Interesting theory. One thing to note, it actually does make sense for Dominion to be better at prescience then a lot of shards. Dominion is very closely linked with ambition. Which is very closely linked to foresight. That aside, I don't believe Odium is corrupting the magic of enemy shards like this. It looks a lot more like he is just mercilessly exploiting the intent of enemy shards, because he understands how that intent can cripple his enemies. For example, on Roshar, where Honor's influence is felt... He has one of his unmade create the thrill, which exploits the idea of honor in combat to turn people into bloodthirsty, dishonorable hypocrites. This doesn't directly interfere with honor's magic. It just exploits honor's intent to sow chaos. It looks more like he is corrupting people than that he is corrupting magic. Also, pretty unrelated, but... After killing Aona and Skai on Sel... Might Odium have made the chasm that made Elantris fall as a finishing touch before leaving? I have no idea about the timelines, but it seems somehow fitting if this is indeed the case.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
DrakeMarshall replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Hm... Granted. The nightwatcher gives you what she feels you deserve. You are given a stack of blank DVDs, a high quality video camera, and the latest macbook with video editing software installed. As your bane, whenever you see a plant, it looks like it is dead to you. You could be looking at a nice garden and you will see a field full of dead grass and shriveled bushes. I wish to know the name of the wind. -
This is definitely something on the horizon. And it might have a lot of interesting implications for future movies. But it won't be easy. Because people are so very attuned to the facial appearances of others... Anything slightly off, in such minute ways, will look extraordinarily uncanny to us. In fact, the closer you get to realistic without actually attaining perfect realism, the more uncanny it looks. Now, if we can attain a perfectly natural looking animation then things will suddenly go perfectly. But there is no room for a halfway mark, which is part of why it is hard to make progress. This, by the way, I'm pretty sure is also why Disney likes to stick to stylized images. A stylized image will not come across as unnatural at all, unlike what might happen if they tried to make realistic animated characters but didn't quite get it right.

theory A Crazy Theory on Kandra
DrakeMarshall replied to DrakeMarshall's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think BoM talks about the memory holes and their source yes. Anyway, unless Harmony actually designs a spikeless kandra species, I imagine the kandra population will be fixed at about 300. Still, it won't likely dip below 300 unless they lost the spikes for their dead a lot. I think spikeless kandra would be pretty difficult to make though which is probably why harmony didn't make them. I mean... Their very beings are based on magic. Their consciousness is founded on hemalurgy. It would be hard to redesign them to work off of no magic or with something other than hemalurgy I imagine.- 23 replies

Restares is the one in charge of the Sons of Honor. I doubt he has visions for the reasons Rasarr bring up, but who knows? As for Taravangian (pretty sure you meant Taravangian and not Tanavast) undermining Dalinar... Honor would indeed probably only create one such leader at a time. Taravangian is a testament to the fact that are agendas are also being pushed forward though. I personally have a theory that Taravangian's actions are tied to Cultivation having her own plan to save the world. It's probably hard for Cultivation to coordinate with honor when Tanavast is dead and I think by the definition of shard intents she would have to disagree with Honor on some things anyway.

Well, Sanderson confirmed that C isn't equal to the Stormfather or Nightwatcher... Which makes sense I guess because both of those other two are fully sapient without bonding anyone. Yes, C could be a mix of their investitures... I mean everything on Roshar is basically some mix of honor, cultivation, and odium's investiture (probably with the occasional touch of Adolnasium before the shattering). I actually rather like the idea that C was the spren of the planet. I mean, it seems like a strange idea, but wouldn't a planet have a spren? The godspren are deliberately created as splinters by shards, so it makes sense that those would be vastly more powerful and intelligent than C... But the spren of an entire planet could still be huge. The only thing about this that doesn't seem to line up is that C is affiliated with a very specific time and place. If C was truly the spren of a whole planet I feel it would wander around a lot.

