  1. I think he meant alternating between Steelrunning and Sliding; the problem with bubbles is you can't move them and you can't make multiple ones and there is a cooldown between dispersing the last one and putting up a new one. You compensate for all of this by Steelrunning. That way you're still very fast but you're using less stored speed.
  2. I posted the corrected Diagram code on the Polish fansite 10 days ago (cause official version is stormed up). Today a person commented that she cracked it. She may be the very first person in the entire country to do it. I feel strangely proud.
  3. Impossible, programming is magic. You're using a set of alien sounding words to force something what you don't understand how it works to produce a desired effect. And sometimes something goes wrong. Gonna creep everybody out? EDIT: I wonder if I could translate the source code of a simple program to latin and then chant, would it sound like spells?
  4. Are you somehow getting the url and just parsing it?
  5. There is even a WoB that mistcloaks varied throughout the whole Empire - common trait were tassels, but the rest was up to the wearer, like for example Hood/hoodless dilemma.
  6. Rothfuss is... NO NOT A BOOK THREE. Rothfuss is kickstarting real-life tak game (the one Kvothe played in Wise Man's Fear): kickstarter beta rules online game Since the kickstarter prices are way, way, way to high for my wallet, I'm thinking of making the pieces myself or finding a way to do it. Maybe chopping jenga pieces?
  7. But there is no additional gain from Feruchemical chromium being paired with steel. Having more luck is not something more beneficial to Allomantic steel than to other Allomantic metals. That's what it means when power is 'distinct' - it doesn't mix with others. It works on its own and while it can be useful, it's not something unique. For example, Feruchemical steel is awesome power and Allomantic zinc / Allomantic brass are also awesome powers. But their combination is not unique, the powers don't lend to each other, they don't complement. However, if you pair Allomantic zinc/ Allomantic brass with Feruchemical aluminium/ fduraluminium, then you have a very good combination (probably, as it's just speculation). ----- On another note, I'd love to see a story about cadmium Compounder. Being able to stay underwater for hours? Awesome!
  8. I believe that anytime sometime says that given two powers "work together", it means that there is some synergy between them (not Compounding) - for example, Crasher combo: Steelpushing is a good ability on its own. Manipulating your own weight can be handy, but it's not as useful, as for example Feruchemical steel. But put those powers together... ridiculously powerful Steelpushing and Skimmer part is also made more useful as Steelpushing lets you jump around at high speeds and being able to alter your weight is a powerful addition to it. On the other hand, Feruchemical chromium doesn't pair so well with any Allomantic ability - it just is a distinct power on its own and doesn't really augment or is augmented by other powers. So its use is basically the same for any Twinborn (apart from double chromium, of course). I hope my explanation helps. --------------------------------------------------- Anyway, most of the Twinborn combos work well with Allomantic pewter. Allomantic pewter is a 'red mage' for Feruchemical steel, Feruchemical pewter, Feruchemical bronze, Feruchemical brass, Feruchemical bendalloy, Feruchemical cadmium and Feruchemical gold. It covers all these powers, so its reasonable that pairing it with any of them will be a good combination.
  9. Alloy Of Law takes place between Stormlight 5 and 6.
  10. The way he fights is based on this specific combo. So they work together, just not so obviously like Allomantic steel/ Feruchemical iron, Allomantic pewter/ Feruchemical gold or whatever. But you're right, Feruchemical chromium is really distinct from other powers.
  11. The way I see it, it's that Roshar is in perpetual cycle of destruction and rebuilding. Scadrial, on the other hand, even with TLR degrading technological development and then maintaining a stalemate for a thousand years has it better than Roshar. The best they achieved (technologically) is right now, because the last time Desolation came it was 4500 years ago. But on the other hand they lost all the magic users and all the magical development (ancient fabrials and such).
  12. How Japanese can be an easy language? Well, little tenses (2 IIRC), logical grammar, little to no inflection and so on... Of course, writing is hard. But the language itself isn't.
  13. I think I got my Weirdness Censor to both make sense and be effective. Yay! EDIT: And now it makes even more sense. And I just realised how to justify Repulsors (basically Coinshot + Lurcher) being able to directly affect other mages (cause normally the limiting factor of telekinesis is it cannot affect magical things). It even makes sense. I need to start writing those things down, I fear that at one point I may start to forget what I already got to work. As for the whole hero/villain thing, I want groups with clashing interests... who don't differ from each other greatly. Not really evil evil villains (however I could use some at some point). I want to both readers and in-universe characters think "It could have been me if SOMETHINGSOMETHING" or "I can totally relate to this; why are they even in conflict? Oh, right, that part is kind of unsettling... still, everybody at least once thought of that."
