How about Arcanum Unbounded? Have you read that?
-
I think HWIN meant "who voted for that option," not "who added that as an option." Call it what you will, but there is still a distinct difference between Moash, who did swear actual Military oaths, multiple, to obey his superiors and protect Dalinar and his Family (which includes his nephew Elhokar) and Kaladin saying "he agrees with Graves' plan" in a fit of anger and depression - and immediately regretting it. Then warning Moash before the plan was executed that he wouldn't support it. I admit there was obviously values dissonance involved or Syl's bond would not have been affected. It comes down to this: Kaladin is obviously confused, but trying to understand the moral and ethical factors around protection, revenge, and "justice" Moash, through action and words, clearly shows that nothing and nobody is more important to him than his revenge. And when we do get his viewpoint in Oathbringer he doesn't regret betraying his oaths - only that Bridge Four might find out what he did. OB Ch 43 He doesn't even consider what "friendship" might mean to others and that Kaladin still wouldn't sell him out in that way. I don't want or expect you to change how you think of Moash, your opinions are your own and you are entitled to them. I'm just trying to show you that trying to say that Kal and Moash are the same is empirically incorrect.

Moash turned his Laser Guided Karma at the end of WoR into being a Karma Houdini with Joker Immunity because Kaladin doesn't want to fight him. Unfortunately for him, the Warranty has ended not just because he killed Teft and Phendorana, but because of how. I don't expect Kal to cut him any more slack, should they meet again. Also, RoW Ch 111 shows that it was neither his Connection to Odium, nor Unmade influence that led him to this: All that aside, I think Moash's arc is well conceived and executed. He's just a moral sinkhole who has decided to avoid any responsibility for his own choices and actions through excuses and escapism. Moash never even pretended to care about working to fix the class disparity between light and dark eyes - and only recognizes it as a further excuse for his own revenge plans. Okay, let's explore that: So, once in seven examples he agrees (without an oath) to the plan - because he has just been in his deepest depression up until this point by being jailed and is angry and bitter. Before the events after the dual he explictly was against the action, and explicitly ordered Moash to cease and desist. After he is obviously against the decision emotionally, and trying to convince himself otherwise. And before the confrontation itself, he already told Moash he couldn't be a part of the plans and that it was so wrong that Syl "left" him. Also, most of Kaladin's internal waffling has more to do with trying to protect Moash than honor any implied agreement with his revenge plan. I don't see any broken oath toward Moash here - and even less toward Graves and his "plan."

Very possible that was a consideration in it's construction, as a culteral counter to the influence of the Unmade. Also note, from OB Ch 76 (And the events at Rathalas). Showing a similar "void" aspect of the Thrill.

What we can learn from supressor fabrials.
Treamayne replied to Frustration's topic in Stormlight Archive
So, do you think it might be a type of Enlightened "Reverse Lashing?" By this I mean: The Reverse Lashing is an application of the overlap of Adhesion and Gravitation surges An E-Spren (like Glys) already may access one or both of their order's surges slightly different than an unenlightened sprean So, some interaction between the surges of Illumination and Transformation might be behind Sibling's supression of the Fused - leading to an E-Spren's application of the same "resonance" affecting Radiants Therefore: an Enlightened Liespren that becomes a living fabrial may express this ebility if given the correcf form and Intent. -
Keep in mind that cold and heat injuries are not emperically vast. IRL Human normal is ~37C (98.6F) - but Hypothermia is defined as a core body temperature of 35C (95F) and Heat Stroke is a core body temp of 40C (104F). So the range of normal human temperatures is only 5 degrees C (9 degrees F). Even an evolutionary shift in core body temperature of 1-2 degrees would likely result in a distinct shift of survivable environments. Thanks Also, do we have confirmation that SoScads have a "higher" core body temp? That seems counter-intuitive - a higher core temp would be an adaptation to cold environments (and it would be much harder to get chilled in "normal" weather), while a lower core temp would be an adaptation to hot environments (and make it much easier to get chilled in "normal" weather. For example the Bactrian Camel's natural core body temp of 36.5C allows it to tolerate body temperature fluctuations from 34-40C without experiencing Hypothermia or Heat Stroke.

Something else to think about: HoA Ch 72 Follow the logic chain: Vin is not burning any metals (except the dregs of her Tin) Vin is absorbing/burning the power of Preservation Compounding is based on the entire concept of using the power of Preservation to fuel a Feruchemical power Therefore: Preservation's power can fuel F-Gold healing, even if Allomancy cannot Conclusion - The healing wasn't any single effect of any single Metallic Art

Mare and Clubs are conspicuously absent. Dox gets one mention on the Basin map (Doxonar) - otherwise it is mostly crew from HoA that faced Ruin and/or survived the Catacendre. I also wish Goradel had gotten a nod on the maps or in the lore - talk about the forgotten lynchpin. . .

