  1. We’ve actually seen allomancy being used, actually. I want to see someone being asked where they came from, only to ask for a star map. Then, after considering for a moment, points to a star and goes “there. That’s where my planet is.”
  2. Cultivation. I’m a mom. It works. Devotion otherwise. Or Ambition, assuming Ambition is drive. Maybe Endowment? Oddly enough, all of these were held by females. Maybe the original Vessels let the girls go first?
  3. There are people out there named Tom Riddle... Yes, Harmony gave them that technology. They haven’t actually progressed much beyond what he gave them, at least according to what Saze tells Wax.
  4. The thing is, it seems to have been the last push for Kell to snap, because something is weird about that too. Thirty-five is really old for snapping. Since Allomancy comes of an inborn Connection to Preservation, Ruin interfering are that moment could have prevented that from happening, especially considering how hard it was for Kell to snap in the first place. That whole thing is weird. Also, Survive is the command of self-preservation. I don’t see Ruin giving that command, particularly when it seems to have stuck around. And Kell wasn’t spiked, and Ruin was better trapped then than he was when the Well was nearly full. So I doubt it was Ruin. I don’t think it was a Dawnshard either, though the Kandra homeland nearby would be a good place to hide one. Here’s a weird thought: what if it was one of the other Shards who were spying on Scadrial at the time?
  5. The metal plate, which we never hear of again, inscribed with a strange language. If anything is connected, it’s probably that. The fact that Wax never seems to see that plate is very telling. That would be just like Brandon; mention something important in passing, so we can go back later and cry in awe at his foreshadowing. I mean, “They say I will hold the future of the entire world on my arms.”
  6. If the origin cells came from a non-kosher animal, odds are it’s still not-kosher. Note the pot problem. Now, if the cells were taken from fecal matter, that might be fine, because that’s not necessarily considered from the animal. And, believe it or not, the Rabbis kind of talk about this issue in the Talmud. Although there the meat in question was created by God. Generally that gets brought up in relation to this question. The Talmud has some weird, but oddly relevant, discussions. Weird, because they discuss a lot of laws about things that don’t normally happen - like created meat - that suddenly became relevant 2000 years later. And then they’ll go off to talk about a world serpent... or whether or not a man can married with a basket of stolen fruit.
  7. I was talking about why a lot of people jumped on Survive as a possible Dawnshard command. It’s because we’ve seen that command before, and there was a similar description regarding how it felt when given. That doesn’t mean that particular command came from a Dawnshard.
  8. I didn’t say it was a Dawnshard, just that something was odd. Leras should not have been able to talk to Kell. I do think there is an implication that something gave Kell an extra push to finally be able to snap. I don’t think we know of anyone else who snapped in their mid-thirties after living a life like Kell’s. I think most of us just found Kell’s description of the event very reminiscent so took the word. Exist, continue, etc., could work too. Survive just has a nice ring - and a nice history - to it.
  9. I came from WoT too! I think David Eddings put it best really. “Notice that I didn’t say ‘wanted to be a writer’. ‘Want’ has almost nothing to do with it. It’s either there or it isn’t. If you happen to be one, you’re stuck with it. You’ll write whether you get paid for it or not. You won’t be able to help yourself. When it’s going well, it’s like reaching up into heaven and pulling down fire. It’s better than any dope you can buy. When it’s not going well, it’s much like giving birth to a baby elephant.” (Excerpt from Eddings, D. & Eddings, L. (n.d.). The Rivan codex. Random House Publishing Group) I’m a writer. If I don’t write, I’m not happy. Brandon is a writer. He HAS to write. Writing isn’t a choice; it’s a necessity. The words want to be written. Writing WELL is another thing entirely.
  10. We’re supposed to think so, but it doesn’t quite add up. First: why that word? The first time it had no real meaning to Kell. Two: the placement is odd, because it was right by Ruin’s Perpendicularity. Three: Preservation can’t talk to people, especially people who aren’t really Connected to him. Four: if Leras could just snap someone, why did he need Elend to swallow Lerasium? The last two being the biggest problems. Something weird happened at the Pits. What exactly that was is... unclear. Maybe it was Preservation’s voice. But it might not have been. Kell thinks it was, but Kell could very easily be wrong.
