Why Singers have such a hard time becoming Radiants-Theory
Treamayne replied to Letryx13's topic in Stormlight Archive
Here's the relevant Song (WoR Ch 32) I took it to mean that prior to the arrival of humans, the only bond between Singers and Spren were the bonds of forms; which are (as far as we know not done with Sapient spren**) not enough to meet the needs of the sapiant Spren. The humans came, then the first Nahel bonds were formed. Then the rift and wars came, but singers never tried to form Nahel bonds the way humans did - this verse was about comparing the Form bond and the Nahel bond, as used by Singers and Humans respectively. Only now, finally, Timbre started trying for a Nahel Bond with a Listener (well.... two). Since Timbre communicates with Rhythms, we don't know if she is gaining Sapiance the same way that, for example, Syl did. We also don't know if Venli's ability to understand is due to the Nahel Bond, Envoy form's abilities, or the combination of both. When we see other Listeners forming bonds in book 5, that should clarify - not to mention Rlain's experience contrasted with Renarin's. This was also foreshadowed in Ch 33's next stanza: **Note: -
I could see Whimsy's system being a more open system that can appear soft. For example: similar to Mortal Magic in The Dresden Files So, could see Whimsy's investiture being like this - some core "rules" but very open to interpretation and belief; causeing it to manifest slightly differently for different people.

I would posit they could all "sense" her, as viewpoints from Kaladin, Adolin, and Dalinar also mention the "wrongness" and gloomy feeling in the tower. As for linking those feelings to the deduction that an Unmade is behid them, I would suspect that it has to do with Connection (like Dalinar and Nerghaoul [the Thrill]) but I don't think a canon "reason" has been released.

fake theory the well of ascension, Sazed and Yoda.
Treamayne replied to Thaidakar the Ghostblood's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Do you mean this quote? WoA Ch 12 What does that have to do with Yoda? It's a Hyperbaton, specifically a derivation of one translation from Aristotle: More specifically: Amazing strength - Subject Did not make - verb Warrior - Object Where the object phrase is pushed forward to give it emphasis. ***** Conversely, Yoda's speech is known for putting forms of "Be" at the end - but more often puts the object before the verb Central verb Ending Verb:- 6 replies

AFAIK, what is happening is this: The Dor fills the cognitive realm of Sel The Cognitive is already location based 1/2 of the Dor is Dominion, which further strengthens the population tied to region connection which means: AonDor is tied to Arelon and Arelish people Dakhor is tied to Fjorden and Fjordell people ChayShen is tied to JinDo and JinDo people Forgery is tied to MaiPon and MaiPon people The Dor is the source of power for all of the above - only the region dictates the form the investiture can be expressed

Here's a WoB saying the same thing: So, you can't become an A-Gold savant burning F-Gold

Moash (Vyre) is a depiction of Nietzsche's quote: As far as the bigotry goes (it's not racism, since lighteyes and darkeyes are the same race - Alethi); its important to note that Moash was not the victim (at least not more than any other darkeyed male), his Grandparents were the victims. He himself is as bigotted, or more so, than the lighteyes he "fights" against. To me, he's even worse, because when he's telling the Singer's that their way is better (or convincing them to be better when he sees them punishing Sah and Khen's group in OB Ch 48) he's essentially saying that he thinks all leaders in humanity are *just like* Alethi Ligheyes (which is already heavily stereotyping). Let's face it - stereotyping is essential to human survival (these red berries killed my friend, so those red berries might be dangerous too); what people need to realize, teach, and espouse is that while sterotypes exist - you should not judge an Individual exclusively on a stereotype. That's what Kaladin has started learning - such as his interactions with the tenners in OB (realizing how similar they are to his previous darkeyed spear squads - and - how they treat Adolin without knowing anything about him because they assume he's a middle-dahn lighteyes and a dandy based on his dress; but Kal is torn between agreeing and sticking up for Adolin then thinks he should feel guilty for thinking about defending a lighteyes). I don't think Moash would allow himself a redemption arc. He's far too selfish to ever allow himself to change that much. . .

and What exactly is the root of this disagreement? I'm not sure I can follow what is in contention - whether or not that scene was really a "duel" that could result in Ruthar's exile?
-
I think this is a false assumption. Do you have any reference that says there is "more" Dor near Elantris than other areas of Sel? The Dor permeates the cognitive for all of Sel. AFAIK the Elantris "Fabrial" only makes AonDor used near it more efficient at pulling the Dor from the Cognitive. So, I could see a time dilation for all of Sel (as opposed to outside the Selish system), but not just near Elantris.

