  1. BLUF: You can. . . Here are the references from WoB and Coppermind: The key there is the phrase "They don't yet know how" - so in BoM if the Set had figured this out then W&W would have been in a bit of a pickle.
  2. I don't think those are mutually exclusive - hidden foreshadowing for Father and future foreshadowing for Son. While I do not think Alalan is Radiant, I do find some of his dialog interesting; as well as the fact that he has a Lighteyed name* . However, my 20 Yen says he's a Worldhopper. . . *Similar to TWoK's flashbacks when Kal is whinging about his name being too lighteyed, and preferring Kal because it sounds like a Darkeyed name.
  3. Please do not double-post. If nobody has responded, simply edit your original post to add the new information. Edit is found in the bottom-left corner of the post; next to Multi-quote, Quote and Options If you have read all of the Cosmere novels and are not avoiding spoilers for published materials, please read about Realmatic Theory and Shards; it may help you understand the concepts you are discussing here. Have a great day
  4. Szeth. Please see this thread
  5. First, Basic Lashings were the ones he could not use during RoW - he had access to Full Lashings and some limited access to Reverse Lashings (Ars Arcanum excerpt): Keep in mind, each order is slightly different in how/when some abilities are manifest. For example, Windrunners have access to both surges from the beginning, but a Skybreaker cannot access the surge of Division until after the Third Oath; and in the Interlude Wyndle tells Lift that while she had access to the Surge of Progression with the First Oath, she didn't have Progression's Regrowth ability until after the Second Oath (WoR I-9): While we don't have all of the details yet, the phenomena seem to be linked to the Order Spren's consensual reality. In other words, if the majority of Highspren believe (consciously or subconsciously) that the Surge of Division is too dangerous for Skybreakers below the Third Oath; then the Order of Skybreakers is bound to that belief. Honorspren (and Windrunners) simply don't have those fetters, possibly because so many applications of lashings require Intent (and therefore training) and the Squire system they use is the mechanism for teaching and limiting Surge access (or the lack of such self-limits based on bond and the individuals involved - as we saw with Kaladin and Syl).
  6. The size of the anchor will determine how far away you you can push on it. Also, as shown in Kelsier's FIght with the Inquisitor (M:FE Ch 34), a skilled allomancer can select anchors at the edges or corners of larger objects (allowing the force to be distributed). In this case, consider what happens when a 5 ft Vin tries to push on a coin that is not physically connected to a 12ft stone door. It would likely slide right off, since the spacing can't effectively get a push against the direction of movement at both corners (if lined up to the bottom anchor, the top anchor would be tangential to the plane of movement).
  7. IIRC, the books never actually mentioned a height in feet/inches (just a "very tall eunuch"); but I thought BS said in a WoB that he was "around 7 feet tall," like many eunuchs. I haven't found that WoB again yet, but this is from the Annotations:
  8. Here's the references in CH 52 and 53 of WoA So Sazed clearly undergoes muscular changes with F-Pewter, but needs his Pewter to halp him move his F-Iron body to block the gate (since he is tapping so much) Sazed would not have been a 12 foot tall monster (he should not have gained any height at all as there is not skeletal change with F-Pewter, only muscular). Here's the section in Ch 52 (when combined with the section above): So, if the Koloss that are 10+ feet tall are jumping the wall to clear archers, then the Koloss that came through the gates is < 10 ft. At 7ft Sazed (with a few hundred pounds of F-Pewter muscle) could conceivably be considered "a creature nearly his own size" - especially when it is possible the "lead koloss" was only between 8-9ft.
  9. Many Interludes are worldbuilding. . . but that does not preclude hidden foreshadowing. That was the Axies the Collector interlude IIRC - he's great!
  10. It might depend on which Printing of the book you have (or eBook version), as it was probably something fixed after the first printing. My eBook shows that passage as:
  11. The White Outfit is what indicates the Parshendi sent Szeth (there is a cultural reason). I don't think it's a spoiler to tell you that the second Prologue in The Way of Kings ( as opposed to the First Prologue in the Way of Kings which was a Prologue to the whole Stomlight Archive) showing Szeth kill Gavilar is the Prologue to each of the first five books. Each version is that night from a different character's PoV. Slight Spoilers - hidden in case you want to avoid them: You will get much more detail on this in Oathbringer and Rhythm of War; and a bit more detail in Words of Radiance.
  12. I can imagine an Era 2/3 shop, like a Soothing Parlour, where you stop by, pay your boxings and get "flushed" of metals.
  13. Congrats to both of you. I'll note that it's fairly important to be careful on the Coppermind if you are avoiding spoilers - however if you bookmark/favorite the summary pages it's an easy way to refresh yourself on content when continueing a series that you have been away from for a while. For example, the Summary for The Way of Kings is here When searching the wiki, use "Summary:<title>" to find the summaries if you need them - just be careful using any links on the page as they may lead to spoilers for things you have not read yet. Spoiler policies can be found here. For example, the Coppermind Page for a certain swordmaster from Words of Radiance will have spoilers for things outside of the Stormlight Archive.
