  1. Being as it is three hours into 2019 for me right now, happy New Year! May it bring you lots of good fortune, great successes and excellent WoBs.
  2. "Look at how poorly Odium's doing with Ashyn! It's a good thing we're not letting him into our place."
  3. The Second Ideal of Knights Paramedic. (sorry, bad joke)
  4. "Oh my, Aona and Skai have been shattered? Gee, I wonder who could've done such a thing!" (dunno, this kid's face just looks very devious for me)
  5. The only way this makes sense to me is "they were the first to Recreance (recreant?), and they were the last Knights Radiant".
  6. Mini-thread necro! There's another one in the final chapter, in the wide spread where Kenton raises the fallen building.
  7. Merry Christmas to you too!
  8. I'm curious to see more of Vivienna, and find out what she's up to, other than getting Nightblood back.
  9. Ooh, that's fascinating. I never even thought of trying to decipher the names, and I didn't caught the connection between Ado and Adoda before you pointed it out. I've been looking for any words that sound similar to "ba" or "mishram" over at Coppermind's glyph index, but found nothing. The one thing of note is that Mishram shares the last syllabe with Amaram, but we don't have the meaning of "maram" given ("merem" means honor, though, for what that's worth). Your interpretation sounds pretty valid, and it fits what we know of the glyph grammar (for example, Bridge Four is written "Four Bridge", so adjectives always go before nouns). I'm really not sure what else it could be, apart from really far guesses. "Ba" could be a suffix like "en", so "ba-ado" would be "to enlighten", and "ba-ado-misharm" could mean "one who enlightens", as in "provides forms of power", but enlightening is really more of Sja-Anat's thing, isn't it?
  10. No problem, just bringing it to your attention.
  11. I'd love a Children Of The Nameless-cast, particularly if there was someone willing to explain the Magic references in it.
  12. @StrikerEZ, I do suppose it all comes back to preference. I'm interested in Szeth's background and the Shin (I don't really have the impression that I know much about him at all - pretty much the only thing we know about him from before the Truthless fiasco is that he's trained with all the Honorblades). You're excited for Eshonai. That's fair. Szeth or Eshonai, I'll still be there day one well, month two, Sanderson books are my perennial Christmas gift.
  13. Love it! I like that she didn't wake up completely just after the first oath, would be kind of cheesy otherwise (and your Adolin voice is really good). I don't have any upvotes left today, so have an AO3 kudos.
  14. That is a fair point, though for me, the difference would be in the characters we'd be following. Something I think I've touched on back in the Koloss Head-Munching thread was the difference between Eshonai's and Szeth's knowledge. Eshonai was essentially played - she didn't know what Venli was scheming about until the very end (I really, really want Venli POV flashbacks instead of Eshonai's). I imagine Eshonai's flashbacks will play like a Greek tragedy - we know it's going to go horribly wrong, but she doesn't, and everything she does pushes her a little further towards the catastrophe (not a fan of Greek tragedies, myself...). Szeth, on the other hand, has trained with the Honorblades and appears to be held in some respect before the whole Truthlesness if his claims were considered serious enough to brand him a criminal and kick him out with a magic oath stone. But, well, at the end of the day it's a matter of preference. It's not like Eshonai having flashbacks will stop me from getting excited for SA4.
  15. @StrikerEZ, I'm not opposed to the idea of Eshonai's flashbacks per se, and the worldbuilder in me is quite interested in finding out more about the Listeners. This being said, I'm unexcited right now for a simple reason: Szeth's flashbacks would be more revealing to the story. There are a dozen or so mysteries surrounding the Shin, their religion, how they acquired the Honorblades and how much they know (why did they congratulate Dalinar on the Desolation?). The Listener culture would be interesting from a purely etnographic standpoint, but the Shin are far, far more fascinating to me right now. Quite frankly, I'd be more interested Venli flashbacks. Eshonai didn't know what was truly going on until it was far too late. Venli was implied to have been working with Ullim for a while - even before Gavilar's death, perhaps. So, even if we're stuck with Eshonai flashbacks, I'd still like to see some Venli POVs. That, or what @What's a Seawolf? suggested in the spoiler tags.