Indications so far are No (which does not preclude you from swallowing both regular Iron and an Ironmind so you have access to both) WoB (partial)

I just want to say, I think Brandon meant for us (the audience) to find the scene distasteful (in varying degrees based on our sensibilities). If I understood the whole context, Jasnah chose this method of dealing with Ruthar because: Jasnah also finds duels like these distasteful She intends to help steer the Alethi culture away from this type of conflict resolution She is using the misogyny against them; because if they don't want to fight a woman, but she has now set a precedent that females *can* duel, then calling for a duel when you might have to fight a woman becomes a worse option She does feel the need to make sure the leaders on the campaign remember she is Radiant first, a Monarch second, and (merely) female somewhere far further down the list Like slavery, just passing laws without trying to impact the national culture won't really solve the issue(s) All that said, I won't say this was my least favorite scene in any Cosmere novel, but it may be my least favorite scene in RoW

Ahh, I can see that as another option I hadn't considered because she had been grabbed from behind and wasn't looking at Kar (except the glance at his healing leg) while burning the metal.

I would guess the Cause/Effect relationship to go the other way around. Since we don't have the canon way that Returned can procreate, I would guess that the "method" is (with Command and Intent) using a piece of the divine breath to have a child. Once the child is born with a portion of divine breath, it would likely be passed down like other sDNA.

First theory post: Siah Aimians… 5th ideal?
Treamayne replied to Russell 9-Fingers's topic in Stormlight Archive
True, with the possible exception that: That said, I agree both ideas have merit. However, I always thought the Siah were refugees/immigrants like the Iriali, Sleepless, and humans. -
That minstral is in a few other places (I think at least once per volume of the graphic novel) if you look around.

Two separate (but possibly related) things: RoW I-1 Dalinar denied her request to let her feel Kal's despair. That was her remembering having been in pain, but she (at this point) doesn't really even remember what drifting and pain felt like, just knows she felt them. However, after having been separated in the tower; then having the loss of Teft piled on top (the first of Bridge Four to be killed in such a fashion after she returned third-oath level sapiance): RoW Ch 102 RoW Ch 106 RoW Ch 107 RoW Ch 108 RoW Ch 114 Maybe I'm reading too much into this series of exchanges, but it seems to me that the fallout from the separation will continue.

I'm reading The Stormlight Archive for the first time
Treamayne replied to Amira's topic in Stormlight Archive
I always just took this to be that Laral started to think of Kal as more than a friend, but he was still oblivious. . . -
They talked about this in Alloy of Law (at least about the Northern Roughs, but it could apply to other regions): AoL Ch 13 So a mine is opened and workers either volunteer or are voluntold (if Miles' rant of criminals being sent to work in the mines is to be believed) to move out there and work the mines - Shanties become villages, become towns (as IRL) and you have a spreading "community" in the roughs centered around the mine. Even if the mine was exhausted and closed, some of the community would likely stay where they have settled and if it lasts long enough you get places like New Seran where a large city grew up to be the "hub" for a hub-and-spoke mining operation in a larger area.

As for Gold Savant; I like the idea of having more control of from which braching point you are seeing an alternate version. There is only one shadow with Gold (two with Malatium) - though the allomancer experiences two identities (who they are and who they could have been) Gold Malatium (Nalatium?)

Except that Syl shows signs of PTSD after the event you mentioned (but, can now kinda-understand Kal's depression) and because it was so close to the end of RoW we don't know what other fall-out the separation will create. Seem's like Veil and Pattern's version of infiltrating the Sons of Honor was a better method. Stay close enough to act normal, but far enough to not be directly tied. Also allows the partial-second Shardblade "summon" to help the Spren know where and how far away their Radiant is from them (since they are still in the PR and sapient). Not that people with Breath enough to sense Spren are that common; neither are Sighted Unkalaki.

For me (inpo): Eshonai riding the Storm Vin and Elend in the field of Marewill Flowers Gaotona and the book Sixth of the Dusk showing his "lesson" plume and stepping into the Merchant Company fortress Silence trying to save William Ann Sebruki's story etc. Double that when we realize that most of his "paranoia" problems are from seeing his cryptic the way Shallan did in the hallways of Kharbranth. If only Shallan had shared that story before or during the trip to Kholinar. . . TWoK Ch 58