  14. Right, but Investiture in the physical realm can also manifest as energy (like the Light in White Sands, or the Dor as Plasma) or as itself. Just because it shares some properties with matter (and matter's three states), doesn't mean it is matter. Of course it can be in the form of matter, but it doesn't have to be in the form of matter. Maybe somebody at a signing or AMA can ask if Gaseous Breath would be affected by wind conditions or a fan? That would give us more data points with which to draw conclusions. WoBs My point is we really don't know what gaseous properties Breath has when manifested on the PR (and which properties it does not have). We may both be right, and we may both be wrong. But thanks for the discussion.
  15. Gaseous investiture, yes. Gaseous matter, not necessarily. After all, if it was a gaseous matter, then when Vivenna waved her hands through it (trying to ward off the Breaths when Lemmex bequethed them) then eddies would have appeared in the gas. That didn't happen; which implies it may be a gas but doen't mean that the gaseous investiture state is also a state of matter (as opposed to the Mists, which are gaseous investiture as a state of matter).
  16. There has been some discussion on this topic in these threads. But the real answer is simply RAFO. We can theorize, but there isn't yet enough information to know for sure.
  17. Kinda, but not really. After all, even though he was the primary "fighter" he was still leading a team of Dabbid, Rlain, Lift and Teft. My 20 yen, based on military experience: Soldiers work as a team to complete an objective (which may or may not involve fighting and killing) Warriors are defined by how they fight - and they fight to win (within whatever moral framework to which they adhere)
  18. And both bodies are described distinctly different when Kelsier sees them in Secret History and when they appear in the physical realm after the death of the Vessel. More specifically: Leras MSH Ch 1-1 HoA Ch 56 Ati MSH Ch 4-4 HoA Ch 82: MSH Ch 6-8
  19. Doubtful. Breath is not a gas, it's a form of Investiture*. As we see in Ch 56, damage to an awakened object does not release breath: Also, this Word of Brandon says: So, it would seem that either: The damage is not enough to destroy the object, so the breath remains there and can be recovered or The object is destroyed and (some or all) breaths are lost Also, breaths are keyed to Identity, so even if they were released they would only be recoverable by the person that awakened the object , except Lifeless where the breath keys to the Lifeless' Identity and would not be recoverable by anyone if the Lifeless were destroyed. *Note: In the Cosmere, rather than just matter and energy, investiture is a third form that is separate and distinct. So Investiture can be converted into matter or energy (and vice versa); but even if some forms of Investiture appear gaseous, they is not a gas (and not even a state of matter until something acts upon it with Intent to convert the investiture into matter).
  20. Before I begin responding, could you please confirm which Mistborn books you have (and have not) read (so as to avoid Spoilers if you haven't read all six novels, the Novella, and both short stories)?
  21. BLUF: AonDor needs the lines to be correct in placement; but width and other characteristics are shown to make a difference in efficacy not ability (Ch 49) and the medium doesn't matter (Ch 7). Could you please elaborate on what version of the book you read? If not English, which translation? I ask mostly because the character you are referencing isn't named "Adonis."** That implies you may have read either a draft version or that some things might be off. Also, note that there were problems with that scene (Ch 61) originally, and it was fixed in the 10th Anniversary edition, which is now the canon version **Note:
  22. Spoilers for the series - Books 2-4 (especially as this question is only tangentially related to the thread):
  23. At both previous times, when drawing on the Mists, Vin was already attempting an Allomantic action; then used the mists to fuel that action. In the HoA Climax, when she first draws the mists (and starts ascending), she is thinking only of the pain and how she is too hurt to defend herself or fight back. IOW: consciously or not, she showed the intent to heal, so the Power of Preservation acted on that Intent. Don't forget, part of Rashek's "healings" were an exaggeration by the Steel Ministry. See WoP: Now, we did see Miles survive having his head mostly shot off, so it is likely the "exaggerations" were for anything that would have disconnected his goldmine from himself (dismemberment, immolation, etc.) Vin was specifically fueling Eland's Allomancy with preservation - a very different thing than accessing the power of Preservation itself. HoA Ch 81: Oh, I agree it absolutely was tied to her process of Ascension. I was only trying to point out that the healing didn't have to be an Allomantic effect since she could have drawn on any power that Preservation could fuel - and Preservation's power can fuel F-Gold. Part of it is probably the quantity of stored healing, but part of it is also familiarity with the powers (and likely the path to Savantism). M:tFE References WoB on Savantism: So, Miles' savantism was likely a part of how his body could instinctively tap gold to heal the headshot.
  24. As Offer said, but to answer your other question, yes you will find out why/when/how each time Kaladin gets the moniker "Stormblessed."
  25. Glad you enjoyed the chapter. . . TWoK Ch 27: This quote really does sum up so much of Kal's arc.
