  1. Depends on your definition of "'permanent" - (Elantris and Stormlight Archive spoilers) Hope that helps
  2. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. Tress Ch 51: Hope that helps
  3. Velocity is one of the few Dean Koontz books I enjoyed (Psychologic Horror) Blurb:
  4. I think the conversation needs to start with some definitions and boundaries. Wikipedia: There there are types of horror - For example, horror can be considered one or more of the following: Body Horror (Dysmorphia) Ghost Story Gothic Fiction Jiangshi Monster (Supernatural Horror) Occult Stories Psychological Horror Splatterpunk (Gore Horror) Survival Horror So, which subsets of horror are you specifically trying to identify or avoid? Hope that helps
  5. Operation Bounce House About half-way through - not bad so far. You can tell the author researched "spoiled-brat Call of Duty troll streamers."
  6. Yeah - MAG got a lot wrong. But, then, it started around WoA and was released with HoA timeframe so they did not have much canon material to work with. At least it's not as bad as the AoL supplement where they "tried" a list of twinborn (that looks more like a committee with zero communication skills) Also - House of Ashes . . . (shudder)
  7. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. I think Steel and Iron need to go to the same person - the movement advantage of having both is significant. Ditto for Brass and Zinc - one person that can soothe and riot would be more effective than splitting those powers (like Breeze and Allrianne). Hope that helps
  8. They are not instant. They burn fast (very fast) and cause other metals to burn at the same rate - but that rate is not "instanteous". We see that the very first time Vin burned Duralumin - multiple heatbeats of Duralumin+Tin occured before her Duralumin and Tin (and Pewter and Bronze) expired. It's even possible to not run out of metals when burning them, if the other metal reserve(s) is|are large enough - WoB: Hope that helps
  9. I have not read the world guide - you quoted I was just trying to draw the comparison that a perpendicularity is not a "Shardpool" (Fan term, not Brandon's term). If Cultivation's perpendicularity encompasses the Horneter Peaks (plural - your quote) then we also already had a previous example of a Single Perpendicularity being comprised of multiple "Wells."
  10. But, they are not multiple perpendicularities - it was one perpendicularity that, in the physical realm, had more than one (and smaller) manifestation. It makes sense for cultivation that, if the perpendicularity is "the Peaks" then each peak is accessing the same perpendicularity.
  11. It's not without precedent. (Mistborn Spoilers) WoBs: Hope that helps
  12. I do not think Tension or Lightweaving could achieve either of those effects. Not at the scale of your example (four indepentantly functioning limbs). Shallan could not Sustantiate a Lightweaving with anything more complex than "pretend to chop" and they cannot react to the world around them. The Primary advantage that Awakening has is that the Type 3 BioChromatic Entity has it's own (borrowed) "Sapience" and can act (and react) independantly to the world around it - Warbrekaer Ch 55: Vivenna did not have to see the arrow for the cloak to catch it - and that level of awareness is not present any Surges we know of so far. Also: We do not know for certain this would be the result. Keep in mind that Vasher and Shashara specifically Intended to create a Type 4 BioChromatic Entity. We have no evidence that a Type 3 Awakening with metal or stone is not possible. In fact, the existence of Kalad's Phantoms heavily implies you can create Type 3s from inorganic material (because it was two separate awakenings - note 1) - so you would have a result more like a normal awakening, but from inorganic material. Note 1: A 50-breath lifeless skeleton and the Type 3 Awakening of the stone scupture in which they were housed. That was the whole point of Peacegiver's treasure, the breath necessary to re-animate the Phantoms with a Type 3 Command, then use the lifeless commands on the skeleton to control them.
