The animation is really quite impressive (I'll try to keep away from "a" adjectives if I can ). I still feel like the original mistborn trilogy sort of deserves a classical style movie, but that doesn't change the fact that this is incredibly well done (there, now I'm using all "i" adjectives... hm... I wonder if people unconsciously do this very often?). The drawer's way of depicting steelpushes was inventive (now I'm just doing it on purpose). Also they appear to have done a second mistborn scene.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

Hm... Granted. Through hemalurgy. The holes torn into your soul make you so vulnerable to the thrill that an unmade of Odium possesses you. You become the appointed champion of Odium. I wish for a lump of Honor's god metal (Tanavastium?) -
Logically, there are many cases in which they take sideline roles. And they definitely can't strive to take the roles in culture that Vin, Kelsier, and Sazed took. All of those three literally held divine power at some point and are major figures both in the history of the human race on Scadrial and in all the major religions of Scadrial. This being said... I highly doubt they will be completely relegated. I think, Sanderson being a good storyteller, he will want to weave in their mark on Scadrial's culture (How could you write four in depth books and then disregard their future impacts? Historically it happens sometimes, but considering this is being written to make a good story, I don't know if it will happen). It could be as small as a nod like reading about Wax Dawnshot in a history book, but it could be anything more, like them becoming common household names, depending on how the fourth era 2 book goes.
-
That hoid dude who was Kelsier's informant is pretty underrated. He was just some random skaa that Kelsier paid for information, but still, for some reason I think we overlook him a lot and he might be important.

Yes. This is very much how I see it as well. Indeed. It has been mentioned I think. But on this topic... What are the physical requirements of a kandra? From this I presume they can get dehydrated, which I suppose makes sense... Other than a "brain", are there any physical organs that a kandra must always incorporate into their biology? Interesting questions, these...

@Spoolofwhool You have some interesting thoughts here. One thing I would like to note though... You speculated that the heralds were once regular humans who honor elevated to be the heralds. This in particular I'm not so sure about. The physical characteristics of the heralds imply that they weren't regular Roshar inhabitants. They look... Well they look something like a normal human would look to a Roshar variant. They look like what the original Yolen template of human looked like (what inhabitants of Roshar see as something between Shin and Alethi genetics). Now, that being said, I doubt they came from Yolen. Rather, I predict that Honor/Cultivation created the heralds.

Maybe Sanderson wants people to keep their own pronunciations for it. Even so I do wonder how Sanderson envisioned some of those names being pronounced. "Sadeas" could have a few different pronunciations I think. -
Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
DrakeMarshall replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
^^^this is the way to go The nightwatcher grants you a sort of strange case of psychosis. Every now and then, whether you want to or not, you switch personalities. Each personality has a very specialized skill set, and they are very, very good at their specialization. But not very good at other things. It should be interesting... I wish Oathbringer comes out earlier than is currently planned. -
Well, in the very least, it is safe to assume that gemhearts were something that either honor or cultivation designed some life on Roshar to have, partially because these life forms can't live without the gemheart, but partially because these gemhearts can grant humans access to a lot more gemstones than what we might find on Earth. A little bit like how Scadrial probably has a lot of metal on it to mine. Those are natural resources that are important to their respective planets.

Hm... I know a good way to determine if something is cosmere... Can anyone think of something that has a character that could be hoid? That's a lot of how people put together the greater cosmere in the first place.