A while ago I saw a fascinating theory that the members of the heirocracy were receiving the same visions and trying to "unite them." I personally think this is actually quite likely. Sunmaker found no evidence of the visions, but they definitely could still have been there. I mean, storms, Dalinar himself thought that what his visions commanded him to do sounded disturbingly like what people did in the heirocracy. I imagine his visions have been visiting people for a long time... The reason Dalinar was able to bond the stormfather when all the other vision recipients weren't is probably because of the coming desolation, because it would seem that spren tend to bond people when a desolation is approaching.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
DrakeMarshall replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted. The nightwatcher informs you that technically he never had to, even if there was some pressure on him to do so. Your bane is that for the rest of your life you speak with a Herdazian accent and wording. As you live on earth, people are always curious to know from what place the accent comes from, and are confused when you tell them it comes from a place that isn't actually real. I wish for a complete copy of The Way of Kings, and by that I mean the one by Nohadon, not the one by Sanderson. Oh and in English lettering please, I don't want to decipher Alethi writing. -
I'm not sure if the primary highlight of mistborn is humor... Maybe. It would sort of make sense. I agree that it would probably be best to not make it a full movie sequel of its own. The ring effect for the cognitive realm would be cool, although probably not the exact same thing. Actually, if it were the exact same thing and went into SH, watching an entire movie with that effect applied might give people headaches. Still, the misty appearance is a step in the right direction for sure. I mean I think it's probably good that some scenes get cut out and reduced. To do a good job converting a book to a movie, sometimes you sort of need to cut out some things and simplify it down a bit. I think Sanderson once said something similar when discussing movies. But an extended edition with Secret History content... Hm... It would be interesting, certainly. I wonder if including Kelsier's story like this would be confusing though, because it would pretty much have to go back and forth between the main story arc and Kelsier simultaneously experiencing the same events. With some truly masterful production it might be feasible though. It would certainly make people more interested in getting the extended version, since it would actually have content that comes from a totally new book.

Will Kelsier Show up in the second Mistborn Trilogy
DrakeMarshall replied to Aeshdan's topic in Mistborn
I bet Kelsier will be involved in some way. I mean, he has already been involved in era 1.5, although we never directly saw him in the story. I'm not sure how his survival factors into plot technique, but I'm sure he will be alive in era 2 so I imagine he will at least be involved on the sidelines. Also speaking of Kelsier and secrets, what if Kelsier was secretly electrum compounder? -
Oh I know that Secret History would be a difficult movie. I'm not necessarily even saying it should be a movie. I'm just saying, once they exhaust mistborn era 1 and mistborn era 1.5, and then things lie fallow for a couple of years, someone will want to come out with another one and look to Secret History. I can see it happening. On the bright side, Sanderson would probably only let someone make that movie if he thought it could actually work (assuming that the secret history rights are sold separately from the main trilogy and second era stuff).

Of Ruin? Well technically he was pretty much black mist. Although we know that Ati had red hair because Sazed saw his body. And in Secret History it describes a slightly more vivid depiction of Ruin, when Kelsier talks to him... However, I think a special effects team would find it very challenging to depict the Secret History description because it was sort of meant to be logic defying. Also what do people think about a Secret History movie? If the trilogy was sufficiently successful, I imagine that movie producers might see Secret History as an attractive means of delivering a sequel.

"You can become a magic system!" "I am a stick." -
I actually kind of like "There's always another secret" better... I mean the "i am what you can never kill, I am hope" works well too, and it is more in line with the immediate story and a little more intense... Thing is, for the first mistborn movie, it would be cool to see "There's always another secret" because it's sort of an iconic Kelsier line. I think some fans would enjoy seeing that in the first ever mistborn movie trailer. Well, I know I would, anyway.

Theory: The Recreance Weakened Cultivation
DrakeMarshall replied to ROSHtaFARian2.0's topic in Stormlight Archive
This theory is fascinating. And probably true. The implications of a weakened cultivation are very hard to guess, because we don't know much anything about her agenda... (Although on the subject of knowing cultivation's agenda, I have a certain crazy suspicion that Taravangian is influenced by cultivation...) Nevertheless, the recreance probably did significantly weaken cultivation. Surgebinding seems like it does involve partially cultivation. I wonder if it is actually fifty fifty though. Well, "weaken" is maybe a difficult term in this case. I suspect that Cultivation didn't actually lose any of her investiture, but it stopped being used as much. Like in the balance between Ruin and Preservation on Scadrial, I imagine that indirect use of power through things like the radiants is crucial in shaping events on Roshar. So the loss of this instrument made things very difficult (much like if Ruin had suddenly lost every single hemalurgic construct, which is in fact what the kandra more or less accomplished... this doesn't really take away from Ruin's power per se, but at the same time it renders him much less effective). Like the fallow seeds you talked about. Also another thing of note... You predict that the return of radiants will start to rebuild cultivation's power. This is a very astute guess. This also means that Honor's power will increase with the return of the radiants. Of coarse, being dead, he won't be able to consciously use it I suspect. But I would hazard a guess and say that if one wanted to reforge honor, refounding the knights radiant would probably be the first of many steps. -
