  3. I wonder, though, what about Taln? Nale broke his oath, but Taln never did, and if we assume that the power level drop is due to Honor being dead, Investiture still never truly dies, and Honor's Cognitive Shadow is part of Stormfather (AKA Roshar's only Stormlight dealer) now. So... would Taln be more powerful than Nale, or would they be on equal level?
  4. Same reason they do this in other countries - for one, they might think that readers might get spooked by a bigger book, and for other, they can make more money if they split it in half. For example, where I live, the book the size of WoK costs about 60 PLN, while a book half that size costs about 40 PLN, so if the publisher split WoK in two (which, thankfully, they didn't), they would make 20 PLN more on every copy.

  6. I have a few comments, design-wise, which I hope don't look like complaining. It's too dour. The background grey stripe could be any colour other than dark grey. I'd say try green, dark blue, maybe orange, like suggested above, and see which one looks best. The grey text could be turned black, which would make it look sharper. The "do you like Brandon's books? Come share your enthusiasm" part could be a little higher - as it is, it seems a bit crowded with the stripe, and leaves a lot of empty space above. I'd also move it just a tad more to the right, but I'm not sure about this. Likewise, the list of features could be moved a bit down as well, and aligned with the "Also hosts Coppermind.net", so that it looks as if "Writings Groups" and it are written on the same line. Speaking of "Also hosts...", it's a tad too close to the black line, though in this case, I'd move the black line up so that the distance to the symbols and to the text would be equal. The symbols could be moved or resized a bit so that they'd fit with the black line beneath them; as it is, the Cosmere symbol stick out a bit. Why use regular font for the "Shard.com" and "The Official" etc.? The logo on top of the forum page is perfectly serviceable, holds the same information and looks so much nicer, not to mention more colourful.
  7. Are we talking about Harmony-Sazed? If so, I'm definitely picking Sazed, because one should never pass on the opportunity for learning Realmatics from a Shard. If we're talking pre-Harmony Sazed, though, I'd pick Jasnah, because she seems to be a better teacher of the two, even if she's stern. If given an opportunity to learn one of Cosmere's great secrets, would you pick turning Stormlight into Breath or Allomantic FTL travel?
  8. @galendo, I admit that such hiccups like starting the conversation at the same time etc. would probably happen, and perhaps should happen, but didn't because it would spoil the twist. I personally believe that Honor could predict Dalinar's words with pretty decent accuracy (Stormfather's looking for similar kind of people, the situation is always the same, and so on; though this is hardly 100% accuracy, as seen when Dalinar grows convinced that he should totally trust Sadeas), and I could argue that, I don't know, Honorbot has a bit of code that tells him 'speak only when Dalinar doesn't', but at this point, this turns into an excercise in making up handwaves on my part, because text evidence of Honorbot's inner workings is nonexistent. I understand why you don't buy this, and I probably won't be able to convince you that it makes sense, because it's less "see this quote that explains it all" and more "well, it seems plausible to me". As for the idea that the Recreance wasn't unanimous, it's an interesting one, and I could believe in this far more than I could in everybody agreeing to breaking their oaths all at once. The Oathbringer description that's been released recently does mention that Shallan is supposed to find some dark, dark secrets in Urithiru; perhaps some Radiants not breaking their Oaths could be one of them (though why that would be a dark, dark secret eludes me). I personally still believe that there's something less than voluntary about the Recreance - again, the way their expression is completely the same on the Day of Recreance is odd (and I don't think this is Honor copy-pasting the same expression on everyone for a made-up vision, he was still alive when that happened), as is the way they seem to be in sync with one another. I don't think they had the opportunity to practice breaking their Oaths together.
  9. I think @hwiles and @The One Who Connects are pretty on point in that the Unmade are the evil spirits of Vorin folk culture. This being said, I find it far more interesting that Shallan's first reaction to seeing a talking animal is "Voidbringer!". I wonder, would a voidspren-possessed Chasmfiend talk? If so, that would be pretty horrifying, but also very, very awesome.
  10. I would argue with this, for three reasons. You are aware of the existence of answering machines. Dalinar is not; moreover, Dalinar has no knowledge of computer games, videos, chatbots, or anything similar. He literally lacks the mental framework necessary to quickly pick up on something like this. Honor has the capacity to see the future to some extent, and has engineered the entire scene. He knows what kind of person he picked up; he can reasonably predict what questions his candidate will ask of the Honorbot. As such, his monologue will fit Dalinar more than an answering machines will fit you. Dalinar, especially later on, feels the need to believe that he's actually talking with some higher entity; he needs to know that he's not crazy and that the Almighty approves of his actions. As such, he might be subconsciously overlooking small details that don't fit in, which could clue another person that they're dealing with an Honorbot. Anyway, back to the topic - I agree that it's unlikely that "the secret" is some bit of knowledge, or some situation which might be engineered. Personally, I find it more likely that the secret is something that will force the Radiants to break their oaths, not because they will learn it and go "oh, hell no!", but because they will be physically (magically?) compelled to do so. Their behaviour in Dalinar's vision of the Recreance is, in my opinion, far too uniform for this to be something... natural, for lack of a better word.