Sounds like a difference in interpretation. I took "the books would have been better without her" to mean "the current books - minus Shallan;" whereas you took it to mean "rewrite the books without Shallan."
-
I also dislike Shallan, but without her Dalinar and the Alethi Armies die in the middle of the Shattered Plains trying to fulfill the Vengeance Pact (trapped between two storms, still trying to find Narak and without even knowing an Oathgate might be there, much less how to find/open it). Does that make the books better?
-
That is what the Stormfather believes as of that point in Oathbringer; which may or may not be correct overall (unreliable narrator) - especially since Stormfather also admitted to not liking the Heralds of most of that 4000 years (because they broke an oath) and not paying attention to them or what they were doing until after bonding Dalinar and beginning to see both sides of the story. I will say that if a Herald suffered a mundane death (other than what happened to Jezrien), it is probable they would have returned to Braize.

I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time
Treamayne replied to Amira's topic in Stormlight Archive
It'll give you a reason to re-read The Way of Kings after you've gone on and read Mistborn Era 1, Elantris and Warbreaker. A chance to re-experience those things that you may have glossed over or references you missed the first time. Sanderson has said that Stormlight books are plotted as a trilogy (with two smaller climaxes prior to the book's final climax). Note - this is not the same as writing it as a trilogy, since the viewpoints are more interwoven and subplots are more spread out. Also each book is in five parts, not three. Here's the relevant WoB, if you are interested: You will meet Eshonai in the same chapter that bears her name (though her name isn't used on-screen until book two). -
Like any skill, it takes desire to change, hard work, time, and patience. Dalinar may seem like a good father figure in TWoKs; just remember few get it right the first (second, third) time. You will get more of his backstory in book three - Oathbringer.

Welcome to the Forums What book/section are you reading; or have you completed all four novels and both novellas? Where you are in the character's arc can make a huge difference. Depression is difficult - even by proxy. . . I used to like Shallan in TWoK and WoR. Then OB happened and she went from one of my favorite characters to one of my least-favorite (but I still like her better than Lirin). I hope to one day enjoy her sections more, but for now I just limit my exposure to her scenes.

No Worries But wait, there's more. . . Arcanum Unbounded Mistborn Era 1: Mistborn Era 2: Elantris (10th) Warbreaker (includes annotations): PS: Did you want a search of White Sand Prose and Aether of Night as well?

Cognitive shadows and birth defects
Treamayne replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
While not impossible, I don't think that Identity would heal physical wounds, but is probably able to "heal" mental trauma (probably not mental illness that is genetic, as that would be part of the identity). Here's the reference in the coppermind (with WoB link): -
It's pretty well implied that Kalak and Jezrien are still holding their blades when they begin their discussion in the Prologue: Which is further confirmed by Dalinar's vision in Oathbringer (Ch 38) and shows what happened after Kalak and Jezrien both departed:

There's a WoB for that: -
Just some praise for Mistborn (possible spoilers).
Treamayne replied to Lindy Moon's topic in Mistborn
Only in the same continuity. Otherwise, choose what interests you most. First Born (stand alone Short Story) Perfect State (stand alone Short Story) Children of the Nameless (Magic the Gathering Novel) Legion: Reckoners: Cytoverse: Keep in mind the Cosmere can be read in any order, but the internal Chronology matters to some readers in making a decision: Elantris is more Political than action-based (Warbreaker as well, to an extent) Which is why many "reading order" preferenaces place them after Mistborn and The Way of Kings. I usually recommend for Friends: Mistborn Trilogy Warbreaker Elantris Stormlight Archive Then read the others as desired - either after the Current SA books, or in between them -
I just finished BoM and I’m screaming [SPOILERS]
Treamayne replied to Friendly Cremling's topic in Mistborn
Assuming Mistwraiths use a form of sexual reproduction. However, I think it is more likely, due to that whole shifting skeleton thing, that Mistwraiths us a form of asexual reproduction like budding or fission. That said, there is plenty of countryside and a huge section of Roughs we haven't seen and know very little about. . . -
For what it's worth, here are the references from Stormlight Archive. I'll try to search some more if I have time tomorrow (unless somebody else has). I haven't filtered anything except chapter titles and epigraphs on the Shard Mercy, so not all references are the kind you seek. . . but some are. TWoK: WoR: ED No Reference OB: DS: RoW: WaT:

I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time

Words of Brandon: Note: This was from a Q&A before Words of Radiance released, due to story considerations, Dalinar and Szeth's flashbacks swapped places This is the order that confirmed Szeth's flashbacks in Book five. Another Word of Brandon regarding Szeth's viewpoints and book 5 - I've linked it instead of posting it because of the same reason above. It has some minor spoilers for everything you haven't read - though it also explains why Szeth has gotten less screen time before Book 5. -

I'll answer this, but I'll spoiler it because you might not actually want the answer knowing it has spoilers (possibly an idle question)
