New Take on Cosmere Movies
Toaster Retribution replied to Khyrindor's topic in General Brandon Discussion
This is very subjective. In some instances (Lord of the Rings and Narnia) I feel like the adaptions are an improvement on the books. GoT has also improved some things but messed up a lot as well, so I still consider the books better, but the show is still good. My general point is that the quality of adaptions is a very subjective issue. As to the OPs question, I think it could work. I can see it being controversial among the fans and Sharders, but it would be doable. We already have White Sand as a comic, so going one step farther and do something like Silence Divine or Dark One as a movie could work. That said, analyzing it for clues would be a lot harder, and the movie can't be hardcore Cosmere, for the sake of general moviegoers. -
We love Death Rattles, and so does Taravangian. They help us see some of the future, and hint at things to come. Which is precisely why I wonder why the Unmade is sending them. Why would Odium give hints about what is to come through his Unmade? Seems storming stupid to me. There has to be something fishy going on here, but what?

@StormblessDave much of the Nightblood discussion has more to do with magical mechanics than his actual character though.

This is true, but speculating is kind of fun, so we do it anyway :-) I also think that the traits we are looking for are the major ones in each character. Kaladin, for example, is all about saving people. That is such a huge part of who he is. He is brave as well, and obedient on occasion. He heals people as well, he can be resolute in some matters, and his men can depend on him. Most characters has a lot of the KR traits in them. We are just looking at the major ones, the ones you can see the most. Which is stuff like obedience in Amaram, foolhardy bravery in Rysn, extreme curiosity in the case of Eshonai, and so on. What we need to do is single out which traits that are more dominant in different characters, and place them in a potential order afterwards. That said, not everyone will become a KR. A lot of people will, but not everyone. I will personally subscribe to maxals Dustbringer theory, but Elhokar becoming Odiums champion isn't by any means farfetched. -

This is actually a pretty interesting choice. For Stormfather, I will present what might be a very contorversial choice. There is nothing wrong with James Earl Jones, but I doubt we want Stormfather to sound like Darth Vader. Instead, I propose Chris Hemsworth. Yup, Chris Hemsworth, Guy has a voice like thunder. I think he'd do wonderfully. -

Was he able to walk on walls in WoK? Didn't he start to master that in WoR? -
Having spren appearing as swords, hammers, forks and general metal would be very cool.

theory [OB] The Bondsmiths Killed Honour
Toaster Retribution replied to BlackYeti's topic in Stormlight Archive
The fact that Stormfather was bondable before the Recreance kind of proves the theory wrong, especially along with the fact that Brandon stated that there were three spren for the Bondsmiths to bond.- 15 replies

I see your points too, and I think we just have different priorities :-) I dont want an anime though. Its not that it would be bad, but more that I have a personal bias against it. Just don't like the art-form much. I would watch it, of course, but I'd prefer a live-action tv-series in the vein of Game of Thrones. -

I'm going to voice some more support for Dustbringer-Elhokar. First off, most people won't see it coming. The Dustbringers are the order which most people are interested in. And no one has ever seen Elhokar as a potential candidate. He is often seen as weak by most readers, but as @maxal points out, the character traits are there, buried beneath fear and anger. Having him turn out to be one of the most badass Radiants would be a great twist which few see coming, which is something Brandon would like. When it comes to abdicating, there is some foreshadowing, as maxal pointed out (Kaladin tells him to do it). I also think that Dalinar could do well as king (he practically is already). If he needs someone for the day-to-day business he can always load it upon Navani, Aladar, Sebarial, etc. It would be a cool twist fitting Elhokars character. I fail to see very many issues with it. -

I agree about Aladar and Roion. Im very interested in seeing where Aladar goes in Oathbringer. Hope to see him as Dalinars right-hand man or something (if Adolin gets punished for Sadeas, Dalinar will need a new guy to trust). As usual, I think that Elhokar and Amaram gets more hate than they deserve. I also see surprisingly little discussion of Shallan, which is a shame. I like her more than Kaladin and Dalinar, to be honest. Pattern is up there too. He is the coolest spren, but nobody talks of him. Also, I really like Graves. He is cool. But I can see why people don't talk of him. There aren't much to discuss yet (fingers crossed for Oathbringer). -

I second what @maxal said. Whitewashing is a real issue, that a lot of people care about. Personally, I'm not as adamant as many others, but I do prefer is characters are cast as the source-material says they are, or at least similar. For example, I put more weight on skin color than eyes in my casting. I am also okay with some changes (I am willing to go caucasian for the Veden). That said, a lot of people will (understandably) feel that skin-color, eyes and nationality should matter. -

@maxal I am in agreement with you about Elhokar. -
I suspected that was going to be the case when I started the thread :-) I honestly feel like those movies are ignored by the Academy though.

Inspired by the now legendary, award-winning five-page thread about overhyped characters, I now introduce to you the Underrated Character thread! Is there any Stormlight characters you think should be discussed more? Who gets more hate than they deserve? Who should be praised more than they are? Discuss!
