I'm a native English speaker, but I've taken 2.5 years of German classes at BYU, so I can make myself understood in most mundane, everyday topics all right. I've been able to stumble through a few novels in German--mostly ones I've read before in English, though, like Cornelia Funke's Dragon Rider (Drachenreiter is the German title) and Dan Wells's John Cleaver books. Funny story: the reason I originally decided I wanted to learn German was because of the Marvel character Nightcrawler from the X-Men. (This was after I watched the original trilogy of X-Men movies for the first time. )

I'm curious about this too. Welcome to the forums! If anyone offers you a "cookie", think carefully before taking it, because it's actually a hemalurgic spike.
-
I do believe this is a worthy cause. (I have been warning new Sharders about "cookies" ever since I figured out what they were, so it's kind of "duh" for me to join.) Count me in!

I would be happy to! I'll be right over to make the pledge.

Sunbird, too, glances at Chasmfiend's member title. "Once I would have challenged your claim to that title, but these days I am forced to spend much of my time in other, more boring pursuits, such as world history," she says, sighing.

I didn't buy anything today, but on Friday I bought Bluescreen by Dan Wells (because this is the guy who wrote the incredibly awesome John Cleaver books) and on Saturday I bought The Crystal Bridge by Charlie Pulsipher (because I can't say no to an author trying to sell me their book at a convention). That was at LTUE.

Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox, doing their mariachi-style cover of "Wake Me Up" by Avicii.

Finished reading Bluescreen by Dan Wells yesterday and thought it was pretty fantastic.
-
That IS a tragedy! I hope the German editions come out soon for you.

Awesome! I'll be cosplaying Prof (I know I won't be the only one going as Prof, but I probably will be the only woman doing so), so come say hi if you see me!
-
The timing might have been wrong, since different artists were at the tables at different times throughout the convention.

Welcome, welcome! If you're looking for interesting, you're definitely in the right place. All sorts of craziness goes on here. (Word of warning, though: the "cookies" you will likely be offered are hemalurgic spikes. Think carefully before accepting one.) Since you've read the Reckoners, I have to ask: are you going to be able to make it to one of Brandon's Calamity tour stops? I've been trying not to flip out about the release party at the Orem Barnes and Noble, because the Reckoners is one of my favorite of Brandon's series, along with Stormlight and Alcatraz.

You get an upvote for having such a cool username by random typing. Welcome! If you consider yourself crazy, you're absolutely in the right place. We're all mad here.

Hahaha, I see what you did there. "Spiking" the beverages... hemalurgy... get it? =D

Liable to swallow you whole and spit you out a changed person. Buying books is like eating at a buffet.

So I just went back and re-read Firefight to prepare for the release of Calamity, and Tia is described as redheaded. So now I'm imagining her as Julianne Moore. She seems about the right age to be Prof's peer, plus I think she did a great job in The Hunger Games of being a serious leadership figure. For Mizzy, I think Amandla Stenberg, the actress who played Rue in the first Hunger Games movie, might be a good fit. That's about the only really big thing she's been in, but I liked her performance as a sweet girl in a tough situation.

She was in the artist's alley on Friday, at least, and she was selling posters. I am now the proud owner of two pony/Stormlight crossover posters.

Sunbird seizes the lifeline Kit has offered her and quickly says, "Yes! I said I would wager my big toe, not that I was actually putting it up for the taking." She eyes ChickenPlague suspiciously.

Sunbird, glaring at ChickenPlague, kicks the spoon straight up so that it impales the ceiling and sticks there, quivering. She pulls out a small dagger from seemingly nowhere and waves it under ChickenPlague's nose. "In case you get any more ideas..." she says darkly before secreting the dagger upon her person once more.

"Do or do not; there is no try."

Sounds great! I've decided to wear an Indiana Jones-style fedora to LTUE this weekend, so if you see me, come introduce yourself! I'd love to meet any of you guys in person and geek out about stuff.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Sunbird replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you have a dream that you got an early copy of Calamity and then are sad when you wake up and it's not real. -
"Well, think about it," says Sunbird. "A bookie is the edible embodiment of a character, correct? Think of how ill-tempered chasmfiends are. Pack all that bad attitude into a little bookie and it's bound to make you sick." She pauses thoughtfully. "Or maybe the sour temperament wouldn't be harmful to someone equally as grumpy as a chasmfiend."