  17. It's like Dalianar is dropped in a video game. People are NPCs with dialogue options, but Honor is too big of an asset for Dalinar to download, so he's just a cutscene.
  18. Stonesculptors: Cohesion and Ilumination. They're known as amazing sculptors because Cohesion lets them shape stone with their bare hands, and they can use Illumination to create 3D concept art which they can later fill in. They sell their work to pay for Knights Radiant expenses. I think you may've just stumbled upon how Skybreakers work
  19. I think it happened long after the Recreance - if I recall correctly, Shallan mentions Scouring at one point, and she talks about it as if it was recent history rather than a mythic event that the Recreance is. The impression I got from that scene (was it when she was chatting with Adolin about Chasmfiend biology? It might've been) was that it happened no earlier than two, maybe three hundred years before the current events.

  24. Brandon Sanderson visiting Poland! And in March, at that, which would mean that it'd after the exam session and I wouldn't feel guilty about it! And it'd be in Warsaw! I really hope this actually happens. I wonder about Part 2 - is it going to visit many different side characters just to show us what's going on all over Roshar? Usually Interludes are the place for that, but maybe, if the events are speeding up... Or maybe it's Brandon just spotlighting some minor characters, seeing how it's apparently cut-able. Also, anybody willing to speculate what those new end pages will contain? If I were to make a baseless speculation, I'd say one of them would be the spren map of Roshar, with spren cities and the like.
  25. Not quite - there are absolutely connected. The Physical Realm stores your body, the Cognitive stores your... sprit/mind thing, while Spiritual Realm stores your soul, understood as a web of Connections of you with various things, ideas and people (Soulcasting works on the Cognitive level, though - also, it seems like "soul" is used quite interchangeably for Cognitive and Spiritual aspects). Now, some creatures, like spren, do not have a Physical aspect, so they exist in the Cognitive, but everything has its Cognitive and Spiritual representation - that's what all the spheres in the Shadesmar are, Cognitive aspects of bricks and walls and candles and everything else. It's like that thing with squares and rectangles - not every rectangle is a square, but all squares are rectangles. Not every Cognitive object has a Physical aspect, but every Physical object has a Cognitive aspect - and, of course, everything has the Spiritual aspect (we don't know if there are any Spiritual-only beings out there). Adding to that, the border between the realms - at least, the Physical and the Cognitive - is less of a sharp divide and more of a... spectrum which you can move on to an extent. Lift and the listeners (Parshendi) are closer to the Cognitive than the run-of-the-mill human - that's why Lift can touch spren and the listeners can see them sprint towards them while regular humans only see them pop up once they're already at the site of a spren-summoning event (like rain for the rainspren). Likewise, a "downward" movement is also possible - every spren that bonds with a human transitions to the Physical Realm, but isn't completely in it, it seems.
