unless she's part of them or being used by them. No hints as to either, and we've discussed before that it doesn't seem like a good fit. Something I think some of you are forgetting is how long Jasnah has been missing/presumed dead. Think about when the ship sunk and how long it took Shallan to finally make it to the Shattered Plains, and then how much time has passed since then. With no word from Jasnah whatsoever. They should have even had time to corroborate that the ship sank, etc. Navi took a long time to accept Jasnah's fate, etc. Plus combine that with the KRs returning and the Everstorm, and Jasnah will have a believable story. More so if Hoid/Wit is there to back her up. And as Overlseep mentions, who would know about her using assassins? Sorry, but you are overreaching.

As far as we know, Scadrial is the only planet created post-shattering. The whole Cosmere is filled with stuff influenced to some degree or another by Adonalsium. And Roshar could have been a pet project. Sorry, but it's not arguably not even weak evidence.

Impressive results, though I think you need therapy for that level of self-torture! YAY!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!! Great one!! Liked the inclusion of The Stick!! Liked Kaladin's surfboard design!!

Which characters will be more/less important?
Argel replied to Toaster Retribution's topic in Stormlight Archive
Odds are he is there to convey information to her, which will hopefully will not take a week. But they could also be headed in the same direction, so who knows. There is ample opportunity for flashbacks, we know Brandon has discussed there being less action in parts, especially the "lore" section (part 2 IIRC) that will feature a new character. So it could be a lot of set up. Different books could also cover different concurrent events. I'm expecting to see Szeth in Shinovar, but we may e.g. just hear about that and not get a chance to learn details till Szeth's book. Brandon is aware of the plot inertia problems Robert Jordon ran into in CoT with books overlapping in time, so he knows to avoid those mistakes. -
@CaptainRyan Sorry, I updated that quote! @Pathfinder, as CaptainRyan pointed out, shardblades make great deterrents. Most soldiers without a shardblade will not even attack someone with one.

That's how I read it too. I also agree that Amaram's chance to come clean was the test and he failed that. Pretty clear from the text in the book.

It's pretty clear the Ghostbloods were not keeping close tabs on her. If they were, they would have figured out she was Veil a long time ago. Don't forget if they were keeping close tabs on Shallan then that would include when she gets back to Sebarial's place. The Ghostbloods do not seem like a huge organization, so I doubt they have enough resources to watch everyone they want to -- they likely have to pick and choose. Or contract out, like with Tyn, but they will want to be careful with that -- e.g. to not revel too much about what they are interested in. I could could not concur more. I do not understand why the Jasnah angle keeps coming up. Beyond someone wanting to blame Jasnah for the sake of blaming her, it makes no sense. And there are plenty of Kholins there right now to blame. Jasnah is a huge stretch beyond purely irrational beliefs. Let's not also forget that Jasnah showing up means she's survived yet another assassination attempt, and presumably it will be revealed she's a KR. If you send assassins after her, the expectation is she will survive the attempt. Additionally, there will be all the time between when the body is found and Jasnah shows up to form other theories, liekly more credible ones. If there's even a hint that it could be Adolin or just one of the Kholins there, I do not think someone is going to shift to it being Jasnah when they have better theories. There's also the obvious -- it's too sloppy to be Jasnah. Well, the the other obvious one too -- Brandon writes better than that.

Good point @Chull #445. Kaladin is still alive because of the conscience Amaram is (barely) holding onto. If Sadeas had been there instead I think we can all agree Kaladin would be dead.

Lesser: Lift, because she's getting the Edgedancer novella. -
Only one in the ebook is the regular map of the Roshar. Thanks for the link!! Agree about one for each region.

Hmm, interesting theory. I wonder why Khriss and others could have such a hard time finding it but the heralds can apparently travel between it with ease. Also, would Frost really be hanging out with Odium? Seems extremely dangerous. Also, not sure if Brandon wants that level of crossover between series -- thinking DragonSteel later on.