Anyone else have this issue with pronunciations? I think of someone's name being pronounced in a certain way and then find other people have all these other ways to say the name. For example I always thought of Sazed's name being pronounced "sah-zed". When my friend read mistborn he pronounced it as one syllable, as if it rhymed with raised (which I suppose is a more phonetic pronunciation than mine). But storm it that's not his name! Also, Kelsier is 48? I don't believe it. -
Hm... In Mistborn, the purpose of champions was to operate outside the balance of things. Ruin and Preservation virtually paralyzed each other, but they could still use beings closely connected to them like Marsh and Elend as their agents. I'm not sure if it's the same in Stormlight Archive or not. I feel like there is something more going on here. Anyway, that all being said, I feel like the heralds were sort of champions of honor. Somehow, the oathpact does seem to have constrained odium to the greater roshar system. I think prison might not be the best word, but there is something going on... Especially since Odium is still constrained to greater Roshar and the heralds abandoned the oathpact centuries ago. Also, I don't think that the Heralds abandoning the oathpact was immediately responsible for Honor's death. Tanavast's visions asks people to refound the Knights Radiant, and depicts the recreance. So, considering that he is so terrible at seeing the future that he has managed to inspire a religious suspicion of any kind of precognition, I'm guessing that he was around for the recreance and some following events. And the recreance happened a pretty long time after the heralds abandoned humanity I think.

Granted. In exchange, you hear everything with a faint echo. I wish for three emerald broams. -
I'm pretty sure nicrosil could actually do this. It might take a lot of storage to get as much power as a full Elantrian, but I think nicrosil is capable of storing more than just your status as an Allomancer of Feruchemist. Indeed, considering that behind the scenes, Allomancy and AonDor work in a very, very similar way, I am almost positive that you could gain power to use AonDor for a short time with an unkeyed nicrosil mind. Or if you were an elantrian who had a nicrosil medallion of the right construction (two seperate pieces of nicrosil would be required), you might be able to make your Aons more powerful for a short time.

I like this theory. It considers some very good points. I bet that greatshells probably are designed to give people gemstones. Also, as you reference Shin culture, it is interesting to note that those in the west tend to mirror cultivation's intent more. It mentions several times in WoK that cultivation dwells more in the west and honor dwells more in the east. As for Cultivation maybe not working with Honor anymore, which you leave off at... I have a theory founded on exactly that thought. With some elaboration. There is one point I might need to disagree on here though. I'm not so sure that fighting is completely outside of Cultivation's abilities. All spren lie somewhere on the spectrum of Honor and Cultivation (except for voidspren which are 100% Odium), and some spren that are mostly cultivation can form a nahel bond and result in radiants (for example, edgedancers, but I bet there are others). So Cultivation is, to some extent, involved with creating radiants (otherwise only spren made of mostly honor could bond I would guess). Also, things like the nightwatcher imply that Cultivation isn't so benign as to be unable to hurt someone (nor does it reflect an intent of giving because the net result is balance, not gain)... Also, I'm pretty sure Sanderson once said Cultivation's intent is somewhat compatible with Ruin's intent. Point is, while I'm sure Cultivation is trying to fight Odium and all, I'm pretty sure she is capable of harming people if she wants to. So, if Cultivation can hurt people, how did Odium stand a chance against two shards? I personally believe he played them against each other a little bit. They might not have ever openly fought each other, but they weren't unified enough to keep Odium from simply killing one of them. It doesn't help that Odium seems to have a knack for turning a shard's intent against itself, using things like the thrill to abuse people's sense of honor in fighting.

I know hemalurgy can steal identity in some way... Granting full access to a set of metalminds though? Impressive. When you have time would you mind showing me where you saw that? That sounds interesting. -
compiling list Complementing powers
DrakeMarshall replied to Oversleep's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Quite true. You have to be careful about where you anchor yourself. Hm... Also, has it been mentioned to combine soulcasting and soulforging? Soulcasting can change the material of an object, which is something soulforging has trouble with. Soulforging can bring about much more precise small changes without much difficulty though, which is something that is very difficult to do in soulcasting. When combined, these two tools would complement each other and generally let you reshape objects around you to your will. Also, if we extend this to being a full lightweaver and a full maipon forger... Lightweaving can quickly change your appearance, while forging can, with more preparation, grant you a disguise that can withstand a lot more scrutiny. Plus with lightweaving you could cover up the stamp mark on your body without much trouble at all. And also the general talents of individuals that follow these two arts seem to coincide a little bit. This combination isn't even so very far fetched; someone could theoretically learn forgery and then worldhop to Roshar where they might well attract a cryptic. Edit: Storms it has been mentioned. Well, the above is more reason why these two are really complimentary. Also another combination that is more a prediction than anything else: Identity feruchemy and southern scadrial's "fabrials". In the modern era scadrial I am expecting these devices to be a major part of their modern technology. And it strikes me that, if you were to make some kind of allomantic/feruchemical computer... Feruchemical identity is an incredibly effective method of authentication. I can already envision some security protocols that would use feruchemical identity to authenticate. Because, you can't exactly forge another person's spiritual identity to impersonate them. Unless maybe you used soul forging, which nobody has access to on Scadrial so far as we have seen. -
Yes... Someday we will have this. It will probably result in some very good productions. Although things like Gollum, Snoke, Rocket, and Groot are actually perhaps easier to do than a normal human. Because I mean, Gollum and Snoke are meant to look a little off. And Rocket and Groot certainly aren't meant to pass off as normal.