  11. What he does is he switches projects. That usually can work. He also forces himself to write. When I wrote my book, I made myself write one chapter every night. I don’t have time now because of college, unfortunately. When I have time again I’ll try to finish the book I started just before college got crazy. Right now, the only things I’m writing are papers. The last of which was fifty pages long before double-spacing, and written over the course of a week. Writing a lot is easy. Writing something good and original is hard. The wonder isn’t how fast Brandon writes; it’s how good and original his work is.
  12. Not only don’t they have the right flora, they don’t have the right person. The Sequoia trees are named for Sequoya, the man who created the Cherokee syllabary. (Fascinating man, and I recommend looking him up.) I agree that it’s a great name for Cord though. I wrote a 100k book in two months. When you’re pulling fire from the heavens, it can happen. And then there are times when the words won’t come no matter how hard you try. And the stories that come piecemeal. And so on. But when you get fire... then it’s like the words are already there, and you’re just a conduit to put them on the page.
  13. Unite is a consideration because of what happened with Dalinar. Survive is considered because of how Kell describes hearing the word in the Pits. Act, which is what I’m currently calling the hypothesized will/drive Shard, is because it fits with what little we know.
  14. We might get the Vax one and Isaac might actually write 3. And we will get some Nightside Taldain eventually, even if it’s in a graphic novel.
  15. Two of them, and only one was a god at the time. But he didn’t boast about that. He did boast about tricking Ruin though.
  16. No cheese though... Poor Hoid. Most cheese is made with animal renin.
  17. Oh, lol, yes! I get it now, thanks. My underlying theory is that because Scadrial was created post-shattering, it reflects the nature of the post-Shattering Cosmere. And, seriously. Four groups with four parts each. The number 16, which is important to Scadrial and the Cosmere as a whole. Mistborn being the Cosmere endgame It’s practically screaming - “There’s a Connection here!!” and now we finally have a hint as to WHY there is one.
  18. If you keep kosher there’s a lot of reasons beyond lard that you can’t eat it... Oh, Shards! I hope Hoid doesn’t have to deal with THAT level of restriction. “No, see, if it’s cooked in a meat pot it gets the FLAVOR of meat, so it’s meat. And if it’s not-kosher or treif meat then it gets the flavor of that, so it’s the same as eating it.” ”So...” ”So that pot means it’s meat and not-kosher.” ”..... But there’s no meat in it!” ”But there was yesterday!” Gotta love Judaism. We have the craziest rules.
  19. Actually, my reasoning has more to do with Kell hearing the command Survive at the Pits of Hathsin. When Rysn heard the command, it reminded me very vividly of that.
  20. So my reasoning is as follows: Ruin is the force of Entropy, which exists outside the individual. It’s also the ultimate end, which everyone is pulled toward. Also, Ruin is specifically not the destruction of the individual. Cultivation is obviously external; it’s someone from outside affecting change on growth. Endowment is internal, because people are naturally Endowed with certain abilities and rights. Even her magic system is similar; the people are born with inherent extra Investiture. Endowments can be internal. Dominion is external, because it has to with land ownership. That’s obviously outside the individual. It’s the bond between a person and a physical place. Devotion is internal, because it’s the bonds between people. Honor I see as internal, because Honor is individual. Everyone has a different idea of what is honorable and what is binding. A Highspren can accept a Skybreaker loyal to the Pirate or Thieves code. Something like Law or Judgement would be external, but Honor is an internal force in all of us. I actually think this grouping is where we would have a Knowledge/Wisdom shard, as the bonds of learning are an external bonding force. Ambition can pull as much as it pushes. Ambition pulls you forward. I see hatred, and passion in general, as fueling actions and ambitions. Or: Odium is the more passive force, while Ambition is more active. I could see them swapped though. I really see these two as almost like Tin and Pewter, where the push/pull isn’t as obvious or Brass and Zinc, where both result in the same thing. So it’s kind of hard to say. I’m going with Survive, because we’ve seen that particular Command. I think a lot of us went “Oh, that explains it!” regarding a certain odd event on Scadrial as soon as we learned about Dawnshards. I actually thought this one would be some variant of “Be” but not “Be” itself. Exist, Survive, etc. And Survive is the one we actually heard spoken. I don’t know if I agree that the Shards were once Dawnshards. If they were though, I agree on who had what, with one exception: I think Ambition held the ‘drive to act’ Dawnshard.
