The Cosmere buildup is likely due to SA 6-10 involving more Cosmere plots. Especially since the Ghostbloods - who are very, very heavily implied to be led by a certain scarred Scadrian - seem to being setup as future antagonists.

Yeah... Kell would never be on board with that. Stick the gemstone in a very obvious place, like a lamp, where no one thinks to look? Oh, totally. Keep it for study? Sure. Sell it? Why not? Do something someone ELSE wants done...? Yeah, not happening.

To be fair: Kell is trapped on Scadrial right now. So odds are he’s giving directions and trusting his core crew to carry them out. Said core is then recruiting their own crews to help. But he’s not on top of it, and he can’t personally meet/vet every new recruit. And the GBs are much bigger than his old crews. So bad apples are much more likely to occur and tasks are more likely to be carried out in ways he wouldn’t approve of. That said, the overriding feel of the Ghostbloods was always that of something Kell would do.

There are plenty of Radiant Orders who would have been fine with what Adolin did.

Whimsy may be Curiosity and probably covers Madness. Independence and Autonomy are synonyms. Odium seems to include Wrath. Ruin is entropy, which covers Chaos.

Calling him the Lord of Scars, followed by something that appears to reference SH, after all but telling us that Thaidakar is a CS... That’s more than just red herrings. If he hadn’t used the title I’d agree, but with it... There’s only one person in the Cosmere that associated with scars who also fits neatly every other hint. If it isn’t Kell, there should be an equally obvious hint to it being another character. The fact that there isn’t, and this being book four, makes that very unlikely. Before this Thaidakar could have been anyone and we wouldn’t have been disappointed. With this, if it turns out to be someone else it’ll feel a lot like someone dragged the rug out from under us. If you are layering your foreshadowing to indicate something, you don’t do a bait & switch at the last minute for shock value. That’s how you upset your readers. If you are going to subvert expectations then you have to layer it in. But you do NOT build up an expectation solely to knock it down. No one expected Thaidakar to be Kell. Considered it: sure. Debated: definitely. Joked about: 100%. But I doubt anyone completely and truly believed that Brandon would make a Rosharan antagonist turn out to be a Mistborn protagonist. Not when he kept saying you didn’t need to read the other Cosmere books (to be fair, you don’t - yet). There was NO REASON to imply that Thaidakar was Kell. Until this book nothing had done so that couldn’t also refer to any of a dozen other characters. The ONLY reason to create that expectation now is to hint to us who Thaidakar is. Now that Brandon’s built the expectation it’s unlikely he’ll knock it down for ‘gotcha!’ points. He’s too experienced a writer to go in for such cheap tricks. If he’d wanted to minor troll us he’d have stuck to hinting that Thaidakar is a CS. He wouldn’t have dropped the very blatant ‘Lord of Scars’ hammer. There are ways to do Red Herrings. Telling us Thaidakar was a CS is a possible Red Herring. CS+ Lord of Scars + Hoid has/can beat him up + implied to be stuck on his homeworld? That’s deliberately building an expectation - and if a writer builds those, he’d better deliver.

I kind of want this novella more than any other series right now. Roshar and Scadrial and the Cold War (because this is exactly what this sounds like). When are we getting Mistborn Era 4 again...?

The timeline doesn’t work though. The Set were likely active for about a decade before Wax returns to Elendel. At this point in time Harmony is already sending/has sent Palm to Wax. The timeskip is only 5/10 years, right? And the Era2 books have already covered about three years of that time. Honestly, T is more likely to go after Nalthis. You want interference? How about that Shard Endowment who decided to send Nightblood over to Roshar... Pretty sure that exceeds anything Kell did.

Did anyone actually expect to get ‘all but stated’ confirmation? I’m still reeling over the fact that Brandon did this, despite saying for years that the Ghostbloods felt EXACTLY like Kell’s kind of games.

You are awesome! The funny thing about 10 is that a lot of us seem to have felt that Thaidakar/Ghostbloods FELT like Kell, but couldn’t quite believe that Brandon would actually have a SA antagonist be a protagonist of another series. And then he did.

Rashek knew of those metals and suppressed the knowledge. We don’t know that they weren’t known at some point. Rather the opposite; Preservation makes it clear that they WERE known at some point. He’s horrified when he realizes that Ruin has managed to suppress the knowledge. So: the metals were definitely known at one point. They may have been known during Rashek’s time, but they may not. An ancient Feruchemist from Scadrial’s past could know of those metals. Even if not, odds are they experimented with aluminum and allomantic metals come in pairs... It’s also possible that Zinc could be used to learn faster, especially when paired with Copper.

Or it could increase the power of her resonance. I’d think it would effect the strength of her powers.

Unless she’s one of the pre-Rashek Feruchemists. Which is possible.

Kell being Thaidakar does not equal the Ghostbloods not being totally evil, but I never really thought they were. Highly immoral, definitely. Evil likely comes down to the individual members. Better question: why aren’t Kell and Saze talking? Kell had better show up in TLM, so Wax can ask... all the wrong questions... which Kell isn’t even going to answer properly... Considering how close Teft came to swearing it, it seems to be about forgiving one’s self/accepting one’s weaknesses.

Also worth noting that Vasher is fine; it’s possible Endowment does something to protect her Returned. It may have to with their Divine Breaths, considering that Breath seems to act as an external memory storage device.
