The Official Thread of Relationships
Oversleep replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I recon there is no way you could avoid her physically? Change rooms so you would limit the exposure? Destroying a crush is already hard without the other person being constantly nearby, I can tell you. And I don't see another way but to seal off that feeling and dump it in volcano. It will be hard, it will be painful, but there is no other way if you don't want to go insane. Also personal experience. -
New update: Surge of Abrasion, Feruchemical steel Moving very fast and controlling friction? That's, like, seriously overpowered. I mean, if you can turn off friction of your whole body, you will continue to move as long as you have enough Stormlight - all that matters is initial speed and with Feruchemical speed that can be very, very high. Also, my previous original idea which I added in previous update was: Lightweaver, Allomantic copper, Feruchemical copper Lightweavers have two memories of an event: a normal memory and a Memory (if they made one). With Copper Compounding they could have more Memories of the same event to use more than once. Also, Allomantic copper would hide their Lightweaving from Investiture sensors, making them ultimate ninjas. Or they could just Lightweave themselves and not worry about any sensor detecting the illusion.

I want to do that one day. Right now it's scheduled for the con next year. My dream is to have a mistcloak by then. I'm not sure I'll ever make it, but...

But leaving normal eyes does not remove the advantage of steelsight. They could use both sights and draw from advantages of both, while many of the disadvantages are cancelled. They could switch between them. Flashbomb? Close eyes, navigate by steelsight. Metal dust? Use normal eyes. I could imagine that Inquisitors would be forced to wear a blindfold for a year, non-stop to develop a similarly powerful steelsight.

Can gold healing reconstruct things that are not your body?
Oversleep replied to king of nowhere's topic in Mistborn
Everyone knows that alcohol is in fact poison. Not very deadly, not really damaging, a very fun to use even, but a poison nontheless. So healing counteracts the poisoning it creates. -
People of Scadrial Dangerously Behind the Times?
Oversleep replied to Radiant Returned's topic in Mistborn
A WoB about classic Scadrial (not sure about the term. Try searching for before Deepness or something like that). There was this library which was hidden (one of the Hoed revealed it). The one with the more basic level books. Okay, I'm really pulling out of this thread so you can discuss properly without looking out for me not to get spoiled. So I have request: don't tag me here more, and if you want to reply to something I said, PM me. If you can, try avoiding quoting me as I get notifications for being quoted See you when I read SH! -
It is. (the female term: "Cyruliczka"). And truth be told, it sounds quite awesome used in that context.

But is a little more intimidation worth sacrificing one of the most basic senses? I think not. With normal eyes they cannot be blinded by throwing metal dust at them. Also, normal sight has a greater range than steelsight.

I suggest to keep the password consistent. "17Shard" seems pretty easy to remember.

FB suggested a fanpage I'd might like. I checked it, I see it's nothing that fits my tastes (it was a fanpage for book lovers, but it's one of those that there are Vampire Diares, Divergent and things like that fans). But before I closed the tab I noticed something: they posted a screenshot of a FB post which was brilliant parody of those "pokemon go are bad and making people into zombies, how about you actually go outside and meet people and where is this world going" posts but with books replacing the smartphones. At the end, in the screenshot the OP even included a line with greetings for people ranting about Pokemon GO... and, at the fanpage that was for people reading books... ... ...people went full holy rage about somebody insulting books and none of the people commenting noticed that it's a satire. I laughed very, very hard Sweet, sweet irony.

If someone is interested, here is a full picture of Vasher which is used as cover for Polish edition of Warbreaker: EDIT: I just remembered what I hoped for to be on Warbreaker cover - the effect of Breath aura on colors. Warbreaker could do very well in some graphic medium (graphic novel/film/game...). Well, if Wayne is usually depicted with a shotgun, I can't complain much, can I?

Why? Anyway, knowing that Adonalsium created some spren on Roshar it's possible they were always Invested, but we have no proofs.