  13. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. The OP has been very open about liking Roshar as a setting, but not enjoying the Books during and after Oathbringer - that's why they ask so many Roshar questions and ask for spoilers to answer them. It is like a Reverse Lashing (WaT Spoilers): Hope that helps
  14. Please see Verified unpublished content location thread. 15. Can you please quote that? Because I can find no reference in Ch 12 to injuries (or lack thereof) in any form. I thought you meant your Ch 12 quote from the OP:
  16. Technically, the detail that he shares is that there is no evidence anybody has been harmed in the first seven robbaries (after praying and because he is trying to convince himself to return to the ledgers, like a good House Lord). AoL Ch 3: I understand this bothers you - you have the right to be bothered. But there is so much unknown data, I do not think there is a way to make a clean set of details and deductions that will clear it up for you. Wax is unrelaible, emotionally distraught, and being manipulated by Tillaume in this scene - I think having a clean and linear recounting would be less in-character than the potential character break that seems to bother you. I'm sorry.
  17. We do not know that it wasn't reported - we only know Wax did not mention it directly. He was fairly straight forward at the Ball that his line (to become involved) was murder - not kidnapping or missing guards. When Miles shot Lord Peterus (Ch 5), everything about the case changed for Wax. So him not mentioning a detail in Ch 3 does not, to me, indicate a plot hole - it's Unreliable Narrator (just like every other Cosmere book, so far). Also, consider that months had passed between those twe chapters, things had continued to escalate. Also, please keep in mind that AoL started as a Short Story - so there are some eccentricities derived from how the story grew (rtaher than starting as a complete novel outline, like Brandon usually prefers - AoL Annotations to Ch 5:

  19. To be fair, we don't know what the "public" thinks at all - we know what Wax said the broadsheets were reporting. Yellow journalism is yellow in fiction too: "Underpaid Great House guards missing after robbery" does not sell papers "Mystery train robbery" sells papers Subverting that mystery with conjecture means your readers switch to a different broadsheet next issue - "no evidence of casualties" is a fact they can print while hyping the mystery, though.
  20. That's what is called an Avatar (such as Telsin in Era 2 Mistborn). An avatar may be self-aware on its own (Patji), or have a Vessel (Trell) - but is not diconnected from the Shard's powere the way a Splinter is.
  21. Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter). Also, please consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some useful forum info and tips. Keep in mind that Intent is important, and center-of-self is different from center-of-gravity (and that is not a hard limit, just the way they understand that in era 1; which already has many examples of not being an explicit limitation). We know experienced allomancers can adjust how they use their pushes and pulls (e. g. Kelsier pushing and pulling on opposite ends of the same bar to produce spin). Era 2 spoilers: Tempered glass seems like an odd assumption here (they do break sometimes, and they are padded so without an outside force acting upon them they should not randomly break from a small bead immersed in a liquid). A 1 cm bead is probably way to large to calculate with as well - most vials are just a few flakes in a suspension - 1-2 mm is far more likely here. You also have to account for the vial's velocity away from the body as well as the reverse pull on the bead for the combined force exerted to break the glass so a much higher mass weight moving away, being struck by a very small object on a cruved plane with all of the force of the iron pull in a very small area. Does this scene play to "rule of cool" a bit? Sure. But it is also Brandon's second published work. . . @DrPhysics has a great post on Steelpush Physics WoB: Hope that helps
  22. Coppermind - Time Machine - Select a book, and it will show you the pages of the coppermind from before that book was published. Hope that helps
  23. Except for the whole "We received permission and follow the Guidelines set forth by Team Dragonsteel regarding content and artwork" - Also why we do not reproduce whole sections of book - and summaries are made by the editors (e. g. I wrote most of the White Sand Summary) I am not saying others are wrong for using a tool (each person has the right to decide for themselves) - I am only saying that I cannot, personally, morally justify using a tool based on stolen Intellectual Property.
  24. I'm not certain how long that kind of query takes, but one word in Coppermind finds Thude - with all relevant citations. Hard to think it is easier than that. Actually, with Coppermind autocomplete, you sometimes don't even need to type a full word to find the info you want. . . and since you have access to the Time machine, you can also avoid spoilers for books after the one you are reading. Hope that helps
  25. Understood, thanks for clarifying.