@Spoolofwhool I like this one. Also with this power they could anchor themselves with a full lashing, and then steelpush as hard as they want and win any kind of pushing match. The benefits are similar to those enjoyed by Wax as a crasher. -
People you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley
DrakeMarshall replied to Voidus's topic in The Alleyverse
Hm... Here's another question. If atium can act like a wildcard as a spiking material, could you copy the effects of lerasium hemalurgy with an atium spike? I think you could, because on the flip side, burning lerasium will grant you atium allomancy. Although, getting the baby to burn lerasium and then giving it hemalurgic spikes would make it into a super-inquisitor. If the spikes granted feruchemy, then you would have a baby who was more powerful than the Lord Ruler. So... Don't bring small children into the dark alley unless you want them to be fed spiked cookies. -

DrakeMarshall replied to Voidus's topic in The Alleyverse
Welcome to the dark alley. As for your anti-jokes... Ten trash cans in one baby is worse than either of your options. Just saying. And ten hemalurgic spikes in one baby is maybe worse than that. Can you imagine a baby koloss? Or a baby steel inquisitor? Storms that sounds so profoundly screwed up. -

What makes you think that a towel is only useful for drying yourself off? You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (a mind-bogglingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you — daft as a brush, but very very ravenous); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course you can dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough. More importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: nonhitchhiker) discovers that a hitchhiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, washcloth, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet-weather gear, space suit etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitchhiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitchhiker might accidentally have "lost." What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the Galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with. Drying oneself off is a minor function. -

Hm... Some of the latest suggestions are good ideas. Also... Lightweaver, feruchemical copper, tin allomancy, heightenings. Words of Radiance noted that all lightweavers seem to have photographic memory (something Shallan seems to confirm). This lets them store a very high quality memory. Copper lets you store a larger quantity of memories for a longer time. When we combine them, you can store any number of very detailed images indefinitely. Tin allomancy sharpens your senses and lets you see better. The heightenings augments your senses somehow, though it does something different from what tin does. All of these abilities on their own would be impressive. They would give someone uncanny ability to recall information and to process their surroundings. Together, they are extraordinarily effective. Tin and the heightenings greatly increase the quality of the image you see. Being a lightweaver lets you take a memory of this image in flawless detail. Being a copper feruchemist lets you store that perfect image indefinitely, and you can store as many of them as you want. The result is that you can stash away an obscene amount of information without even half trying. If we want we can throw feruchemical intellect on top of the combination. This lets them look back through their high definition memories and pick out details to analyze, intuitively deciding which ones are important. This is a lot of powers being added at this point... Still, someone with this loadout could easily put Sherlock to shame. -

Granted. You have this power. And I'll even let them not realize you were the one who did it when you use this power. As your bane, for the rest of your life you have a feeling in the back of your mind that you are forgetting something. I wish for a towel. It is, after all, one of the most massively useful things... -
It is possible that Seons and Skaze weren't. It depends on whether they were intentional splinters or if they are unintentional ones that resulted from the shards being splintered. I suspect you are right and that they are unintentional. This would explain perhaps why the do things that Skai would probably not actually want them to, because in all their time existing, Skai has been dead and they have only been influenced by the pure intent of the shard and not the shardholder.