People of Scadrial Dangerously Behind the Times?
Oversleep replied to Radiant Returned's topic in Mistborn
I already know a ton of spoilers from SH Unfortunately. (I think I'll buy the ebook since in Poland it was pushed from November to January and I already know too much from SH) I'm really curious about Elantris sequel to know what level of advancement Elantrians are on. Reod lasted 10 years, that's not much... they still have the libraries but IIRC some of the Elantrians died and some might have gone insane, but I hope they'll be alright generally. I really want some advanced magic from Realmatically aware users. (Ire doesn't count) -
People of Scadrial Dangerously Behind the Times?
Oversleep replied to Radiant Returned's topic in Mistborn
Well, that's what Scadrial gets for having such two Shards - one is hell bent on destructing the world and the other is opposed to any change. Before Deepness they were pretty advanced (they had at least trains IIRC) but then Deepness came, world almost ended and then Rashek conquered most of the Northern hemisphere, destroying most of the advancements and repressing any technological growth. Then the world almost ended again and... well, there is a whole thread about whether advancements since Catacendre were fast or not. So Scadrial lost at least a 1000 years (or more, as they had to start from scratch after Catacendre) of advancement. Roshar was multiple (vorinism says there were 100 Desolations but we don't know whether it's accurate) times pushed down to stone age (or even more) with Desolations... and Desolations killed 90% of population. Yikes. I can't imagine how far they would been have advanced by now if there was no Odium. Now I'm getting the hell out of here as I just realized that this is Secret History subforum and I haven't read that yet. -
Knights Radiant linked to Heralds
Oversleep replied to Assassin in Burgundy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Or just power of authorithy - Heralds were regarded as divine beings, the emissaries of the Almighty, the leaders and protectors of mankind. Anyway they had at that point more battle experience (Desolations) than any Radiant (what could have been life expectancy with stone/bronze level tech and probably they had a lot less gems providing Stormlight than in current era?), so there is that. Arguments could be made that since Honorblades where made specifically for the Heralds their Stormlight efficiency could have been better, but I don't like striding into speculation without any proof. Anyway, my take on that Ishar epigraph is that that's when the Surgebinders were organized into Orders, with hierarchy, chain of command and so on. It's... it's like the difference between scattered superheroes and foundation of Justice League. Things start to get coordinated; no more Surgebinders fighting between themselves, they are sent where they are needed and things like that. Not to mention that they would start passing experience between generations and teach new, fresh Surgebinders. That would help a lot. -
I like Warbreaker the most. I know that arguments can be made that Hrathen was really important in Elantris, but... I expected something different, perhaps Sarene or an Elantrian Raoden. No. Wait. I'd really like a fallen Elantrian. I wonder how would Broniek (cover artist) picture what's basically a zombie. Secret History... It's nice, but I really like the original one. Nothing beats that: And there's this fact that Kelsier's mistcloak was hoodless, IIRC.

Knights Radiant linked to Heralds
Oversleep replied to Assassin in Burgundy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'd rather say that he meant killing them all - with thousands of years of battle experience Heralds would slaughter the Radiants like sheep. They were not. In this very topic there was a WoB quoted on that: -
You Know You're Addicted To 17th Shard When...
Oversleep replied to Silverblade5's topic in General Discussion
When more than 90% of tabs opened are 17thShard. -
I'd attribute that to them having so many spikes - their souls become unstable, hence the need for linchpin spike which holds it together. That's why removal of the back spike was lethal. Apart from that, removal of some spikes is lethal and some are not; Brandon compared it to being shot at different body parts. Removal of the spikes in the head reverts the transformation which made the brain wrap around the spikes; I suspect that removal of the spike through heart would also be lethal.

Did he even create new Inquisitors or just kept adding new powers to the already existing ones?

You know what? Nothing made me question so much stuff as trying to sum up the things we know about cosmere (I'm currently writing an article about Realmatics and Investiture). It's like that: I write one sentence. Then I start to wonder whether it's true or it's a factoid or generally approved theory. I check the internet. I find little. I start to question. I dig more. I ask on the forum. I watch the discussion and if I'm lucky I have an answer. If it gets worse I'm gonna start questioning whether there are really only three Realms or whether Hoid actually exists (cause maybe we haven't seen him and what we have seen is actually programmed Lightweaving projection, sent by the real Hoid?). Anyway, a great way to find so much questions to ask Brandon which I have zero options to do Hm... programmed Lightweaving projection... that could be a thing. EDIT: Hm, my post comes off as complaining. Not my intention. It's just that I find so many things I thought of as "surely true" and now my convictions are not so sure.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Oversleep replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
That would require a Soulcaster ardent in the conspiracy and they are well protected. Because from what I've read it seems that they Soulcast huge amounts of food which is then given to the cooks. But if we got Shallan to impersonate a cook and getting tangled up in events and actually being required to make a cake... -
Why did Inquisitors have spikes driven through their eyes in the first place? I mean, there surely were other bindpoints to use so what's the point in depraving them of one of the most basic senses? In FE Vin blinded the Inquisitor by throwing a handful of metal dust and it wouldn't work if they kept their eyes. Did TLR make that decision to add another weak point?

Knights Radiant linked to Heralds
Oversleep replied to Assassin in Burgundy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Finally we know for sure that Ishar had nothing to do with that. Could you provide the source, so I can link it when somebody brings up Ishar? -
I'm not sure about that - I am under impression that Feruchemical and Allomantical spikes can go pretty much anywhere, as they don't twist the recipient as much as human attributes spikes. And even if there is some restriction, I have hard time believing that the eyes were the last free bindpoints.
