  1. Unless you pick a time before Aharietam. Tons of well trained Knights Radiant vs... unfortunately we don't know. Feruchemists and little to no Mistings (and weak), but I remember that technology was something about first railroads?
  2. I have no idea how would it work. Sure, you can use quantum encryption between two participants, but how to use that for asymetrical encryption? (I'm not quite sure I'm right about what I just wrote)
  3. Because... Huh. Wait. Why would it? Generally, encryption works because it's easy to multiply two large prime numbers (because there's nothing hard in multiplying) but it's very hard to determine given number's prime factors. Sure, you can easily say that 252=22*32*7, but how about 9382849284927? Basic idea is to pick two large prime numbers, multiply them, use the result of multiplication to encrypt the message. To decrypt the message you need to know what the prime numbers were. I can't recall how being able to find prime numbers would influence finding prime factors, but I'm sure there is a relationship here.
  4. Oh, its been a while since I last read Witcher. But linguistics isn't really my thing.
  5. My favorite method of proving 0,(9) = 1 is x = 0,(9)= 0,99999... 10x = 9,999999... 10x - x = 9,99999... - 0,99999... 9x=9 x=1 Q.E.D. You don't need any fractions to explain this (sometimes it confuses people). What I am still unable to understand is how sum of all natural numbers is -1/12. Again, I know little about zeta function.
  6. Ati's Cognitive Shadow would still be Ruin's Sliver, thus it would have effects on his personality. However, he would be back to his original personality but with added "Ruinness" (Ruinnity? Eh...).
  7. I am supposed to be a programmer. Why do I struggle so much even with installing Java and IDE? That's like, my fourth or fifth time installing it and every time something different goes wrong. Do I really bear an anti-technology curse? I'm gonna run with being an unitiated wizard whose powerful aura makes technology malfunction. Yeah. That's what I'll be telling them. "I'm sorry, m'am, but our server crashed despite my best efforts. It may be cursed."
  8. I vaguely remember posting a similar question in this topic. I'll go look for it.
  9. @The Honor Spren, travelling between worlds is quite common. For example, Pendragon books.
  10. Hm, didn't we already discuss it somewhere?
  11. Voidus, where are you getting that Scadrians are two times stronger than Rosharans? If you're thinking of gravity, Rosharan is 0.7g so Scadrians are 1.43 times stronger. That's less than one and half, not to mention "nearly double". As for the warhammer, it took two strong men to barely lift it. Dalinar can easily swing it with one hand. Please take note of the difference. If he could barely lift it, then he would be as strong as two men. If he could barely lift it with one arm, he would be as strong as four men. If he can easily swing it around for hours, fighting... I'd say 7-8 times stronger. As for the Steelrunners, it would not be as easy as you described. Sharbearers are easily faster than regular mortals. For Steelrunner to run in and stab it would require serious overtapping (as Standard Tapping Rate for steel is normally quite low, let's be generous and say 40%), so tapping above 1.4 would mean loss of the charge. I'm both unqualified and sleepy, so I won't do calculations how fast Steelrunner has to move. Maybe tomorrow.
  12. @Kaymyth, I like it a lot, truly creative. I feel like Cosmere may be taking a toll on my ideas. You see, recently I was reminded of Yellowstone supervolcano and I had an idea about lava mage trying to stop the eruption. It was already happening, so (s)he tried to absorb all the lava, but in the process the energy overload destroyed his/her human form, transforming to an energy being. As it kept absorbing lava it reached godlike levels of power... and after that it heard a voice saying "THIS POSITION IS TAKEN" which started transforming the mage back into human. Turns out the voice was a godlike entity (I'm thinking about Hephaestus/Vulcan here) who gave the mage his mark and sent back to normal plane of existence. This event draw attention of other 'gods' who started to come back from what they were doing and turned their attention to Earth once more. And I just realized that I basically rewrote Ascension. Complete with Shards and whatnot. The worst part is I did all of that subconsciously On another note, I've watched World War Z. The first half is pretty decent, the second one is stupid.
  13. The other way you can look at it that Preservation's power starts flowing into you to preserve your life - that mechanism is known as Snapping. Allomancy is triggered as self-preservation instinct.
  14. It seems we have a new trend on the forum. It started with Roshar/Scadrial war, then Shardplate against bullets, then whether Shardplate is less resistant to Sharblades than regular weapons... it's hard to keep track on all of it. And of course Pewterarm vs Shardbearer: who is harder, better, faster, stronger...
  15. Well, everything is better with a Crasher After the first time this technique is used. After that all Sharbearers know to hold on their Shardblades tightly.
  16. The thing is, simply wearing armor doesn't magically make you immune to anything... If you bash your head against a wall, wearing a helmet or not, you're gonna feel it. Armor doesn't protect against such damage. (Like you see with Iron Man being thrown through a tree, breaking the tree, Tony is fine. That's not how it works.) Now, Shardplate grant enhancements. Renarin should have snapped his neack, cracked his skull or at least have concussion. Yeah, that's because we totally know whether Leeching work on Radiants, infused gems... and even if it did, we would still don't know whether it would work on Shardplate. And for the nicroburst coinshot combo, that's works like once, because after that you need to replenish metals. And both Coinshot and Nicro are sent flying away while Shardbearer has only his Blade knocked away, which he can resummon. And of course Shardbearer is way more durable than a Thug - remember how high were the rocks Sharbearers can jump off? One punch to the face from a Shardbearer and Szeth is half dead (so imagine what would it do to a Thug), while Shardplate can withstand multiple hits made by Shardbearers wielding warhammers (and mind those warhammers are made for Shardbearers specifically - not your regular warhammers).
  17. Father Homunculus, is that you?
  18. As far as I remember, the cancerogenic qualities of cigarettes come from the Mendeleyev table that it's in. Asbestos, that kind of stuff. But I remember nothing about nicotine being cancerogenic. And that would be where most of ecigarettes advantages come from, from NOT having all these harmful elements regular smokes have.
  19. Let's see a pewterarm jump down into a chasm and survive.
  20. I remember Renarin in Shardplate jumping off the roof and hitting ground with head down without any injury or even being stunned. Kelsier burning pewter was able to endure hits to arm and side, but he felt a lot of pain and later remarked that without burning pewter he would have fainted from pain long ago. That's quite a difference. Does somebody remember anything about the weight they can lift? BTW, Dalinar's warhammer was so heavy that two men barely could lift it. And he could wield it with one hand. There's a huge difference.
  21. If the Shardbearer is in close combat range, all Pewterarms are already dead. Do I need to remind you how long it took Helaran to kill all of the Kaladin's men who were attacking him? Why Parshendi were able to be any threat to Shardbearers is because warform grants strenght (they were jumping chasms after all) and there was a lot of them. I know you want to point out we can make it work with enough Pewterarms, but remember that entire Parshendi army consisted of warforms. If we try to send enough Pewterarms to kill Shardbearers in close combat, we're gonna run out of Pewterarms fast. And even if Scadrians kill a Shardbearer and take his Shards, that won't do them much good. The moment they send a Shardbearer, Alethi respond with their own Shardbearer and any trained Shardbearer will easily defeat somebody without any training with regular sword, not to mention a Shardblade. Scadrians wouldn't know how to properly wield a blade, for them time of swords passed away long ago.
  22. I'm getting confused about internal enhancements metals here... What are the correct spellings?
  23. Could a Radiant Duraluminum Ferring increase his connection to the spren? Could he summon the spren in the form of the Shardblade even without enough progress with the Ideals (like just after saying the First Ideal he taps Connection. Or even without having spoken any Oaths)?
