  1. Oh. Well, that opens a whole new world of possibilities.
  2. It seems to me like it's very similar to the pattern on Dalinar's (?) back on the first cover. Maybe that's just how Michael Whelan paints the Kholin glyph. A question: what is Jasnah doing with this golden wall thing? The description on Tor says she's rebuilding a wall with magic metal, but I don't recall seeing her do anything like it before. Is she soulcasting smoke into metal or something? Still, this cover is fantastic.
  3. This cover is just sooo cool. I love the giant creature in the background. @PallonianFire, she's flying by the power of the Rule Of Cool, which I suspect is the same natural force that is keeping those steps afloat. What I'm personally more curious about is why Ivory decided to take a shape of a sword so big, it could swing Jasnah rather than the other way around. Probably Rule Of Cool, too.
  4. I'd say Terror is very much a godly attribute. If we go with the Christian God (and Brandon's Adonalsium is probably based on this one), you've got dozens of examples of God putting a serious fear of him into the puny mortals. Killing fistborn, giant floods, destroying city walls, blinding a man... Even if we go beyond Christianity, gods are often presented as rather terrifying. Edit: Unless you understood "Terror" as in "The Shard is terrified at all times". Then yeah, it's not very divine.

  12. I've got the book with me, I can search for it. So... The one Lossandin city we get to see is Kezare, which is apparently its capital. Lossande currency is called Lak. The Darksider section of Kezare is called Lonzare. Some of Darksider cultures present there are Irarians and Tiaocians, but there are no Elisians and no guns. A prominent figure there is Loaten, old friend of Khriss' fiancee and a political refugee. His errand girl is called N'Teese. There's a port and a portside market in the Central Kezare. The ruling body of Lossand is the Taisha, and their members are called the Taishin. They meet in the aptly-named Taisha Meeting Chambers. One of the Taishin is Nilto, the Lord Beggar (likely involved in Kezare's organized crime). He has dealings with Loaten. He might be the same person as the infamous crime lord Sharezan. Kezare underground is powerful and far-reaching, but apparently doesn't kill Trackts' families. Another Taishin is Lady Heelis, Lady Judge, in charge of the Trakcts, or the police force. One of the Trackts is called Ais. Heelis' home base is called the Hall of Judgement, while the Tracts operate from the Trackt Hall. Other Taishin are: Lord General (Tower Barracks), Lord Admiral (Helm's Rest), Lord Merchant (the Golden Market of the Guild), Lord Farmer (the Farmer's Congress), Lord Artisan (the Artisan Conference Center), Lord Mason (The Mason Center), and Lord Mastrell (the Diem). Another character in Lossand is Aarik, who's recently returned from the Darkside and who seems to have fondness for vigilantism.
  13. I think hurt -2 is a good option, considering the low speed of this game, though I'd rather other players gave their opinions before starting. Heal Edgedancer, hurt Words of Radiance. 4. 14. Oh. It brings something like "Bonding" to my mind, which I think is a theme that's Honor's taken up already. If we go with the idea that Shards reflect emotional states or motivations of the Vessels, Fear fits like a glove, and the pairing with Enlightment/Knowledge feels natural, especially seeing how they're not supposed to be exact opposites the way Ruin and Preservation are. I'm not sure if you could find fear in Adonalsium, though. Would a god fear?
  15. This is awesome, why didn't I see this thread until now? I definitely want to try those cards out on xyzzy.

  17. I'm definitely going to the Warsaw signing. My phone has a recording app and a pretty decent range on the microphone, so I'm okay with leaving it on the table to record everything. And if there's going to be a moderator present to translate for people who don't speak English well, the problem with the asker being too far away might be alleviated. I've never been to any meeting with an author, though, so two newbie questions: is there anything I should know? How do those events look like, actually?
  18. That's a good possibility, and it would permit intents like Enigma, Tribulation, etc. This being said, the truth is probably somewhere in-between - that the Shards are aspects of Adonalsium which the Vessels found the most important, and which correlate to their motivations behind slaying the god. To me, those feel too close to one another to be separate Shards; I'd fold those together into something like Enlightment or Knowledge. I've been thinking about Synthesis/Amalgamation/etc., and I feel like I don't quite understand what people mean by this. Are we talking about thing monism, AKA "everything is one thing"? Because that seems like less of a Shardic intent and more like something that you'd get if you've stitched Adonalsium back together (though "Monism" does sound a bit like a shard name, in the vein of Odium).
  19. That's an interesting discussion. I'd look at it from another angle, though. There's a theory going around - I don't believe it's been confirmed - that the 16 Shards we got were influenced by the motivations of the shattering party (supporting this there's a WoB that says Adonalsium could've been split differently). So, let's first think of possible motivations for the Shards we do know. Dominion - wanted to use Adonalsium's power to dominate or conquer Devotion - split Adonalsium for some sort of cause, or for the sake of someone she loved Odium - hated god for one reason or another Autonomy - wanted to break free from the "tyranny of gods" or something Endowment - split the god and give his power to the people Ambition - slaying the god was the last achievement worth pursuing Honor - felt that killing Adonalsium was an honorable thing to do, or was honor-bound to do it Cultivation - use the power of god to cultivate safe habitation zones on Yolen, or something along those lines Preservation - preserve people of Yolen from the fain Ruin - destroy the fain So, going by this pattern, what other motivations could there be? Synthesis/Amalgamation, Tribulation and Enigma - I don't see much possibility here, to be quite honest, as neither seems like a motivation you'd go to kill the god for, or any motivation at all. Justice - seems plausible to me; someone going to kill the god to get justice for something or other. Might overlap with Vengeance, though. Enlightenment - gain divine power to unlock secrets of the universe? Seems like something a hardcore scientist/philosopher could do. Absolution - "kill the god to gain absolution" seems rather backwards to me, but I guess it might not have been god's absolution that this person could be seeking. Purity - purify the world of god? I guess it's possible. Fortune - kill the god to gain luck? Got fed up with the way he runs things, decided they'd make a better manager? You could make something of it, but it seems like a stretch to me. Variability - killed the god because they felt like it that day. Maybe, every cast ensemble needs That One Crazy Character. Belief - killed the god for the cause. Seems kinda close to Devotion to me, but there could be another interpretation. Glory - I'm surprised nobody suggested Glory yet. Divine Glory is a thing that exists, so it fits the "pieces of god" theme. Gaining glory is also an excellent motivation to kill the god, so it fits this theory as well. Then again, it could be too close to Ambition (though I'd argue they're different things, much like Preservation and Cultivation are different).

  21. I want Hoid's musical number to be something like "You're welcome" from Moana, where (Moana spoilers, I guess) he leads his listeners into some magical world with his singing and then it turns out he stole everything from them while they were busy being amazed. Also, each Shard needs its own song. With Bavadin's being a choir piece and her doing all of the voices.