  21. Good thing he isn’t allergic to vegetables. Which is an actual thing, btw. It’s a very rare digestive disorder. Also, good thing he isn’t part of a religion that considers eating meat a commandment. Because those exist too. Also a good thing he doesn’t suffer from protein deficiencies, especially since the Cosmere doesn’t seem to have supplements. Man must eat lots of eggs, yogurts, beans and seaweed. And no pastries in places that don’t have butter, so use animal fats instead. Ouch. You realize how annoying this must be on Roshar? If they don’t have a butter alternative, they’re probably using animal fats to cook. That’s most of the dishes eliminated...
  22. Quoted from my topic on a similar concept: If Cultivation, Endowment and Ruin are three parts of the ‘Change’ group, then there’s a very good argument for it. E internal; R & C external. R pulling; E & C pushing. I think this group would probably match the physical quadrant. The other likely possible threesome is Honor, Devotion and Dominion. H & De would be internal; Do would be external. H would be pulling and De would be pushing. I’m not sure whether Do would be pulling or pushing. They’d correspond to the Spiritual/ Enhancement quadrant. This grouping would have a Dawnshard about bonds. Unity? I think Ambition and Autonomy are together. If Odium is telling the truth about being ‘Passion’ then it goes here too. Assuming they form a three parts of four: Am & O are internal; Au is external. Am is pulling and O & Au are pushing. This group would probably correlate to the Cognitive/Mental group. This Dawnshard probably has something to do with drive or will. Preservation would be the only known member of the fourth group (unless Odium is actually ‘Void’). P would be external pushing, and the quadrant would correlate to the Temporal/Hybrid group. This Dawnshard probably has something to do with existence/survival. (Possibly irrelevant, because of two feruchemical metals being swapped, but the Hybrid grouping of Feruchemy includes elements necessary for survival - air, food, health, and the will to survive.) If I’m right about all this, then: Change: Cultivation, Endowment, Ruin. Missing: Internal Pulling Shardic intent. Unify?: Honor, Devotion, Dominion. Missing: External Shardic intent; push/pull status unknown. Act?: Ambition, Autonomy, Odium? Missing: External Pulling Shardic intent. Survive?: Preservation. Missing: Internal pushing and pulling and External pulling. Note: I see Pulling as more active and Pushing as more passive. So Ruin ‘pulls’ things toward destruction, while Cultivation ‘pushes’ them to accomplish. I also think ‘pushing’ Shards may be better at seeing the future, but that that is further varied by intent. End quote. Part of this theory is that Allomancy reflects the Dawnshard/Shard quadrants due to Scadrial being created AFTER the Shattering. Where the other planets adapted to the changes, Scadrial was created in a new reality and it, and its magic systems, reflect that. I love the idea of Purpose. As a verb, I have the word Act right now. Survive is likely to be accurate I’m pretty sure it’s the one Hoid held.
  23. Destruction is a part of change, most likely. Live or Survive, with the latter currently being more likely due to Unite, because of Dalinar and Unity. I think the last would be Act, as in ‘perform an action.’
  24. I don’t think Dalinar fears his bloodlust though. I think he fears his guilt. That’s what Odium tempted him with, and that’s what he faced and surpassed. So Dalinar’s epic weakness would be guilt.
  25. Yolen. Followed by Ashyn, depending on what we mean by worldhopping. Next is Sel, as the Ire have quite a few members. Scadrial, based on what we know: Demoux, Felt, two people based on the 17th Shard, at least two different Terris people, Iyatil’s ancestors, at least one Kandra, and possibly Kell. So... a lot. Nalthis: we know of six worldhoppers. The five scholars and Roshar. We actually don’t know of many Roshar-born worldhoppers. If you’re LOOKING for worldhoppers though...