Theorycrafting: Nalan will come chasing after Adolin in Oathbringer
Argel replied to Havoc's topic in Stormlight Archive
Are you talking about in the battle with the parshendi at the end? Because that could be the Unmade denying the thrill to the forces working against Odium's interests. -
But it's not just a question of intent. If Amaram is ineffective, then it's irrelevant. And Sadeas's actions could have brought more harm to Roshar (taking Dalinar and Adolin out) than anything Amaram will ever do. We're going to have to RAFO to see if there is anything teeth to the SoH.

I think that's the first time I've seen that Shadesmar map. Are there any others besides it and the two in this thread that have been left out of the eBook?

It doesn't have to be the Kholins. All the assassinations of late have been by others -- Szeth in particular. But surely there are hints of the conspiracies. There's also a mass influx into U, which makes for an opportune time for any assassin to strike. Jasnah still makes no sense to me, starting with no motive. Not to mention that only an idiot would go after her without some solid proof. She has the whole "attitude exudes royalty and power down", everyone knows how smart she is, and how little tolerance she has for BS. Jasnah will walk all over anyone without solid proof and everyone knows it. Sorry, but Jasnah is a non-starter. Yeah, maybe rumors, etc. but without solid proof she is virtually untouchable, and given the power-shifts going on at the moment, why would anyone put themselves at odds with with the Kholins or the newly forming Knight Radiants!?

Theorycrafting: Nalan will come chasing after Adolin in Oathbringer

Without powers for along time till he eventually revives his shardblade would also make more sense if he tangles with Szeth later on, especially is Szeth is SA5. -
Theorycrafting: Nalan will come chasing after Adolin in Oathbringer
Argel replied to Havoc's topic in Stormlight Archive
Interesting theory and different ramifications than what we have been hashing out lately. Also, getting to watch Nalan and Adolin duel would be fun. Or Edgedancer Adolin and Szeth.... Maybe not to be resolved till SA5.... -
Sorry, but Jasnah is a stretch, even more so if she shows up with Hoid/Wit who could vouch for her. There will be too many things she has to catch up on. Why would she even be a suspect when she has been unaware of the events on the Shattered Plains. Shallan can testify to how old Jasnah's notes were. Yeah, someone that hates Jasnah and wants to to blame here solely on that might latch onto the idea, but I do not see it gaining credibility. If nothing else, shrewd politicians are going to want to see how things with the KRs play out. There's a powershift going on, even more so with Sadeas's removal. I"m not even sure how much trouble he could have really caused -- he may have been overplaying his hand when Adolin snapped.

I'm with Pathfinder that the end results ultimately matter. Hitler is an obvious example of someone taking his beliefs way too far. And no, Godwin's Law does not apply given this is a valid comparison. However, we have yet to see even hints of proof that the Sons of Honor have been effective enough to offset Sadeas's misdeeds, if indeed they have had any meaningful effect. Maybe we'll learn more in SA3. But based on the evidence we currently have, it has to go to Sadeas.

Also, Brandon has been really big on scientific accuracy, but not so much on the medical side. For example, he will go to extra lengths to try and address why there is no red-shift for a speed bubble, the locked rotation of a planet, etc. but basically just hand-waves "it's magic" when it comes to how someone can heal and keep all their memories after their head is blown off or how an Inquisitor can function with spikes through it's brains. The more something is Science/Physics the more he seems to care, and the less so for biology and medical stuff (not saying he does not care about those, but he clearly cares about one more than the other). To be fair, we probably do not want to read too many details about the digestive process, and that would change the tone of the books (crude jokes...). Also, we know for Mistborn he wants to go Sci-Fi, so paying more attention to physics makes sense.

Yeah, but it's interesting the word "dragon" does not appear in any other published Cosmere books. EDIT!!! Word of Brandon on this via Twitter!!! Question: Brandon:
-
We know Dalinar curses the Nightwatcher for the lost memories. I think you make your wish and take your chances. Seems pretty clear it is not a fully known process, and I seriously doubt how the boon or bane are implemented is explained to the one making the wish. Wasn't there one person that ended up seeing everything upside down afterwards? I think that wish went well and he lived with the boon. On the the other hand, Dalinar and Lift's results do not match their expectations. If details are explained to the wisher, they must be in some legal-ese type format that many have a hard time comprehending.

True, but that doesn't mean the SoH had been formed yet. Mr. T was involved back then too, but did his own thing.