  16. Yeah, but it can still change, can't it? IIRC, OB was supposed to be either Szeth's or Eshonai's until late into the writing process, and frankly, I'm really not feeling excited for Eshonai flashbacks. There just doesn't seem to be anything hiding in there, like the mystery of Dalinar's wife, Shallan's parents' death or Kaladin's how-we-got-here. The WoR interludes and OB prologue paint a pretty complete picture for me, while there are so many mysteries surrounding Szeth's how-we-got-here and Shinovar in general that I really want to dig my teeth into those flashbacks (especially since they're already written). Well, I imagine Brandon will find some surprise buried in Eshonai's past, but until then, I'm not super interested in it.
  17. Happy Koloss Head-Munching Day! I'm really happy SA4 is coming out soon (well, doorstopper-soon, which is two say in a year and a half to two years). I wonder who the flashback character for this one will be (please be Szeth, please be Szeth...). Kinda sad about WW4 being pushed back, though, but there's at least some light at the end of the tunnel now, so yay! Going by the description, The Original isn't really my jam, but Death By ??? sounds pretty interesting. And, of course, Nightblood and the Elantris sequel still languishing in the SoonTM Hell. 13 years and counting, in the case of the latter... Winds of Winter's got nothing on that.
  18. In the articles where there are enough comments to split into two pages, I can't switch to the second page using the buttons. Neither page number, next page, nor last page buttons work for me, and typing the number into the "page 1 of 2" field doesn't either. The only thing that does work is directly appending "?page=2" to the URL, and even then, I can't go back to page 1 without doing the same. No such problems when browsing forum pages, though. My browser is Opera 56, if that's important in any way.
  19. Granted. As long as you stay in the town you're currently in, you're the best at anything you try your hand at. Unfortunately, the moment you step out of the city limits, you instantly become horribly unlucky and utterly incapable of anything other than basic human functions. I wish to finally understand Ajax.
  20. Okay, you can give me weird looks, but I have to know: is it possible for a spren and a human to, well, get it on? And would the spren enjoy it? (seriously, this question has been bothering me for a week now) Edit: On a more serious note, here's something that popped into my head: When Shallan and Kaladin are out in the highstorm, they see two stormstriders. When Dalinar is out in the highstorm, there's only one. Is there any connection between the number of stormstriders and the number of observers?
  21. Renarin, I find what's happening with him and Glys to be supremely fascinating, and I love him as a character. Right after him, Dalinar, Kaladin and Lift, in no particular order, as I like all three of them as characters (maybe Dalinar a little more than the other two? I've just finished re-reading Oathbringer, so that's probably why). Put Adolin on 1.5 spot, his lack of Radiant powers be stormed. He's awesome and I want him to become the spren necromancer he's clearly meant to be. I'm kind of on the fence when it come to Jasnah. There are some moments (particularly her POV sections) where I really like her, and then others (let's genocide all the singers!) where I can't stand how smarther-than-thou she's acting (I'm sorry lady, I didn't know having a Plate was a measure of one's importance in the ethical discourse!). As for the one I like the least... Shallan? I was okay with her in WoK, but I despised her in WoR. She struck me as really, really manipulative and callous then. I've started to come around in OB, but I dunno... I'm just not a fan of her, I suppose.
  22. I really liked this, even if I didn't understand a lot of Magic-specific concept (the Entities, the Angels? Are crazy angels a thing in Magic, or is it specific to this story?). Davriel is very Lightsong-y - but that's fine by me, I'd be happy to have more Lightsongs in fantasy (and more accountant demons. Miss Highwater's banter with Davriel was fantastic). The chapter where the villagers get soul-sucked felt kind of hasty, though, as if Brandon was trying to get it out of the way as soon as possible, and the story didn't really click for me until Tacenda assaulted Davriel with the icepick. Is this going to be a series? The Entity's dialogue at the end certainly implies that, and the label on the epub file says "a Davriel Cane adventure", so this kind of suggests to me there'll be more. I'll certainly read more, if Brandon writes it. On a related note, can any Magic-playing Sharders recommend some good Magic novels? I'm left wanting more.
  23. Off the top of my head, have you read Fire's Stone by Tanya Huff? Two of the three main characters are bi guys who are really into each other (though it takes time to develop, as one is really repressed). As for Drehy, I really do hope that we'll get some more screentime for all members of Bridge Four, him included. The small insights in Oathbringer were fun, but I really want more. Actually, what I really, really want is a Drehy interlude showing how he and Skar got out of Kholinar.
  24. Granted, you can now tell exactly what the best thing to say to any given person is just by looking at them. Unfortunately, you can never turn this off. I wish for eidetic memory.
  25. That's a good way to put it. Also, please do get some sleep.