  14. Unfortunately Reverse Lashing requires constant touch. It's a very limiting factor.
  15. The happiness is when at the same time you: need to go to sleep want to go to sleep can go to sleep My nick is not a coincidence
  16. The problem I see is that Masquearde is kept up - nobody is getting any thanks ever and in order to rule people first Masquerade would have had been dispelled; obviously noone is gonna let that happen (at least... not right now.) I've read the reviews; that may be what I'm looking for. I've seen Watchmen. How big difference is that? Well, maybe I'm phrasing it wrong. I need antagonists who could have been declared evil (villains) if the heroes were truly heroic. But since that's not how it is, neither the antagonists are villains.
  17. Anyway, I recall a WoB that a Shardblade is way more Invested than the Survivor's Spearhead. And Spearhead didn't register in steelsight. Vin could only Push on spikes with duraluminium (and a spike is in turn way less Invested than the Spearhead).
  18. I once got asked whether I'm with the female friend I arrived with. We all laughed and it wasn't awkward. However, there is nothing better than seeing two people leaning towards each other without realizing yet that the other person is doing the same. You can tease the hell out of them without them catching on to the truth... However, as a good friend I can't just tell any of them truth, that is something they have to figure out on their own. But as a good friend I have the duty to hint if they're taking too long and unhealthy. EDIT: How appropriately my rank is "King's Wit"
  19. The problem is there are no such things as "stopping the war" or "we need more land". Everything is on much smaller scope. The problem I see that nobody is truly heroic. Just ordinary people; battle-hardened so much they became Combat Pragmatists and if they know they will reduce collateral damage by shooting the enemy in the back after he visited his ill mother in hospital, they will do it. Their hand won't even flinch; I'm not saying they won't experience moral breakdown later, but ultimately they always know what they did was right. I thought about that too: some mages believe that they have the right to interfere and brainwash politicians, others want to enforce "no intervention" rule. But ultimately I know I won't be able to write politics right, I just couldn't. I have to stick to conflicts between individuals. I though about conflict between "keeping up Masquerade" and "we should be ruling the humans" but I feel it both too weak and too worn out to have people attack each other on sight. The problem is that pretty much everyone goes by "any means necessary". If hero knows that by launching his attack he will destroy the monster, but also few people will be caught in the blast and if he waits any longer the monster will kill more people... with grief he will vaporize those poor bystanders. The problem is nobody is gonna run on being "evil and selfish", unfortunately. I feel I need to explain this better: Heroes are more gray than usual heroes. Villains are lighter than usual heroes. It's like Calamity showed up in our world but without... mental adjustements. If somebody goes mad with power and starts slaughtering people, he's put down. No mercy. 'Heroes' and 'villains' would even cooperate in such cases. I have some force of Chaos which occasionaly spawns monsterlings and both 'good' and 'bad' mages feel the need to exterminate them to protect humans. They don't even disagree on the methods! .... How would you create conflicts to have characters fight, let's say during The Final Empire? There are no different Noble Houses, no House Wars. PoV of nobles who alike hunt skaa Mistings. How do you get them to fight, both on physical level and political level?
  20. I was thinking... How do you create villains? Apart from occasional ancient-god-waking-up, I find it hard to imagine how could a person end up a villain. You see, I'm taking this whole "realistic approach" combined with mixing in tropes. I don't have heroic heroes; I have fairly normal people who try to do something good, because basically everybody wants to do something good (everything goes wrong when some people have conflicting interests or views). But I find it unbelieveable to have a character devoted to doing evil. In order to create a 'villain' I would have to twist his personality or experience that what he deemed good or desirable something other people consider morally wrong. But after a look on how I want to build my world, I find a lack of the things characters would conflict over so strongly to make one side antagonistic. It's so much easier when you have an evil god around like Ruin or Odium...
  21. I think I saw that question already. Hm.
  22. Because we are still unsure if I got Oversleep right. 23. How would you call the feeling of being scared to watch more episodes because you know that there isn't much more left and there aren't gonna be new episodes ever and you're completely hooked and you know the withdrawal will be massive when you finish it? But at the same time you must watch more? It's like being an addict who still has some of the drug left and knows that nobody is producing that anymore. 24. But holding the power of the Well was enough to move planets, raise mountains and so on. Simple burning mists isn't even close to that.
